Can't help it, I like it

Yes, I read the reviews where people said it's kinda hard and the computer cheats. I still bought this game because I'm a curious person and the idea of playing different epochs instead of being stuck in one seemed interesting.
Well, I'm glad I did. Though probably not the best RTS game out there it's lot of fun to play. If you start out on an easy level (you can set resources high for instant, give yourself more citizens than your computer opponent) and choose a small map, it's not all that hard. I won against 2 computer players the second time I played. It's even easier if you don't choose one of the offered civilisations but the "custom civilasation" where you can make your own settings. The computer can't do that, so once you know which opponents you play and know their strengths and weaknesses (i.e. good navy but no improvements for infantry) you can adjust your own military and economy to win an advantage.
Sounds boring? Well, it isn't once you get the hang of it and, well, this is what the game is about(you can still use one of the civs that are already on the game). Use whatever you can to build a cililisation that will defeat the others. And you're not alone, you can make allies (but watch out, if you don't choose the "allies locked" setting their loyality might not last and you'll have to look for new friends, maybe by offering a little tribute?). If you're weak look for allies, if you're strong others will seek your benevolence.
You can research technologies, you can train priests, prophets and military units, gather resources and populate settlements to upgrade them into town centers and capitols. All that will make you get into the next epochs where you will find new ways to improve your military, temples, universities and so much more.

In the beginning the huge variety of options can be confusing and if you don't pay attention to have economy and military in balance the enemy will find and use any weakness. But once again, start out small so you can overlook your actions and soon enough you will be ready to take on an enemy who seems too powerful. And it is your choice if you want to fight with soldiers, ships and artillery or convince the enemy of his errors and send priests to convert citizens and soldiers (if you're really good your priests will even convert buildings, but I must admit I was a little puzzled that houses can develop a sense for religion....) ;-)
I found a combination of both leads me to success most of the time, and if all else fails you can still make your prophet call terrible calamities upon the stubborn enemy.

What makes this game a little different and more enjoyable than others I played are the beautiful little details. Not only your buildings change their appearance while you advance through the epochs, but also the clothing of your citizens and soldiers and the way they talk (from "hrrr?" to "with my honour!" and "their heads will roll!"- that's my favorite ;-) but don't worry, there's a "no blood"- setting!). Eagles will flap by occasionally, clouds will throw their shadows on the ground and when your ships engage in a battle you'll actually see the smoke when they fire their cannons ("sink the land- lubbers!!!").

There's much more to explore and I tried to focus on the important and the reasons why I like this game, but I'm sure if you like RTS games you'll enjoy this one. I'd definetly buy it again.

Great opportunity to SAVE MONEY!!!

Just don't buy this one. You will have more fun watching your money sitting in a savings account. And for goodness sakes, don't let your kid waste his/her money & YOUR time!
Seriously, this stupid game has wasted more of my family's time than any other software product we have ever purchased. It runs like molasses on a top-of-the-line processor, with a top-notch video card, tons of memory, lots of disk space. From scanning reviews, I'd guess you might possibly manage to get it working if you happen to have the exact same system as some of the early testers...probably means some out-of-date version of Windows. But don't count on it.
There are so many recommendations in the handbook for speeding up the program, that it's obvious they knew on release that this would be a problem. Half of the recommendations basically involve turning off and/or crippling the promised attractive features of the game. To release a program like this which does NOT reliably run on any machine meeting recommended or better system specifications (and you are out of luck if your system only reaches the "minimum" specs) is totally unprofessional.

The New "Starcraft"

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 6 / 10

The best looking game since Starcraft. Empire Earth (EE) is an Age Of Empires/Age of Kings clone, that takes the genre to a whole new level. 14 Ages instead of AoK 4, hundreds of units instead of 20. Create your own custom civ by choosing from 100 attribute points.

You can choose the ages, or epochs, you want to play. So if you are really into WWII or the resinsuaince you can play those. There are units and counter-units. Everything has a counter. There are infanty, tanks, plants, ships, submarines, and nukes.

The settings can bet set for a quick 3-minute rush or a 5-hour game. This game was the most liked at E3...

Excellent RTS game!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 4 / 5

If your a strategy buff, then this is the ultimate RTS game! If features a multitude of different epochs with weaponery based on those time frames. It's up to you, the general, to make efficient use of those weapons, as well as civilian workers and resources.

Although you need to make sure that your resources are building at a good rate, your ultimate objective is to seek and destroy. If you don't, the AI on this game is extremely tough and very aggressive. Strong home defense, coupled with a strategically well thought out offensive is the utmost of importance! You'll need some practice till you can actually look to beat the AI on EASY! The other levels are alot more faster and aggressive.

Test your leadership skills to run a country and a military! It's the ultimate challenge!

GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This game is great! First of all, you have the ability to zoom down to the ground and view the game in a sort of first person view (a pity that you can't rotate the camera). The second thing is that the game runs very good on even a 300mhz machine! You can make great battles and zoom in to and take some really great screenshots, .... The bad things about empire earth is the future. The units and buildings in the digital and nano age could have been better made and designed. So I think that Sierra should not have included the future, rather adding more units the the modern and past ages. I think that an expansion pack would be very welcome.

A Far Better Game than Civilization 3

Even though I prefer turn-based games to real-time ones, I thouroughly enjoy this game. I've had absolutely no technical problems with it, nor have I run across anything I could call a bug. This is a well-designed, well-programmed, very good game. After several weeks, the only thing I've found that I'd like improved is the ability to have groups of units explore together. As it is, you can manually move a grouped set of units to another location (though they ignore any speed differences), but you can't click the Explore button on that group and have them go en-mass around the screen. Instead, they individually go off on their own. A minor quibble.

History Buffs Beware

OK, I did a lot of research on EE before it came out, and couldn't decide if I'd like it or not. AOK, with The Conquerors, is my favorite game of all time. I thought it was getting a little dated though, and thought EE would replace it as my all time favorite. I was wrong.

First, the 3D engine is very cool and the animation incredibly smooth. But despite this, the 3D graphics just didn't appeal to me as much as the 2D sprites of other games have. 3D may be the newest thing, but why use it if it doesn't look as good or as detailed as an already existing system? Maybe I'm just old-fashioned.

Second, the game is truly epic in scope, but that may be it's biggest weakness. It is true that the epochs are "fleshed-out" and can feel like individual games, but there are elements of detail that AOK and even Cossacks had that are just missing here, like different languages and unique civ units. I found myself missing things like that. I even missed being able to choose my team color. However, it is a truly huge game.

Third, you can play upwards of 20 different civs, but some are much more appropriate than others for specific ages (Babylonians with aircraft carriers or Greeks with mechs just isn't my cup o'tea). Again, I guess this is just a matter of taste.

What I learned from this game is that I prefer RTS games set within specific time-periods that can really encompass the historical feel of the era I'm into at the moment. I enjoy being immersed. EE just can't do that because of it's epic scope. But for gamers who couldn't care less about the history, this game should be a hoot. It's gameplay, graphics and AI are all top notch.

Personally, though, I was disappointed, and am awaiting the release of the Cossacks add on.

5 stars from myself and my kids, 1 star from my wife

Extremely addictive. There are games out there with better graphics, and more of an AI interface, but this game wins, hands down. Especially fun with multiple players. I hook my laptop up to my home PC via cross-over cable and battle my kids, or jointly kick the computer's [rear] (or hard drive - whatever). I grew up loving the game Risk - this is Risk on steroids. Love it!

Possibly the GREATEST GAME EVER

This game is one of the most magnificent and well rounded games ever. Firstly, I would like to warn a certain audience of gamers. This game IS NOT IN ANY MEANS for people who don't like to "think" in their gaming. This is for those who love to MASTER something, and it takes a long time. The graphics are amazing, even in 2003, two years after its release, its playability is nearly endless- as long as you love it. I can sort of see it as a cult game- those who like it, love it; and those who dislike it, hate it. The AI is decent enough to play constantly, but it really shines in Humanvs.Human play, where the over 120 units can create COUNTLESS strategies. Land, Naval, Air combat is amazing. Using the zoom, you can view battles from an amazing point of view. Nuclear bombers, aircraft carriers, cruise missile subs, all this is included. There is 5 resource types, and tons of buildings and technologies. The only thing that is slightly disappointing is the diplomacy(AI), which is really non-existent. However, features like the Civilization creator and the in-depth campaigns easily make up for it.

I suggest this game for a gamer who loves to play games intelligently, who is a perfectionist, and who likes multiplayer gaming. It is in my opinion the greatest computer game ever created. Thank you Sierra!!!!
