A good game made even better

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 5 / 26

As soon as I saw that one of my favorite games (Empire Earth) had an expansion pack I took out Empire Earth and played it for an hour of two to see what they might have added. There could be plenty of things that they added like:

-New Civs
-Paratroopers
-New missions
-More upgrades

If you have played and finished at least one of the four campaigns in Empire Earth then you will most likely want to get this game. Even though I haven't played it (or bought it for that matter), this looks like a really cool expansion to a great game. Although I wouldn't go so far as to give 5 stars to a game I don't even have.

A Bitter Disappointment

As a beta tester I had the chance to play online in the multiplayer beta test. So far I have been very disappointed.

When I first heard of the new space epoch I was thrilled. I couldn't wait. But sadly the space epoch is no more than water turned into space and islands into moons. I will leave out the bugs because it is beta and they are likely to be fixed. But with the very few new units and the lameness of the space epoch I would have to say that Empire Earth stopped with part one.

The space ships (The Capitol Ship, Corvette, Transport and Space Carrier) are poorly designed graphically. While there are new civilization bonuses there are only a few new units besides the space ships.

Unless Mad Doc Software adds a whole lot of new stuff before finalizing the product (which I doubt will happen unless they extend the final release date) I don't think I will be wasting my money on it. It is at best a $5.00 add-on.

I would not even give it the second star were it not for a major overhaul in the multiplayer game room setup.

The Art of Conquest expansion is a sad ending for the best game I have ever enjoyed.

...

So much potential

Great Game Gets Even Better.

The expansion adds a new era to Empire Earths 100,000s years, adding a new level of game play and diversity into this already great game. It also adds far more greater eye candy and improvements into the already evolved game play; example farms are no longer corn only; they offer a diversity of fruits/vegetables and now Custom Civilizations Offer special abilities for your Empire in General; Ranging from Slavery, To expansionism, to A Market (AOK anyone?) to cloaking and Insurance. It also offers specialized units Such as the Cyber ninja , SAS commando and Paratroopers. The ninja can disable temporarily building productions , while on the other hand SAS commandos can set charges on things C n C style, and finally paratroopers are tossed from a plane (8 of them) to assist softening the defenses for a full scale attack. A new terrain also is introduced; Mars, this inhospitable planet is the zone for your allies and you to create an empire to rule them all. I believe this is one of the few great expansions that introduce more ups then downs. Must have for EE lovers.

If you like MS's Age of Empires series or you already have EE then by all means get The Art of Conquest. I never even played any of the campaigns - I strictly play multiplayer with my friends and on the net. AOC adds a new element to the civs which was not there in the first release of EE. Each civ. now has "special abilities"... like Novaya Russia has a nuke, America has a market, Brits have a special demolition unit, etc... this changes the game drastically as you know have a weapon (based on what you pick) that no one else has. Or design your own custom civ and have 2-3 special civ. abilities... There are some new units as well and the new Space Age epoch... which I'm not too crazy about (but then again I dont like anything past WW2-Nuclear). It's worth it if you already like the original EE or just planning to get into RTS games.

This expansion pack is "beyond words." It has a whole new age, which is the Space Epoch. Plus, it comes with three new campaigns. This is definetely worth the money.

Great Improvement for Empire Earth Lovers

If you are an Empire earth lover, this expansion is great. I got to where I could whip two computer ai players in hard in the old game, but not this game. The ai suddenly became much harder on hard. Now I can barely take on one ai on hard, and not always successfully. Great new challenge. Also, the new special powers add a new dimension.

Great expansion pack.

I have read several reviews from gaming sites that this games doesn't offer enough. Gamespot in particular gave this a 5.2 out of 10 rating and gave the value a 3 out of 10. Give me a break. This expansion pack gives you 18 new missions (ever seen another expansion pack do that? not many I will bet, and a few of them are pretty hard. There is also a new option that you can make each mission easier or harder instead of having to start the complete scenario over (though I am glad it din't have that option in the original becasue I would have taken that way out on a few of those tough missions). The graphics didn't improve all that much, and neither did the cutscenes, but it seems there was alot more color added to the terrain, units, and buildings. There are also new maps for multiplay or going against the computer like mars and the moon. There is also a new civilization you can play. There are serveral hours of gameplay (especially with with many of the mission in each scenario lasting 2 hours or more to beat), so this adds much more to an already awesome game. And with the price it is selling at now, how can you not add this to your EE collection. A great value for all the gameplay you will get.

What I think, and a description of the expansion+space age.

I bought this game off amazon.com for $.... First thing first, the expansion is not anywhere as good as the first. You get like 4-6 new units in scenerio mode, and a new age (space age), plus civilization abilities. The Russian team gets a nuclear base as their special ability, but every team gets to make anti-nuclear missle veichles, as if everyone were to fight Russia. In the Space age you can not make docks or ship yards (sea power is dead), instead you make space ships (about 4 different ones, including transport) and space turrets. The space in the game is like the sea, a big black area filled with stars. Only space ships can go on it. Space ships can't go on land or water. Your space port has to be built where land and space meet only, so your ... if your surrounded by water. Space ships can attack land, but not very far, the distance is about 3-5 town centers put next to each other. So it is possible that some one from the nano age can defeat someone from the space age. The cybers have no other upgrades. In Nano and Space, your citizens become robots. The first EE is the one of the best stategy games to me, but the second one just ruins it.

Great, But Could Be Better

I bought this game about 6 months ago and have been glued to it. It's near perfect, but there are a few problems. First, there is a limit to how many units you can have that is way too small. It makes it very difficult to cretae full-scale battles when you can only have 1200 units on the field. Also, the Scenario Editor is very hard to understand. I still don't know how to change the na,es of units or how to make the computers units stand still for awhile.Another problem is the lack of campaigns. There are enough to keep you busy but they soon diminish.
The good things about this game are numerous. First of all, gameplay is very fun and well organized. The campaigns are 100% history based and I learned quite a bit. The Multiplayer part of the game is fantastic and full of players. The Scenario Editor and Campaign Editor let players experiment and be creative. After the facts, I would give the game 4 stars.
