The last good GBC game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 11 / 11
Date: September 15, 2002

Too many idiots have complained about this game (elsewhere), saying that it sucks and then giving "they should've made it for Game Boy Advance" as their reason. That's not a reason, it's an excuse. This is a great game, and if you'd rather play it on a GBA than a GBC, be my guest.

Anyway, the plot is that all Reploids (for the uninitiated, reploid = robot based loosely on X's design) contain a special part that uses DNA molecule and acts more or less like the robot's soul (they call it a DNA Soul). Lately, Reploids have been mysteriously shutting down, their DNA Souls gone without a trace. X (sort of a Mega Man mkII, aka Mega Man X) and Zero (beam swordsman Reploid and now the star of his own GBA game) are sent to investigate, and discover that whoever took the Reploids' DNA Souls also collected those of several destroyed Mavericks (Reploids who turned bad from a virus) and used them to revive those Mavericks. And so the game begins.

Anyway, the game seems like two short games when you first get it, because you get a mission where you play as X and fight four bosses, and a mission where you play as Zero and fight four other bosses. After the four, you get an option to switch between X and Zero while playing, and then you tackle the Soul Erasers' fortress. The best part, though, is that if you beat one mission, save, and then beat the other mission, you gain access to Xtreme Mode, in which you fight all eight bosses (like a normal Mega Man game) and you can switch between X and Zero at any time (except in certain places, when they're supposedly both fighting at the same time in different places). You can get items to make the game easier by collecting DNA Souls from destroyed enemies (so if you're no good, just collect Souls for a while until you can buy the Ultimate Buster, Buster Plus 2, Speed Shot, Hyper Dash, and so on). This makes the game more accessible to less experienced players, while not ruining the difficulty for the hardcore Maverick Hunters out there. As always, there are capsules you can find that give X upgrades; what's unusual is that Zero gets upgrades now, too, although they mostly kinda suck (except the Zero Final, now THAT rocks). As usual, each boss takes a buttload of damage from another's weapon... but in the single-character missions, you won't have the weapon one of them is weak to, so'll have to use your peashooter--erm, X-Buster--to take him out. And of course, you still have Sub-Tanks for storing extra energy (this really comes in handy against the Xtreme mode final boss, who is... no, I won't spoil it, and if you care you probably know already). The graphics are pretty much the same as the first Xtreme, which was pretty good for Game Boy non-advance. The bosses they used this time around are Neon Tiger, Volt Catfish, Launch Octopus, Flame Mammoth, Wire Sponge, Overdrive Ostrich, Blast Hornet, and Tunnel Rhino. Each one has his original music (sometimes slightly remixed); the rest of the music (title screen, etc.) is taken from X2, except the victory music which is a slight remix of the X1 version. Overall, it's a great combination of elements from old MMX games, with some new stuff added in to boot. It would have been nice if the translation had been a bit better ("Reploid Research Lavatory"), but that doesn't really affect the gameplay.

THIS THE THE BEST MEGAMAN GAME!

This game rocks! Megaman has to recover all of the files of the robots. But, he has to fight robotic killers meanwhile. YOu can play as Zero, the red bot, or Megaman, the blue bot.
The levels are much more challenging than the first Xtreme game. And, the ending is different by which character you, the gamer, choose. I have beat it, and it still gives me bonus games to play.

Really good game!

This game is really great because you can be Zero. Zero is a playable character unlike Megaman Xtreme. This game also has better graphics and a sweet plot. I am definietly getting this game!

SUPER GAME BOY COLOR GAME

This is one of the best game boy color games I have gotten. The graphics are awsome the game play is awsome. There are tons of levels to keep your attention for hours. This game has memory so you can save your game and come back. You can play two different modes both as X or his counterpart Zero. X has all the cool guns and you can keep bulding different armor and all. Zero just has a sword. So I have not played Zero much. I think there is one level you need to play Zero to win, though. For me, I am 32, this game is very difficult. I have had the game for a couple of months and have only gotten to the 2nd level. My son beat the game withough any problem though.

Excellent game! Reccomended

This game is definitely one of the greatest games for any handheld system. From the last level to first it keeps you wanting to play. A nice challenge for people who like challenges. This definitely puts handheld entertainment to the maximum rank in my words. Also with some tough but easy secrets in every level. Indefinitely one of my most played games in my house.

This game is awesome!

first of all, I say this game ROCKS!!!!! cuz you get to play as either X or Zero. Believe me, I'm a total Mega Man fanatic (and no, I'm not a freak!) I also enjoy playing the game although I go out of control sometimes when it comes to kicking enemy butt! on the other hand, I knew the story as well once I read it. It was confusing at first, but now I got it organized in my head. At first I thought Zero was a guy but now I know that it's really a "she" (I can tell because of her feminine body figure and long hair) above all, I say this game is a must-have! when I first got this game, I started to play it once I took it out of the little box. I did't care what my overprotected parents THOUGHT!!!! I bought in secret, went to my room (hiding in my backpack of course) and started playing it. It was one of the best game boy games I've ever had! and PLAYED!!!! on my first attempt, it took me a couple of tries and finally I got to beat up my first enemy. So if you liked other Mega Man games you'll like this one, so try and observe!!!!

Cool!

Also if u buy this game or already have it here is a website that gives u cheats and tells u where all the powerups and heart tanks are mega.man.x.online and megaman xz. BUY THIS GAME!
