Another weak expansion

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 73 / 75

I am a Roller Coaster Tycoon addict. Having said this, you will appreciate it even more when I tell you that this expansion to RCT2 is fun, but it is not the game expansion it could be.

Only about 70MB on a 600MB disc? This could have easily been added to the "Wacky Worlds" disc and =still= have room left for more material.

The box says that there are 14 new scenarios, and other new material. But is it really new? Not that I can see. Although the scenarios are nice, and they are new, they really aren't that different from some we already had.

The "new" coasters are just redesigns of coasters that already exist, but with themes that are similar to themes in the pack. This isn't what I expect when someone says I'm getting a "new" coaster. Rethemed coasters are pretty in the park they were designed for, but are not "new" coasters by my definition.

Some of the rides are just rethemed redesigns of rides we already had. For instance, the "King Neptune" ride is just a themed version of a Scrambler, which we already had in the form of the "Twist".

A couple of the shops are new. There was a couple shops that sold both food and drink, a nice addition for smaller scenarios and parks. But there weren't any really new things here other than that.

Some of the scenery and theme additions are nice, especially the animated ones. I may add a couple of these to parks I'm designing. But that doesn't make this addition any more worth the extra cash. At least this expansion was priced significantly less than the previous one.

My suggestion is to wait. My highly educated guess is that RCT2 will eventually be released in a "Gold" or "Platinum" or some such designation edition that will include the RCT2 game and both additions - the "Wacky Worlds" add on and the "Time Twister" add on, if not even more material.

Fun but not worth the money.

Dosen't really live up

The game dosen't live up in many ways.

First off, the scenery for the olden days -- Mythology, Prehistory -- etc, is excellent and bountiful. There's only ONE package for the future and it's mostly walls.

I think the game's ratio of Time Twisting leans strictly towards the past. Most of the new elements relate to building "old" or "past" things like classics.

The new shops and stalls sell the standards. No new foods or drinks. A new bathroom style -- wooden. For Jurassic Parks?

The game's futuristic rides seem less than futuristic. Sure, they look like it, but really rides of the future would be a little less primative. Another flaw is the sheer stupidity of the, let's say, Robin Hood scenario. Those rides, I'm sure didn't exist in the Robin Hood time -- especially roller coasters made of "mini-steel"!

The game dosen't exactly deliver what it says. Same interface, graphics. Most new rides come in the form of redesigning (giving a new vehicle for, mostly!) an old standard: the Reverser Coaster becomes "Police Chase" but it just has new cars, and the like.

Not really worth it. You're not missing out.

On the plus side, the Scenario Editor has more choices and you can build a park with better realism to the theme--but still... Not really wroth it

Don't review until you get the actual item

Amazon shouldn't even allow reviews to be posted on items no one has access to yet. It's like giving a movie that won't be released for another year a bad review because the director's old movie from two years ago was a dud.

I have to admit that when I played the original Roller Coaster Tycoon I was impressed. I was happy with the expansions added to that game too. Each expansion added new rides and scenery and lots of new scenerios. It was quite fun to play.

However, I have not been impressed by RCT2. It's a rework of the original with very little new content and too many things changed or removed. This Time Twister Expansion Pack, being released months after the Wacky World Expansion Pack, should say one thing to everyone out there: Atari is attempting to create add on packs in a similar fashion as what EA did with The Sims. However, the expansions for RCT2 add much less in content. All they do is take the same old rides and create new ride vehicles. That does not justify a whole brand new ride! It's the same thing just reworked. Yes, a lot of scenery is added too. But there's no significant change in gameplay! You're still building the same parks with the same old rides. They just have the option of looking different now. It's much like how you could download new buildings for Sim City 2000 or 3000. EA never charged anyone for that because it's not changing gameplay--it's just making things look nicer, if you want. Does Atari think it's special or something so that it can charge money?

I used to be a huge RCT fan. Currently, I'm disgusted. I would not pay more than $8 for any of these RCT2 expansions if I were to ever get them. At present, I will not buy any expansion to RCT2. Companies have got to learn that you can't slap together a few little visual enhancements, put them in a box, and sell them. I'm extremely dissapointed.

As for myself, I LOVE this game! The expansion packs are great! You have sooooo many more options than before. My favorite part is creating my own scenario and giving myself lots of money and every piece of scenary or rides that I'd like and just CREATE! It's great!

Now for the kicker ---- I'm a "in my 30's" homeschooling mom! :)

Pretty interesting! Finally a good expansion pack to RCT2!!

Now that's what I'm talking about! Admittedly, at first, I thought that the Wacky Worlds expansion pack was better than most folks thought, but this new one, Time Twister, blows it out of the water. This is how an expansion pack is supposed to be, with not only re-vamped rides and new scenery, but with NEW rides and BETTER scenery! But not just scenery, but with SPECIAL EFFECTS!! I'm not going to be the one to give away too many details, but it's worth getting. The scenarios seem more challenging to me, but they're more in sync than the ones in Wacky Worlds. Personally, I like these better (they're from different times). And yes, they lowered the price ...! So I recommend this to every RCT fan!

Recommended for RCT addicts like me

If you are, as I am, totally addicted to Roller Coaster Tycoon, then you don't really need to read some verbose review. Let's face it, the only thing better than Roller Coaster Tycoon is MORE Roller Coaster Tycoon. Time Twister will take you to new and exciting locations and that is what matters. Where is it lacking? Sure there are a few new park themes, but your basic rides stay the same, only with new names or a variation on the color or style of cars. It is still worth the investment. Enjoy!

After puchasing this Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 expansion pack, Time Twister, I am needless to say this abseloutely the WORST computer software I have ever bought. Atari has simply reused concepts that started in the original tycoon game, such as Dinosours, and then have added a couple "new" game elements which are irritatingly pointless. Spend your well-earned $14.95 on something worth it.

Still can't think of a title

Ok, ENOUGH WITH THE SCENERY!!! There is so much scenery, omg, it anoys me. They couldn't have put something else in like a ride your ride thing. Ya the scenery is nice and now some of it actually moves, but I don't really use scenery. Even if I did, there is still too much of it. New rides? Ya right. They did the same thing that they did in Wacky Worlds, replaced the old car with a different looking one. Some new ride.
To conclude... DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS. IT IS NOT WORTH IT. YOUR NOT MISSING ANYTHING. But if you really wan't all that scenery and new scenorios, borrow it from somebody cause you don't need the disc to play it (you use the RCT2 disc). Just borrow it and install it and you will have it. Again, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

G reat Game!

I think this game is awesome! It has lots of cool rides like Hall of Mirrors, and the Fun House! You also ger different types of shops and rides! And the animated scenery rocks, it even has a shadow! I recommend the game if you want more things for it!
