this is outmoded technology

this game takes over the screen and the computer in XP. It does not run in a window. It is an outmoded piece of software and should no longer be for sale. Scrabble is a classic but this software should be rewritten.

Scrabble works! (With effort)

At first I couldn't get the thing to run. The screen would turn black and I was hosed. The trick is that if you have a firewall you need to give "Scrabble v2.0.exe" access to the internet (complete with the space). I couldn't find this in the ReadMe file. I found this while trying to install another version of Scrabble, "Scrabble Complete" which has better on-line support.

This version (Hasbro) has one decided advantage over Scrabble Complete (Atari) - if you are playing against the computer, it's easier to see where the computer is moving as it "flashes" while playing. Another difference is the music and sound effects which I generally find annoying in this version but not a big thing.

Other than that, the two versions are seemingly identical to the point that I think this is an earlier version of Atari's, but I don't really know. For the price, however, it's a very acceptable version of the popular game.

great...for a while!

I'm eight years old and I bought this because I love the Scrabble board game. This game is brilliant and works well on my Mac. It can be a bit confusing sometimes because, if you do it on 'easy' level, it may change to a harder level of difficulty. This game also includes a super dictionary and some songs that I like although they are a bit old-fashioned. Great backgrounds and definitely worth the price!

Great fun!

I am an intermediate level player and bought this to use on the new MacBook Air with OSX10.5.2. I was pleasantly surprised with the fast loading speed for the game and the ease of use. The board letters are big and bright enough and you can see the countdown for the number of tiles left. No unexpected program quits. Extras like Scrabble dictionary and hints make this a great way to upgrade your skills.

I really enjoyed the game on my old computer but now I have a Windows 2000 NT and cannot get it to work. I am hoping they will put out an upgraded game so that I can use it again. I really miss playing the game on my computer. I also have a high speed connection. Does anyone know if they will come out with an upgrade?

I got the Mac version of this game and it is just like the original, which needs no improvement! It's great!

My Scrabble abends a lot

I am running Hasbro Scrabble on Windows 98 loaded on a Gateway computer. The Championship level doesn't work at all - it abends every time you try to select the first replacement tiles. The other 4 levels work ok, but the internet connection doesn't work. This was given to me as a gift, so it was free. You get what you pay for.

Simple game and educational as well

This is a simple game by today's standards, however, it is not only a joy to play, but somewhat educational too. I think it improves your use of words as well as your spelling. You also get introduced to new words as well.

As a fan of Myst and more convoluted and time-robbing games this is one that I can veg out on with an hour or so to waste. It helps me relax and is not to demanding on my time.

On my 733 Pentium machine with Windows Me it works wonderfully. On my home network I can play against my son and daughter in different rooms.

Nice game, simple to understand, use and works well on my computer. What more could you want....

The game I could not play

I received my Scrabble CD with much anticipation. However, despite installing, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, I could not get the game loaded. I use the Windows 2000 version and, despite the fact that the minimum specifications state "Windows 3.1 and up", I could not get the game loaded. As I live in South Africa, it would cost me even more money in postage to return the game so I am out of pocket. Other buyers beware.

Awesome game. I've played electronic hand-held, deluxe version, original version, and this one is the best. Has many special features and special effects. Many games levels. Terrific graphics!
