Judging from the screenshots...

...How can we not give this a 5-stars? This has gotta be the coolest RTS. Each game Westwood released is a perfected version of the previous, who cares about innovation when we have a game with gorgeous graphics and refined gameplay? For those who biased against Westwood, even warcraftiii.net said it absolutely pleases.

a good game

This game is very good. it may be impossibble to beat though. You have to capture all the territories of a mjority of the planet and capture the planet. It is like commmand and conquer but you must make you own alliances,(and lose them)defend territories, make sure you don't retreat or forfeit to much or you will be executed. It is slightly corny that some of the charecters from the movie/book are in this with different names. overall this is a very good 3-d strategy game

Missing something

Don't let the title fool you. Yes, I liked this game. It just seemed like it was missing something. It doesn't have a very good story to go with it. Also, the battles seem somehow detatched. No real emotion to them. Before, you seemed to be a part of it. Now you can scroll out to see more of the battlefield, but it's more like scrolling away from drama. I just didn't feel like part of the game anymore.

Would I still buy it again? Yes. I still love all of these types of games. The graphics are great, but I am usually looking at the map from so high up just so I can see the battlefield, that I don't really get the benift of them. Could have used some more types of units. You play on the same maps again and again. That gets a little annoying. I can't wait until more come out.

Emperor is an engaging 3d RTS despite major flaws

Emperor: Battle for Dune is Westwoods first 3d RTS, and the sequel to the revolutionary Dune II. Emperor has both excellent graphics, and an engaging storyline, but it still feel somewhat derivative of its predecessor. There are three major campaigns pitting the noble Atriedes, sinnister Harkonen, and devious Ordos against each other. The campaigns are simple, and at times frustrating and repetitive, but the game stays true to it's legacy, with it's simple gameplay and excellent graphics. Emperor is packaged with high-quality multiplayer as well.

Primo Game

This game rocks. I love the detail available as well as the ability to do many different things within the gane. My only negative comment might be that on a standard PC the game is sometimes a bit choppy speedwise. Aside from that I heartily recommend this game.

Great Graphics, Low Strategy

It is a great game with wonderful graphics, but it takes a very, VERY monsterous system to run at full strength.....On my Pentium 4 2.5 Gz with a 64 mb video card it still has some lag problems on medium to low resolution......but it still looks great nonetheless....and this game also misses the point on strategy....not much strategy....build up forces and send em in and hope you end up with the bigger army...... The story is pretty messed up to, especially if you are huge fan of dune such as I... It feels kind of strange defeated the God Emperor with the Atreides army..(sorry, that was kind of a spoilier)....but if you can get it for the 19.99-25.00 range, then get it and pray you have a great video card and comp to support it!

Beautiful Update

Okay before we get started, if you are looking for something new..look somewhere else. All window dressing aside this game is pretty much the same as Dune 2000. There are some new units, which are given to you at random points in the game. And the more advanced units like the Ornithopters are given to you early on. The game looks beautiful, the 3d effects are marvelous. On slower processors though, the game tends to start "chugging" when you begin to put alot of troops into play. Something I never noticed on the prequel. On the plus side this game starts as a sequel to Dune 2000, giving a reason for the update. If you enjoyed 2000 and are looking for more play in the same vein. Dont hesitate to pick it up. If you are looking for something new...pass this one by.

A Wonderful game except.....

Emperor Battle for Dune is a wonderful game except the steep system requirements and the extremely laggy online play. If you are famaliar with the Dune Universe than this is a must have, if you are a fan of 3d rts games, then this is a must have. If you have a 56k or less modem try to avoid online play. The campaigns are very in depth, and you can always rely on the wonderful cut scenes by westwood actors and actresses. This game is worth its cost and is a must have for most gamers.

Bummer. Couldn't even install this game on our computer. At first, we thought we'd received a bad version and reordered a replacement. Then, after hours on-line with tech support, Westwood decided our Celeron processor doesn't meet the requirements. Boo hoo.
