one of the most "exciting" games I have ever played

My buddy and I just randomly rented this game about a week ago and have done nothing but play it since. While I haven't played Crazy Taxi or Grand Theft Auto yet (which I hear is unreal), I found this game to be very unique, yet very simple with its basic objective being similar to that of "capture the flag".

Smuggler's Run 2 has many different levels of play. The first and foremost is the missions. They range from chasing someone down and capturing them (with your choice of vehicles that you unlock by beating missions), capturing the "contraband" and bringing it back to your base, escaping hostile territory, outrunning pursuers, leading pursuers into a trap, etc. While the missions will frustrate the hell out of you with their level of difficulty, you can't stop playing them. You'll find yourself constantly playing and playing to unlock new vehicles, weapons and secondary options for those vehicles (mines, smoke screens, dropping oil slicks, speed boosts, etc.)

If the missions start to drive you insane, you can go for a "joyride" (actually a play option in the game). Basically you drive around in the HUUUGE terrains of the game without dealing with cops or the army pursuing you. I'm not kidding when I say these terrains are huge. They are beautifully designed with trees, shrubs, thick vegetation, snow, mountains, trains and train tracks, roads with driving cars, people and cows (which you can run over and hear them mooing or yelling), lakes, oceans, rocks, houses, tunnels, etc. It truly is amazing to play this game.

Perhaps the most enjoyable mode of this game is the battle mode. Grab one of your friends and go head to head with them in one of 3 different "capture the flag" games in a choice of 18 enormous levels. This battle mode is unbelievably addictive. On some of the games you can have up to 3 other vehicles on your team who help you "capture" or "defend" the flag (contraband). I can't tell you how many hours I have spent playing battle mode with friends.

I only have two gripes about this game. The first, and most annoying, is the general "physics" of the game. Sometimes I will find myself losing control of the vehicles because they hit something that sends them bouncing either in the wrong direction that it should, or flying an unrealistically far distance. It's kind of hard to explain what I mean, but I guess the point I'm trying to make is that sometimes things happen that never would if even closely following general laws of physics. My second complaint is that the music is HORRIBLE. In fact, when my friends and I play battle mode we usually turn down the volume and set up an mp3 play list instead.

All in all this game is absolutely awesome. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys first person shooters, racing games, or in general games with constant in-your-face action and great challenges that will keep you playing for weeks.

Smugglers Run 2 is a lot of fun as well as challenging!

After renting Smugglers Run: Hostile territory the other night, and hours of gameplay, Ive found this game to be pretty high up there in the list of fun PS2 games. It was at first quite easy, with extremely simple controls and beginner missions. After a couple of hours of solid game play though, and after passing the first seven or so missions, I realized this game isn't so easy after all, though it is still a great game?

What makes this game so great?

The answer to this question is a combination of the simplicity of the controlls, the awesome soundtrack, and the challenging missions. The controls are directional, meaning you dont have to worry about using every single button on your controller, as you do with some games. The music rocks, because its not typical bands playing the same songs over and over again, instead, its a series of more electronically produced music, with its intensity and dramatic tone matching that of whatever mission you're playing. The missions themselves get increasingly challenging, I personally have not yet passed the ninth mission (I plan on doing so tonight though!)

So, if you're up for a few hours of a fun, a challenging game, and want to try your hand as a smuggler of contraband, being chased by border-police as well as the army, fighting battles with other smuggling groups and thieves, grab up a copy of Smugglers Run: Hostile Territory, and have some fun!

Puts the first smuggler run to shame!

With out a doubt this game is definatly a step from the first Smuglers Run. The graphics are a worlds better and there are many more dfferent cars for you to choose from like the atv monster and a army tank.

At first I was heistant of buying this game. I did like the original Smuglers run, but it was lacking somethings. For starters, the one player mode was very short and the graphics were OK. All in all the original smuglers run is very good, but like I said... It could be better.

The second one is defiantly better then the first. You go to various parts of the world, there are more cars for you to choose, and the fuzz is a little easier to beat. I was also impressed by the music. Now when your sneeking goods into different countries you can also get your grove on!

Hey what the heck, go buy the game! You will be impressed and defiantly more satisfying than the first!

No Boundries To This Game

This game is great! It is easy to play for anybody. I like that fact a lot because I have a hard time with PS2. This game has no boundries. So you can drag as many enimies away from their base. The vehiciles are awsome and can reah speads over a hundred. The music in the backround is great. The main objective is to take billions of money from other smugglers and bring it back to your base. I highly recomend this game! If you don't know what to ask for for Christmas ask this game over every other game!

This was the sixth title I've gotten for my PS2 and I'm happy to say, it's awesome. The gameplay is fun and frantic and the graphics are pretty impressive. My favorite part of the game, aside from it's challenging missions, are the go-anywhere levels and the sense of speed you can get from a 4-wheeler. It's just an all-out blast, whether you're plowing through the swamps, or tearing across the desert.

My only complaint about the game isn't a real biggy, but I really feel that we could have done without the EXTREMELY tacky FMV. It makes me feel like I'm watching one of those movies that the USA network only airs early in the AM. They're pretty bad, and the acting is worse. It's also kinda distracting, but not enough to take away from the fun of the game. Luckily, we have the option of skipping through this mess. FMV was cool when the first playstation came out. Not anymore.

Anyway, the Hostile Territory is a load of fun and the reply value will make you glad that you bought it. If you're looking for a game with some variety that will keep you busy well into the year, look no further. enjoy.

You may also wanna check out Grand Theft Auto 3, if you already haven't.

I just purchased this game today, and after several hours at the PS2 and with currently swollen thumbs, I have just enough energy left to recommend it. I was a little upset at first that I was unable to use the D-pad, but the analog controls are precise and easy to manage. Missions vary from one to the next, but most entail capturing contraband and avoiding cops and others while you take it (smuggle) to another area. The timed missions keep you on your toes! As you complete missions you unlock better vehicles and different maneuvers for your vehicles. Further along, you unlock different areas, though I'm currently still in Russia. Gameplay is excellent (especially with two players!). The graphics are good on a scale of bad to great. The maps are huge and the terrain is varied. This game reminds me of Red Faction only for the fact that you can have as much fun playing with friends as by yourself. Don't rent it, buy it!

This is definitely not a keeper. The only good part of the game was driving around. You're only in 3 places anyway in the whole game. And the vehicles are all bad. Basically all you do the whole game is drop off and deliver stuff to other people. The Graphics are great, but it is too frusterating. I would only reccomend this game to people who like driving.

My cousin has this game and I really like t. Today is the first time i played it and I think you should get it. It is cool how you can get contraband (cargo) and take it to the zone (spot) where the arrow is pointing. If someone bumbs into you you lose the contraband then now they have it then if you bump into them you get it back. The point of the game is to get to the zone and drop it off then you get money. I woul give it 4 stars because the only thing bad about it is that it only has 3 levels (Forest, Desert, Snow). (This is in 2 Player Mode) I think it is the same in 1 player mode but I dont know yet. BUY THIS GAME!

Great Game!!

This game is great! Although the levels are really hard at times its really fun.It is a real challenge at times too.The cars you can use are really cool. My personal favorite is the halftrack(a truck with tracks in the back and wheels in the front). There are a few modes of play, missions, checkpoint race, joyride, and turf wars.Turf wars are kind of like capture the flag.Overall this is a great game!
