some useful advice

This is an excellent game once you get used to the moves, but the characters stats are not very generous, it is easy to get worn down to little health by many monsters when you make one or two mistakes. This is trivial to fix however if you go into the Stats folder in the Severance directory and alter the CharData.py file with notepad (make a backup first!). Then you can bolster defences and health and have endless stamina in fights. However be warned that utterly invulnerable characters are actually quite boring to play, there needs to be some risk!

great game!!

Blade of Darkness looked set to achieve new heights in the fantasy/action genre. I must say I'm a little dissapointed. Although it excels in various departments,( the lighting and use of shaddows is quite frankly exceptional, and adds to the very creepy and atmospheric feel of the game) it is let down in some critical areas. Despite the importance of great graphics, it is gameplay and originality which makes a great game and Blade of Darkness has nothing we haven't seen in a dozen other action/adventure games. Climbing up walls and jumping over ledges may have been revolutionary before a certain Ms Croft arrived on the scene, but now it just seems dated. In fairness maybe I'm being a little harsh on the game, as I can't honestly say I didn't enjoy hacking the enemy into numerous pieces and duelling against the very good AI. I was just expecting the first true classic action game of the century and what I got was another fairly decent one to add to my collection.

not perfect, but great.

Well, to begin, I must say I play more console games than PC games, so my experience in PC games is not really big.

As most others agree, the visuals are real good, shadows, monsters, everything is pretty good. The control is good, not very good or great, just good. It has a lock-on target similar to the Z-targeting Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time , which I find a very good feature. the problems I find, are that, for one, you can't walk sideways unless you are using the lock-on on some enemy. The steps the character takes are a to long, making you fall into pit's quite often, an analog joystick would really help, in my opinion. Sometimes, I don't know why it happens, maybe it's my fault, when you press back, the character either tries to atack or does some weird movement, and when there are a fewbadies in front, you get REALLY hurt. Other than that, the game is very good, I don't regret getting it and if you like exciting and challenging melee combat, this game is for you.

this was a great game

The requirements of this game say you need a Pentium II (I have a Celeron). I have played other games on my computer with the same requirements without problems (Diablo II, High Heat Baseball, Everquest). But this game behaved on my machine as if it didn't know quite where to put the graphics. The game installed without a problem, but when I tried to run it, what I got was very blocky stuff, with dim colors and fuzzy lines, and could not tell the floor, from a pit, from stairs, from my character, because the color and graphics were so bad (and this was in the beginning tutorial so it should have been easy). Unfortunately, my "graphics card" is a built-in chipset 810 from Intel so I wasn't able to install a higher graphics card (which can be done but requires a lot of complicated adjustments on my IBM Aptiva 2270). When I played this game on a more powerful computer, however, it worked just fine and was as fun to play as all the other reviews said. So a warning to all who buy this game...do NOT try to install or play it without a higher-end graphics card and pentium II or greater processor...the system requirements listed by the manufacturer are absolutely ESSENTIAL to running this game, unlike some games where a Celeron and built-in graphics card may function as well as a Pentium II....won't work for this game.

Suprisingly good impulse buy

I was'nt expecting much, after playing "Rune", the last 3rd person view D&D type action game that I bought, but this game is actually fun to play. Like "Oni", this game allows your character to learn and use different moves to take out your enemies. Also, Blade of Darkness lets you choose different characters to play: A Barbarian, an Amazon, a Knight and a Dwarf. Each character has different strengths and there are a wide variety of weapons at your disposal.

The game engine is pretty impressive as well, the lighting effects are really interesting. The game itself is not too impossible nor is it too easy. The Save Game feature also keeps the game from being too frustrating.

I would highly recommend this game to D&D fans as well as fans of action games.
