One of the "forgotten" Mario games

[THIS GAME REQUIRES THE SUPER SCOPE 6.]

In mid-late 1992, to go along with its new Super Nintendo gaming console, Nintendo created a next-generation equivalent of its Zapper light gun to be used on the system - the Super Scope 6. Unfortunately, this concept bombed and was quickly forgotten by Nintendo fans. Surprisingly, quite a few games were made for it, including a Mario title! Read on for my review of Yoshi's Safari.

PROS:
-This game is easy to learn, so you can get into it right away.
-The locales are bright and nicely colored, with good Mode Seven graphics and minimal pixelation.
-The Koopalings, some of the most overlooked characters in the Mario universe, appear in this game as stage bosses.
-Some stages contain alternative routes.

CONS:
-The challenge is minimal. Most hardcore gamers will cruise through it in no time at all.
-No way to save your progress.
-It's a short game.
-The turbo/rapid fire action of the Super Scope 6 makes the game too easy.
-The game is redundant. Most stages follow the exact same themes.
-Having to jump in some places is stupid. This kind of thing doesn't belong in a Super Scope 6 title.

OVERALL:
Overall this isn't a bad game by any means, but there are better games out there that make usage of the Super Scope 6. The only people I can really recommend this game to are younger players and Mario universe die-hards. This game isn't bad, but it's certainly not a great one either.

Best Super Scope Game *MAYBE*

This ties with Battle Clash for me... it is a must have for the Super Scope owner.

Great, another shooter, *sigh*

I have never played this game, but I remember its existance.

It was one of the few games on the Super Nintendo that required the use of the Super Scope. As far as I knew, it may have been the only game. In fact, I think it came WITH the Super Scope.

I personally think that the use of a shooting mechanism died with the NES, so I wouldn't even bother with this game.

Looks Good!

Yoshi's Safari is not exactly the greatest light-gun shooter ever made, but it offers a nice variety of fun to keep you entertained, and it gives you a reason to purchase the Super Scope Gun. The story is about Mario and Yoshi going out on a quest to save Jewelry Land, its two rulers Prince Pine and King Fret, and and retrieve 12 gems under orders from Princess Peach (Holy crap! you don't have to save Peach for once!). So you shoot your way through ten stages of on-rails arcade shooting, destroy familiar enemies like the Koopas, Hammer Bros., and more in familiar Super Mario World-style levels all in the hopes of defeating Bowser (Surprise!) and bringing peace back to the land (Yawn...). The Scope Gun works well with this game and never really feels awkward to shoot. The levels are nicely designed, but the graphics don't seem to have the bright colorful flare of the old 16-bit Mario games. The gun feels responsive and reliable, but while your gun is unlimited in ammo, you have to wait for it to recharge to full capacity to get the best shooting results. Unfortunately, the flaws that cripple this game are its stupidly easy levels and the game is far too short (In my first time playing it, I completed it in just over a half hour and died a grand total of two times). But, if you're a more casual gamer this game will suit you because it's not hard and it's actually quite fun and simple. This may not be Yoshi's best game but its fun nonetheless.
