Die by the Sword.. No :(. prt 1

Many years ago I played a cool Demo called Die by the Sword. It had an awesome interface where your mouse would control your right arm. Which mean in order to swing your sword you would have to swing the mouse. It was very accurate. I remeber gettign caught up in a leg snare and having to swing it up towards the ceiling to cut the rope. Well I few times I was off and cut my own leg off.

About 3 years ago I bought this game because it was rumoured to be similiar to Die By the Sword. But I returned the game because my computer then was a bit to slow and I didn't like the frame rate for the level of graphics I wanted. But I bult a new computer and asked for the game for Xmas.

So now the game runs smooth and has very nice graphics. A little dated but very crisp. No complaints with the sound either. Mood music is very affective.

But my dissapointment is that the mouse interface is removed and its down by pressing a direction key and attack. Sad.
Nonethless the battles are still won by skill not button mashing, which saves this game some stars.

A huge variety of weapons to use makes it very entertaining. Plus as people said before, the enviroment is very interactive. Beat someone up with a chair, an arm, anything you can pick up.

A careless overlook though is when you swing a club it temporary turns into a sword through the swing.. Well that sucks.. It doesn't cut like a sword though, thank goodness.

Anyway after I get more fight experience and become more skilled in the art of combat I will write the second part and see if my disapointment for the mouse interface is overcome. Don't get my wrong you can still accurately cut off an arm or leg, but never as accurate as the mouse control.

Anyway for now its a 3. Stay tooned for part 2.

Freakin Loved it

Blade of Darkness is for a person who likes to just come up to a creature, look it in the face, step back while the creature gets all emotional and blood thirsty, take the sword from his/her back and start taking the creature apart piece by piece. I've been playing this game on and off since it came out. Its 2007 now lol and I just finally finished it, no cheats just simple plain combat.

Every single character has his/her unique fighting style that's totally different from each other.

Barbarian: he is 7 foot tall and loves to take advantage of this. He's weapon of preference are two handed swords and axes. Due to his strength he can artfully go for any piece of bloody blow he wants with a weapon so heavy that Amazon could only lift it of the ground just to drop it back down as she would find it too heavy to use. The games engine will let U the player choose exactly what kind of swing u want to perform and exactly where to hit the enemy. lol I love walking up to an orc, throw at him previously chopped of head of his buddy, let him attack me, step to the side as he is swinging at me all angry , take my weapon from my back and let his head, arm or leg fall on the ground under carefully aimed swing of my sword. Then while the blood is pouring, watch him slowly drop on the ground and die. Yes it's that realistic, the only thing u cant feel is the smell of bloody vapor of his body, which might not be a bed thing after all lol.

Amazon on the other hand relies heavily on her speed and lightness. Since her strength is no mach for a Barbarian which u can easily notice watching them climb over walls, her weapons and fighting style is totally different. She uses a lot of body flips (back flips, side flips) to move around her enemies. Her speed is no match for an ordinary orc, she could literally dance circles around them and hit them piece by piece in different spots on their body letting them suffer till they drop. Her weapon of choice is Boo and spears. She always reminds me of a hardcore version of a tomb rider stuck in time with no guns and lots of hand to hand fighting skills. Yes she is hot.

The Knight is a very well, over all trained fighter. He specializes in one handed swords and shields. His body movement is slower than Amazons (due to her being so light) and Barbarians,(I guess due to Barbarians height advantage and light armor he wears). Knight therefore must find a way to survive fighting at slower step pace and he does. He uses shields which do break after couple of hits but are strong enough to carry him through the fight. Although every character can use shields he is defiantly the best at it. For example: when he is being shoot at from far by an orc with a bow, he can advance at them while covering his body with a shield, try same strategy with Barbarian and he will be walking around with an arrow stuck in his arm or his leg. Or for example in a tight corridor the Knight can shield himself while being pinned to the wall from the blows of an enemy and fight back as the enemy leaves the openings in his guard. Just pray ur shield wont break. LOL

Fighting combos once u masters them are beautiful to watch, using different cameras u can play with. Depending on the weapon u picked up, you can do some Hollywood style fighting sequences. For example: using one upper level sword you can engage the enemy; fight blow for blow and as the enemy's life is decreasing position your body avoiding the enemy's swing, and then rotate 180 degrees and submerge ur sword in ur enemy's belly dropping him on his knees to let him die slowly right behind your back and at your feet. Once, which was a total luck and believe me when I tell you, it does not happen often, I completely surprised two orcs and as they were turning around to stare at me I send their both heads flying under a single swing of my barbarian sword. Their bodies still remained standing for few seconds with blood gashing out from their beheaded necks then suddenly dropped like two pieces of slaughtered meat. Lol make sure u enable the gore option before u play.

The visuals of this game are stunning, imagine being stuck in medieval time somewhere between Egyptian, Aztec, Viking, Kings Arthur's and other unknown but familiar Lord of the Rings reality. You come out of a cave and all u see is a tiny few feet wide path high in the mountains. U hear the wind and see the sand being blown of the ground few feet in front of you as u walk the unknown land in search of a lost temple. Its all quiet u look around and then u see two orcs spotted u from far away. Time to spill some blood again, once they get to you, lol u see them running . Oh man and they don't have any idea of how good of a warrior u are. Should u kill them quick or play around with them to get them little angry before u leave them mutilated. Lol I don't think ill ever stop playing this game. I might leave it for 7 or 8 months then install it back on and get hooked again. It happens every year. And yes it does run on Windows XP and since my hardware is now way over what even max requirements the graphics, game play speed and sound are just stunning. Yep it can still keep up with today's games.
