Everquest. Active Player Since June 1999

First off, everyone is right, this game is very addictive. So is television, sports, etc. etc. etc. The key is balance. I make the assumption that you can balance the things in your life. Yes, you will have to make time for this game. How much time and what activities you will replace are things that must be very active in your mind. That said...

When you start, don't expect others to help with anything other then information. It is difficult, but you learn to count on yourself, you learn to respect others, and you get a sense of accomplishment. If someone "gives" something to you, you don't value it as much as something that you earned. Would you go out begging on the streets in real life? NO? Then don't do it in everquest. Earn your own keep.

I remember several things fondly.

The day I started. I knew that the game would NEVER again have the mystery it did on that day. I envy everyone that is just beginning.

Seeing my first sunset in Freeport. It was beautiful!!! My home city of Felewithe is located deep in the woods. I didn't even know the sun existed for weeks. I rode the boat to Freeport and exited the city onto a desert. Seeing my first sunset in the desert outside Freeport was VERY beautiful

Saving game money for weeks to give to my friend when he started. I saved and saved to make his game life a little easier. It was only a little money, but it was a fortune to me at the time. With that money, he was able to start out with some leather clothing and a few backpacks.

Being in a group of other players and turning the impossible into the possible. All looked lost, but I kept my head about me. We all lived, but it was very hairy. No one in the group could believe it. I was the toast of the group and there was a great feeling of satisfaction.

Being teleported for the first time. I was completely amazed, that in an instance, I was taken somewhere that had taken me a few hours to cover via foot travel and ship. Of course, paying the druid (a real person) for the teleport was not as pleasant. It was more money then I gave my friend to start!!!

Helping others. As you become more powerful, you have the ability to save the lives of others lower then you. I remember running by a group of players that were being attacked by too many creatures. I stopped and hypnotized everything that was attacking them, then stopped the creatures from hating them. I did one of many good deeds and they appreciated it.

This game is what you make of it. That's why it is so amazing!!! If you are a person of moral fiber and are good at what you do, you will gain a reputation of respect. If you are an obnoxious beggar or have not taken the time to learn what your character can accomplish, then you will gain a much darker reputation. For example, I was paying a druid for a teleport. I accidentally gave the money to the wrong person. When, I asked for the money back, the person laughed at my bad fortune. I asked the person if their reputation was worth the little money they had received. No answer, no money. I told everyone about that person. Everyone I met. Everyone one I grouped with. I have heard from several friends that the person has trouble grouping because of his thievery. Your reputation in the game is very important. If you want a bad reputation, as some evil players do, you can get one. If you want a good reputation, you have to work at it.

Everquest reflects real life because the players are real people. Social skills learned in real life apply to everquest and visa versa. There is action and reaction. There is reward and punishment.

Highly recommended for its entertainment value, its social value, and its ability to build confidence and character.

Excellent- however it can be TOO adicting.

I've been playing for about a month now, and I think it is a great game. The world is very large (in playing over 40 hours I've seen through about 1/15th of the world). I warn you though, it can be too adicting. You may find yourself staying home on a Friday night to play!

A family ruining game

Everquest is too hard and the search for experience is too timeconsuming and frustrating and when the right person starts playing it its very absorbing. It ruined my marriage.

I have been playing this game since April 2001 and have not stopped since then. Yes this is an addicting game and requires time on your part. The drawbacks are you meet alot of people who are immature and think because they have a higher character are big stuff the pros are meeting new people from everywhere, I have played with people from Germany, France, Canada, and the UK. This does not include all the players i have meet online from all over the US. If you like RPG then this is the ULITMATE in RPG and you need to get it. But remember to have a life too.

Yeah, you can't play this on WIN95 anymore

FYI with the new version out, everyone need to have Dx 8.1 installed to play this game... win 95 apparently can't run dx8.1, so basically, the system requirments for this game have been changed...

No Thanks

I might get yelled at by fellow gamers, but I hated Everquest.

1) The graphics were horrbile compared to Asheron's Call
2) I got motion sickness. No other game game me motion sickness. This game started it!
3) The learning curve was horrible
4) It was tedious
5) Couldn't group like Asheron's Call

your in are world now...no you will be asimlated

Lets face it ever quest is the best game of all time no game i have ever seen played or even herd of could match the injoyablity of this game. The control is great the posobiltys are endless you can do almost anything...such as you can get drunk you can fish you can make equipment, you can enchant ore.I admet it could be made better and thay are thats what the upgrades or for and as i said above this game is vary addictive.there are many classes and races to choose from and if you want theres many guilds to join, might i suggest the Crimson Horde on the bertoxsulus server yes i know my spelling sucks but im typing a lot faster than i used to...becase of ever quest yes.It my get boring after a while but by then you should have ganned a level and that seems to renew the fun.and dont pay any attentchin to that the game ending at level 50 well first thing is it will take you a long time to get to level 50 but even if you do theres thousands of quests to do and more is being made..so this game is a must have.

Still the most fun game I have ever played.

I admit I am addicted. I always loved MUDs. EverQuest is simply the best MUD ever made. It has some drawbacks, overcrowding, bugs, quests which are simply kill these monsters and bring back these things for a prize, but the number one problem is time commitment.

Oh, EQ plays fine on slower hardware (200MHz Pentiums and 28.8 modems), but it needs at least Voodoo 2 level video performance.

This game has consumed nearly all of my free time in the past year! I'm hooked. I look forward to the Kunark addition and will buy it ASAP.

Just can't stop!

This is without a doubt the best gam eI have ever played. The atmosphere in the game is great and Everquest is even more fun if you play it with RL buddies. Some people knock it for not being a "true" RPG the real gem of this game is player interactions. This game has much less "Kewl d00dz" looking for "phat lewt" than either UO or AC (I've palyed them both). Pound for pound if you like online gaming this is the game for YOU!

Everquest=brilliance... what more do you need to know?
