Save your money. I've played this game since summer of lastyear and from observation you need at least 8 hours a day to doanything due to over crowding and severe customer serviceissues.

Most of the big monsters are heavily camped (ie. people sitting on their butts for 8 hours at a time waiting for the thing to show up and doing *nothing* else), there are severe flaws in the monster IQs, and frankly, customer service is non-existant.

If you have a problem get ready for a 45 minute to a 5 hour wait for assistance. If someone harasses you (from my own obserations), expect nothing to be done about it because the standard EQ guide saying is "sorry, they're not doing it now (after waiting 2 hours for help) so I can't punish them".

After the initial couple of weeks you'll be bored and frustrated. EQ's best use right now is as a enhanced chat room. You will meet a lot of people beause a lot of them are sitting around doing nothing waiting for monsters to spawn.

That's all it's worth right now. So save your money.

A fantastic, ongoing RPG experience

Simply put, this game is one of the most long lasting, continually addictive games I've encountered...

Ok...now that that's out of the way, what is so addictive about this game? It's difficult to put a finger on. One of the many nice things about this game is that the designers are constantly working on it, and improving the world. As they make improvments to the game, your own copy is updated appropriately...so there's always new and interesting things to look for within the world. And it's a *big* world. Finding your way around is no small challenge...but it's made easier by locating starting characters in the areas they can explore in relative safety. As one becomes more powerful, further exploration becomes a natural direction to take.

To do this game justice in a short review is truly impossible. Suffice it to say that the game is a very well designed and maintained internet-based 3d RPG. (both an internet connection and a 3d card are required). Be prepared to put your life on hold and put in some serious time to get your character up to the higher levels...and be prepared to have a good time doing it.

As a final note, I do not actually play this game any more, because of its biggest drawback: it's simply too easy to get sucked into it for large periods of time. No joke.

This game is amazing

This is a very very good game. Unlike other games, you have complete freedom to do as you wish. You can cross the ocean, Battle Orcs at Crush Bone or just get drunk at the local tavern. It is also an online based game, so things are never the same and you can interact with other people (duels, joining groups etc). This game also has amazing graphics and is a must buy. I must admit how ever, it was a bit of a hassel for me to install and the servers are sometimes out due to mal-functions or updates. But not all the time. But anyway, in my mind, this is a must buy.

Unbelieveable Experience

This game is the perfect definition of "Digital Crack". Its more addicting than cigs! Extremely good interface, and beautiful storyline and interaction with other players. It opens a new world of interactivity and gets you in the feeling that you really are there. If I had to pick any RPG on any platform (including console games) that I would give my highest ratings, this is it. If you are an RPG buff like me, you will NOT be upset purchasing this game. Believe me, its worth its weight in platinum! :-). - Aalodar on Erollisi Marr server!

I never would have believed that one could actually become addicted to a computer game, but this one is unlike anything I have ever played. Perhaps its that the game is open ended because you play with other people, perhaps its the immersion in a graphically astounding 3d world. Whatever it is, be prepared to devote a lot of time to gameplay. the only problem is that some times real life interferes.

For the MUDder in all of us

Having gone through a two-year multi-user dungeon (MUD) addiction, I guessed that EverQuest wouldn't have much of anything new to offer me. I don't think I have ever been so wrong before in my life. EQ is a massive game populated by unbelievably kind players and a seemingly endless array of options for your character. It is intricately and carefully designed, and will be fun long after you recover from the stunning effect of its beautiful graphics and intuitive gameplay.

EverQuest: Addictive, but not very fun.

Never will you find a community of gamers that so openly hates the game they play, yet refuse to stop playing. Every single community forum is filled with whining and complaining about everything wrong with the game, and for the most part, they're right!

Then why won't they stop playing? EverQuest is addictive. Horribly so. Once I started playing, I spent every single shred of my free time playing it, even late into the night while my wife wondered if I would ever come to bed.

At some point, I realized that I was playing so much not because I was having a good time, but because I was addicted. I suggest you find a game that you can play for fun, not because you want to spend hour after hour on an incredibly overcrowded server sitting in the forest waiting for an uninspired monster to respawn so you can see if maybe this time you can finally get the magic boots of Dungia, or whatever.

Pretty graphics, wretched game

I had fun in Everquest, for a little while. I could list the things I hated about this game, but I'm going to save the energy. One thing I must mention is that the gameplay is crap. The game progresses terribly slow and worst of all it doesnt progress anywhere in particular, just up. Up another level, up another level, up another level. Its about as much fun as climbing a ladder.

Addictive even to those of us over 35!

Well, this will be difficult because I went from loving the game so much that I could not think of anything else, to quitting cold turkey for precisely the same reason. This game can be described in one word: horribly addictive. Well, that's two words, but you get the picture. I played virtually non-stop for four months. Anyway, if you have nothing but time, buy this game. The graphics are wonderful, the world is huge and beautiful, and the first-person, 3D view makes you almost believe you ARE there in the world of Norrath and you ARE your character, be you elf, troll, dwarf, ogre, halfling or human. The drawbacks, aside from it taking over your entire waking life, are that to advance you must kill, kill, kill increasingly difficult creatures and are 'forced' to play well with others, or 'group'. If you find others you enjoy grouping with, which is inevitable, you struggle to keep up with them. If you don't care about advancing and you just want to travel and explore, you can do that but it can be dangerous to your health...err.. character's health as getting killed severely limits your traveling opportunities. I quit this game and have resumed normal life, but sometimes I miss Norrath .
