Scrabble for the Mac

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 53 / 55
Date: February 17, 2003
Author: Amazon User

According to the Amazon.com information, this version of Scrabble was for Win 95, win 98, and ME, plus Mac OS. What I got was for Win 3.1, and Win 95, plus Mac. It would not load on my Mac I BOOK, OSX. I think this is a very old, old, version and not made to work on Mac OSX. I rated it a "1" because I can't load it, therefore can't use it.

This release is so old that it can only be played on a machine where the video card will go down to the 256 color mode. It is useless on a modern machine.

Very Serious Problems

This program has a very bad interaction with the ZoneAlarm Firewall. It disables all network activity and forced me to reinstall Windows 98 to fix it.

Sucks

There was misleading advertising used with this game. It indicated a MINIMUM of 256 colors is needed, but you can ONLY play it in 256 colors, meaning you must change your computer settings every time you want to play it. When I found that out, I immediately returned this ripoff.

Will NOT run under Windows 2000

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 12 / 12
Date: March 19, 2002

This game will run on Windows 95 but with the release of Windows 2000 and XP the game has to be put to sleep. Infogrames Entertainment has to come out with an updated version for the newer OS's and computers.

This is a 19th Century game still being sold in the 21st Century.

DOES NOT WORK ON WIN 2000

This does not work with Windows 2000. Don't waste your money.

This apparently a 16-bit version written for Windows 3.1

The version sent to me is apparently a 16-bit version written for Windows 3.1. Other stated system requirements are: processor: 486, 8 MB RAM, 2X CD-ROM drive, 5 MB free hard disk space, 640 x 480 display with 256 colors. This is in stark contrast to the higher system requirements being advertised. I'm returning the product with shrink-wrap intact for a refund.

Unusable Scrabble

This product is terrible. It forces you to reduce the number of colors your monitor can display to 256, and then uses colors that make the text unreadable.

It can not be fully installed on a hard disk making it necessary to leave the cdrom loaded whenever it is used.

It is more concerned with making noise and animation than a functional game.

this is outmoded technology

this game takes over the screen and the computer in XP. It does not run in a window. It is an outmoded piece of software and should no longer be for sale. Scrabble is a classic but this software should be rewritten.

The game I could not play

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 2 / 2
Date: July 05, 2005

I received my Scrabble CD with much anticipation. However, despite installing, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, I could not get the game loaded. I use the Windows 2000 version and, despite the fact that the minimum specifications state "Windows 3.1 and up", I could not get the game loaded. As I live in South Africa, it would cost me even more money in postage to return the game so I am out of pocket. Other buyers beware.
