Creepy, fun and deadly!

Shadowgate Classic for Gameboy is great. The graphics are wonderful and the music is pretty good. The game is much easier than the PC version; Torches burn longer to compensate for maneuvering the cursor and interface. Certain spells can be recast and you can carry a lot more than you could in the PC version. The game is very deadly; trying to kill you almost from the start and has an interesting, creepy feel to it when you play. The interface and programming is a little similar to Deja Vu 1 and 2, and like that game, it has a great website. Great replay value too!

A great puzzle/RPG game.

I loved this game because first off, it had some great puzzles in it. Some took me hours to figure out, but it was worth it to see the plot revealed. The characters were great, and so was the ending. This is a good game to get if you liked puzzle games like Myst, and/or RPG games.

Classic Adventure Gaming at it's Best!

Back in the day when this game came out for the Nintendo adventure games were still huge and popular. I remember seeing this game in the store and saved every penny I earned so that I could buy it. After purchasing it and tearing into the box like a madman I sat down to play one of the most enjoyable adventure games ever. The setting was very cool and creepy. I think that my favorite part of the game was the music. The music made you feel right at home in the creepy castle. Shadowgate had to be one of the toughest games out there. Back then internet was unheard of in homes and the only place to get a hint was by calling 1-900 numbers which my parents never let me do. So I got stuck in the game and never finished until years later when I could find hints on the internet. To finally complete the game was very fulfilling. I played through it many times after that and each time was just as good as the first. Now I don't know if it was a good idea for Nintendo to re-release it in the current age of gaming. Adventure gaming now is almost dead and all the kiddies now like action, action and more action. So while this may be a slow game and not filled with action every second, if you take time to appreciate it for what it does then you will have a rich and rewarding experience.

Not very good

I got this game one Christmas and it was not very fun. I found it to be very slow. It was very difficult to find out where you were supposed to go next. I didn't get very far before I gave it away to gamers. I would not recommend getting this game if you don't like slow games. If you are looking for a game where you fight a lot this isn't it. I know another person who also thought it was not good and he gave it away.

this is an original rpg without hours of mindless typing [open door, look at picture...] the graphics are very nice and the game is apparently the same as the original on NES [?] i enjoy it but it can be chalenging in the way you need the exact thing to do [point and click location] on the screen or NO ACCESS!

i would suggest it only for diehard RPGer's

When we bought our son his first Nintendo Entertainment System, one of the first games we purchassed was an RPG called Shadowgate. The origional Nintendo game is said to be exactly like Shadowgate Classic for the Nintendo Game Boy Console. The game itself is very complicated in it's composure, but it is the only RPG I fully understand. The puzzles inside of the game can be very confusing and there are over one-thousand ways to die from incompetence; but just remember to save your game after every crucial decision you make. Yet, if all else fails, it is wise to consult a game walkthrough, because you do not want to become stuck trying to kill a wraith for 3 months like my son did. Have fun, and be careful.

Memories, memories.

I remember the first time I played Shadowgate for the NES. Its simple Myst-7th Guest type point and click interface and difficult puzzles made the game addicting. Now it's perfectly reincarnated on Game Boy Color. However, there is only so much excitement involved in this format, and the graphics were simple, even back in the NES days. If you got a Game Boy and a few bucks to spare, pick it up.

This game is a lot like Myst. Still pictures and piont and click gameplay. You have to have great patients and nerve to enjoy this game. The graphics are simple but cool. The puzzles are sometimes to tough and you find yourself with no clue what to do next. With all it's drawbacks, Shadowgate is OK. It is very cool to be able to say you have a Myst type came for your gameboy. If there is another game you would like to buy, buy it and not this one. If you don't have any other game to buy than get this one. Honestly, it isn't that bad.
