I installed the demo of Operation Flashpoint on my new Athlon 1.2Ghz machine with 256 RAM and a GeForce2 video card (64mg). I was playing everything maxed out at 1024x768-32.

I was impressed with the game write from the start. The graphics reminded me of the Rainbow Six series. The first thing I noticed was the realtime shawdow effecs. Shadows of the player and ANYTHING 3D get longer as the sun sets. The overall realism in this game was stunning. You can drive virtually anything in the game. When soldiers stand waiting some may light a smoke and just fidget around. I even noticed the faces are "true" 3D. Not just a ball with a digitized face glued on. The eyes even blink! That much more strange when killing someone. It really feels like there alive. I couldn't stop playing this single mission game. It was different everytime. I had fun searching bodies of alied and axis looking for diffrent weapons. You can pick up anything a dead soldier is carrying and use it as your own. I replyed the mission trying different weapons like rocket launchers and full on machine guns as well as AK-47's from dead enemy soldiers and driving abandond enemy trucks around the country side.

This may very well get the "Game of the Year" award in my book.

This gets Ten Stars !

As a Serving Royal Marine Commando (the REAL MARINES!) with a lot of spare time on my hands (don't tell the queen!) shoot em ups are usually a bit tame,, until now that is! Op Flashpoint breaks the mould infact it shatters it into tiny fragments because this game is definitely the most realistic game ever produced, some one at codemasters has inside info that would get them a job in MI5 or the CIA. This is a TOUGH GAME for a beginner, because there is so much to learn and so much you can do, you can manipulate just about any thing that moves, In fact I have had to draw on years of experience to win the fire fight every time you contact the enemy!. The storey line is very well thought out and totally fluid. You will be totally amazed by the level of thought gone into this sim, If you only ever buy one game in your life you better make sure its this one !! ...

You now ,I'm playing computers games a long time , I always like 1 person shooters but I hate the puzzles and the situation where you don't now where to go. So here We have game that simulates a real war zone ,in real time , where your only concern is follow the orders and not getting killed. Is true that the game doésn't have the best graphics in the world but they are good ,you can use a lot of equipment , and there is always fun .

I hope that will be a second part or something to move on later. Really excellent game , since I'm playing I'm front of my computer until 4-6 hours flat ,and my wife is not happy at all.

Simpily The Best Ever!

I read the reviews of this game and they semed good so I bought it. I was expecting a good game but that's not what I got. I got the most well thought out, simulated game in the world. Detailed in every aspect. Its a royal shame that you can only give this game 5 stars. You can command, drive, fly or be a foot soldier. This game is good beyond words, you just have to buy it. This game is not for people looking for mindless blowing up games and you can take 500 shots before getting killed. It is a simulation, the best game ever thought up. So stop reading this and go buy it, because like I said, it's good beyond words.

As A Final Note...

I've already reviewed this game, but I just have to say this was true computer entertainment! The entire game played out almost like a movie. It was so incredibly dramatic, I'm having a hard time believing this!

Awesome - esp for a bargain bin game!

This game did not get the popularity or the recognition it deserved. First off, it was one of the first tactical combat FPS simulators where you could actually drive any vehicle, explore endless environments, etc.. and it was released a whole year before some other games that could do the same (BF1942 comes to mind). You can do so much in this game, it's too awesome. Like pick up rifles, ammo, grenades off dead soldiers. You can snipe, assault, drive, use heavy ordinance. It's truly awesome. Also, I picked up a utility off of Fileplanet/Gamespy which allows you to do multiple saves in-mission. This will help alleviate any stress some gamers may feel when they play this game - it feels that real when you pllay it. Cheers!!!

it's gonna be a hot one....................

I have downloaded the demo in a belief, that "here we go, another brainless shoot up game, a la IGI or SOF. Well, i have already pre-ordered this game. That's how good this is. This is my first game i ever pre-ordered and i have been playing pc games since '93. I'm also a veteran of US Army. Let me tell you non-veteran people, it will only get more realistic if i could listen to my own breathing and my running footsteps, have sweat drops running down on my forehead, the smell of gunpowder and the air ripping shockwave of the T72 main gun , which will shake you down and make you run like you never ran before.

[....]OPERATION FLASHPOINT is simply the most interactive, engaging, submersive video game I've ever played. I was hooked on SWAT 3 and Rogue Spear - didn't think it could get better - until this game!

The graphics are good, however not the thing you go crazy for - it's about the gameplay!

I love this game!!!

I had to refrene my combat traning to play this one. You have to aim like a real rifle, hide like a real soldier, and think like a real commander on the stratigic level of combat. The only down side is the game programing. >> CHEAT; To take away one the the cons listed by Amazon for this game simple PRESS THE LEFT (SHIFT) + KEYPAD (-) then release and type "SAVEGAME". This will save your gave over and over again. So that bad guy that killed you 50 time can't do it 51 times. This is the best game I have played since Wolfstien 3D. Its get your heart racing and your brain thinking of how to win. Un-Matched by even Rainbow Six or Medal of Honor.

Operation Flashpoint, a game worth your time!!!

Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis is an unique strategic shoot-em up game. You would like this game because you can move wherever you want on the map, and take over any land, sea, or air vehicle in the game. You can see the weapons the men carry on their backs, instead of having a weapon being pulled out of thin-air like in other games. This game, like Project IGI has huge levels that don't slow down the computer's game-play.
Codemasters is a good gaming company that developed this realistic game, and many other games, including Project IGI, Project IGI 2, Blade of Darkness, and is currently making Prisoners of War.
The main reasons I like this game are the huge levels, multi-player support, and you work your way up to commanding officer. The game design is great, because the weapons are very realistic and you get tired after running a while like in real life.
Eventhough Operation Flashpoint is breath-taking game, it has some bad glitches that include if you get too close to an object, its a little blocky in that it doesn't look 3D. Some examples may include bushes, trees, and sand bags. Another bad thing about the game is that the characters move sluggish.
I would suggest that you should be 13 or older to play this game, because it requires patience, skill, and concentration. Also, this game has a lot of animated violence.
