Fun but outdated...

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 7 / 7

This was a good but buggy game when it debuted, but patches (including internet play) have made it a late bloomer. Fun to go through, but beware the adult themes and situations.

Great for the price. Be sure to download all current patches beofre you play the first time, as patching erases all saved games.

Interesting, invloving first-person-shooter

A first-person-shooter developed to look so much like Quake. SiN is actually one of the two games that have been touted as this year's "Quake Killers" and beat its rival Half-Life. The original release was buggy and almost unplayable, and an 18 MB patch is needed before you even run SiN the first time. Different from Quake in the sense that you're dropped into an almost-real world where you have a purpose and where what you do affects the game's story line. Thus putting the player in control and increasing your immersion into the game itself. You need to face choices throughout the game, and decisions you make now may affect your path in the future. Now this is what I call interesting.

Great testosterone fuelled low-brow fun.

This game came out right around the same time that Half-Life did and decided to take the competition head on, including various jabs at Valve in the game itself. Unfortunately I don't think they really knew what they were up against. Where Half-Life had richly imagined interactive alien environments and a mysterious story that pulled you relentlessly through the satisfyingly lengthy gameplay, SiN had over the top b-movie machismo, a comicly villanous antagonist with a super-abundance of polygonal cleavage, cheesy dialogue and slightly buggy gameplay. I love them both to be honest, but whereas I've play HL through no less than 10 times I can't say I've played SiN through more than twice.
Once properly patched, the game is fun, but still feels as though the developers reach exceeded their grasp. I like the large number of secrets included, including secret levels, and the fun items like being able to transfer all the money from the villains account into your own on the bank level.
The overt sexism revealed in some of the "Secret" areas of the game feels like something a College Freshman would have reveled in when first away from home, but that said; it is refreshing to have a game that's not frighted of being somewhat offensive for the purposes of entertainment.

All in all it's worth playing, and I think you can get it free with SiN Episodes now off Steam for a very attractive price. Boo yah!

Great game, but has some SiNs

This is a great game with good graphics but has some flaws. This game has some great moments, for instance the moment when your in a helicopter controlling a machine gun shooting people on rooftops, and thats only one of them. But there are some SiNs. For instance there is the 1 gb installation, and some brain-dead opponents, but there are very few others. Overall this is a great game, but has some flaws.

Sin

Sin is a first person shooter with a great story driven single player gameplay, It is not just a shoot em up, It has an intresting storyline and there are great puzzles and discoveries and some some very interesing discoveries to be made.Set in the future you play a tough cop John Blade and you have a computer hacker sidekick JC. A bank robbery has taken place and you are called to handle the situation. You chase the baddies through the city slums and the underground railway station, In the railway station you face a bizzare thing. Then sin gets very intresting. Belive me after the underground railway station sence you could not stop playing sin till you finish it. SiN has a really good ending. The enemy AI is very impressive, The enemies are very clever, It is fun to fight the bald headed baddies than the zombies. The level desing is superb, The levels are very well done and they are fun and challenging to get through. one level is completely underwater and in one level you need to drive a motorcycle on the hill road with a large gap in the road and you need to drive your vehicle though the gap. I played it on the default OpenGL video mode and the game runs very well. The graphics and sound are not exactly ground breaking, The game looks cartoony but the gameplay more than enough makes up for it. Sin may not be as good as half-life but it is much better than quake2 and unreal in story and gameplay.

...it gets out the gate quickly and then grandually grinds to a halt. I thouroghly enjoyed the first few levels of this game as it involved heavy resistance from human characters. The action is fast and furious and keeps the pace moving. As the game wears on, however, the actions of the "A.I." opponents become more sparse and predictable as the game essentially turns into a monster hunt. Gameplay is very easy so it's a good starter game for a first person shooter before moving up to something like Half-Life. The game can be frustrating at times as you must do certain things (turn knobs, open valves, etc...) in order to move on to a future level. I would highly recommend getting the handbook or a walk through guide and finding all of the hidden features the programmers put in the game. Overall I enjoyed the first few levels but found myself wishing the game would end earlier than it did.

Sin-An excellent game that competes with Half-Life

There is no doubt that when SiN was introduced, it had numerous bugs in it. They ranged from attempting to install to the CD from the splashscreen to giving long load times. However, if you're looking for a low-requirement game to play, this is an excellent pick. At this point, patches are available, and any copy you buy will be v 1.01 or greater. The gameplay is very engrossing, from having above average AI to interactive computers. The story throughout the game is very interesting, if a little predictable. The unique humor in the game is also a plus, and the ending is hilarious. Just the sound of Blade's can are enough to make anyone laugh. The graphics are fantastic, and aside from not containing mouth animations, I like them better than Half-Life. The multiplayer is the most fun of any game I have played. The character models contain hit location, but players new to the game won't be killed incredibly fast. The action is quite compelling. To finish, if you find SiN in the bargain bin, don't skip it. The newer versions of the game are certainly worth your attention.

Highly entertaining game with a few flaws.

There are many faults with this game. The graphics look pretty bad at times, there a quite a few bugs even when the game has been patched twice. The "movies" are a bit tacky and it ain't that original. But, unlike a lot of other games out there, it is SO ... fun to play. There's none of this "we're gonna take ourselves seriously" ... It's intentionally cheesy and gung-ho in places, and the plot unravals bit by bit like some American action movie starring Arnold Swartzeneggar. I won't ruin the plot, but the game has been left for a sequal, and even Half-Life was unable to give such a good ending.

Make no mistake, SiN has its faults. You can get hurt by a little mouse attacking you! But after owning it since it was first released I have only just bothered to complete it, and I felt that I had to review it. The level design is far beyond many games out there now, and although some levels don't have a large amount of replayability, some levels are really cool. It may not have aged well, and Half-Life is definately a better game, but if you're bored of all this serious stuff that's around and you just want something where not only can you go around shooting things in a deeply satisfying manner (and your computer won't support Unreal Tournament), but also that will make you laugh in places and even get you attatched to some of the characters, this is the game for you. Especially when you can pick up for GBP 10 - GBP 15.

SiN, have some problems, but it' s cool

I have to admit, I gave 5 stars, yes, its one of the best games I ever had the chance to play, but it have some problems, the graphics have some bugs and the history give you a little felling of "deja-vu", but even with this problems I love this great game, if you like guns, hot babes and some funny jokes, this is your game, go and buy!!

An excellent game. Really hard at first but you get used to it. I love old school shooters, this is a must have for any old school shooter fan.
