I wouldn't know

I just bought this game today after reading wonderful reviews about on this web site! It looked really cool on the box. I was, of course warned about the bugs, but I decided to take that risk. I installed it perfectly, but when I tried to play it it crashed. The person on the phone said I had to have some graphics card made in the past 6 or 7 months, which I didn't. So I tried to download the driver that I need, which took 30 minutes and it still wont work and there is nothing wrong with th cd, I am sure, no scratches or anything. My computer should be able to easily run it. I can already tell that this game is loaded with bugs. And I am not just trying to be a gripe, I am a big Star Trek fan and am usually tollerant with this sort of stuff, but this just frustrates me to death.I gave it three stars because I know it is fun(if you can play it). So make sure you have directX 8.0 and a new computer!

This game stinks

I bought this game because it was Star Trek. Also, it CLAIMED that it would work right on Windows 98. But, NO, when I first played it, it crashed, then when I went to XP, it worked but the cursor was slow as heck. Then, I went looking for the patch I needed, and it wasn't there, however there were what looked like dozens of other patches there. It was obsolete, they said. Well I guess I bought the game too late to get the patch then huh? Other than that, it's a good game (if it would work).
If you want to try it, go right ahead.

Fun Game, Very Buggy, This Price is bogus

The game is fun, but extremely buggy. The company gave up supporting it only a few months after its release. They never did produce any decent patches to fix the bugs.

Not a bad game once you get it to work

Basically the game is like Starfleet Command. The main differences are:

- you get to assign captains to different ships and you get to command the newer ships.

- You tend to control the ships at a high level by issuing general orders on which systems of an enemy ship to attack and what attack pattern to take. So in that sense it is a more like how it's done on TV. i.e. invoke attack pattern delta (whatever that is...)

- You can command several ships at the same time in a large battle sequence. In Starfleet command you get about 3.

- Since your commands are issued at a relatively high level you get more of a chance to admire the battle unfolding.

- Also as the ships get hit their hull starts to deteriorate like on TV. You get to see more and more of the skeleton of the ship. Kind of neat.

Major cons:

If you have an ATI Rage Mobility graphics card then you have to replace the video driver with a 3rd party one. The support site for the game has a link to a download. I have also posted detailed instructions on how to install the driver on their message board.

Other than that I hear the game is buggy. I haven't encountered the bugs yet but at least they are releasing bug fixes.

I give it a 4 because it isn't a bad game overall and I am a big DS9 fan. Otherwise the level of frustration I went thru installing the game would have resulted in a 1/5 followed by a call to the better business bureau.

The game also comes with Starship Creator Warp 2 for free- a thoroughly avoidable "game".

Excellent Game

Very good game. Enjoyable. Can be played on non graphics card enable PCs but very slowly with alot of ram. It would be slugish on missions with nebulas. Computers with Graphics card, will will be very good. On my cheap ATI Xpert 128 32mb card, it ran very well except for slugish controls and stretching ships when engaging warp drive.I liked the graphics and playability. It's cross between Armada and Starfleet Command. They could have added more ship controls like in Starfleet Command though. It is worth the money.

too many bugs equals too much frustration

Beautiful graphics (if you can get the game to run) and fun scenarios (if you don't have to repeatedly reload the game due to lock ups). Talk about frustration. Okay, I didn't spend last years salary on a computer but give me a break. System requirements should include 'state of the art computer with a separate room for the graphics card and RAM.'

I will only say that I've never played a worse game in my life. I'm a huge ST fan but this software creation (if that's what it can be called) is a smack across the face. To be more specific...
Highly unstable with countless software glitches, the game isn't even ripe for a beta test. Crashes, so-called patch releases that don't address problems (or vaguely so), and nearly nonexistent customer service shows that the developers were entirely money-oriented and tried to sell the title rather than to publish a product worthy of adulation. As far as content, game's simplicity is intolerably cruel. A deceiving 3D but in reality a 2D space is a major flaw, not to mention the by far imperfect adherence to the cannon starship specifications and in-game texturing. All you'll do as a "captain" is give one simple order and then sit back and relax while watching your ship(s) make repetitive and boring semi-circular motions which are supposed to be strategic maneuvers. Essentially, you do nothing and the game nearly plays itself.
Do yourself a favor and forget ordering it. You'll save yourself a great deal of frustration.

I got this game yesterday. I must admit I was blown away by the grafics at first. Then I tried to play it for a while. It has a large amount of bugs. The load/save problem is rediculus. Especially when Your on mission four trying to blow up the sensor array. And allready hard mission made much worse when you have to restart the whole thing every time. Plus the interface is booring. I really was Quite upset. I'm returning the game this evening. I just wonder if the'll ever be a good Star Trek video game.

buggy, buggy, buggy! gives "Star Trek" a bad name

I'm sure all of you who think it's fun to play actually got the stupid thing to LOAD on your computer, as I did - but every time I tried to launch a game, the darn thing would shut down on me! I didn't even get to play it. It got trashed real quick. Don't waste your money on this buggy game. Don't you think they'd work all the bugs out BEFORE they put a game on the market???? I guess the name "Star Trek" sells itself!

Bugs everywhere

I bought the game about a week ago and it has been cool for the most part. The game had way too many bugs though. There are so many that you cannot count them all. Also, for anyone with a ATI Mobility video card you cannot play the game. I have this card and I had too download a different driver that makes the game work, but it slows it down by 50%. I do not recommend this game to anyone. Maybe in a few months they will release a better version than this one. I am very angry that this game was not as good as it could have been.
