One of the best games

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 6 / 9

This has got to be one of the best Star Trek games ever. The single player campaign is the most in-depth on out of all the Starfleet Command games. The storyline flows very well. The storyline is affected by the outcome of the missions. I your ship is destroyed the campaign will end. The ships look great. the camera angles do not rotate around the ships though, they stay fixed in one area. The weapons look real color wise, the weapons in the other games were purple ,red, and other colors. Your officers report to you in-depth. The is the best Starfleet Command game.

Star Fleet Command 2

This game is a good game. It is a good naval simulation of starship combat. Although the campaign mode is flawed, it is still has a variety a different missions to complete, altough after the campaign is completed, some of them get slightly monotonous.

Somewhat of a dissappointment

I have played all three versions of Starfleet Command and I must say, I was a little let down when I finally got around to playing this version. Some of my particular beefs are:

1) Not enough races
- Why aren't races like the Cardassians, the Breen and of course, the Dominion not part of the package? Perhaps that will come in a subsequent release.

2) Lame DEFIANT
- I was VERY dissappointed with the manner in which the USS Defiant was portrayed. It is one of the weakest ships around with no aft firing weapons when that is CLEARLY a feature that it has. Also, the phasers are not the "pulse phaser" style that I expected to see. Would it have been so difficult to code that up?

3) Somewhat buggy
- As always, ACTIVISION releases a product with known issues and we all have to wait patiently for patches. This version can on occassion freeze your system to the point of it requiring a reboot. Their website offers a "fix" in the way of adjusting your settings, but that doesn't aleviate the problem, despite what they say.

My two cents.

Bow to the master.

When it comes to gaming the Star Trek Franchise has had it's ups an downs. Primarily the downs. But Armada 1 was different. That and Elite Force, I can safely say to this date [...], were the most solid star trek game on the market. All the other developers created products that didn't play well, or didn't finish in time. But from the looks of it, Armada II might as well be finished. It's nice that the developers have set the release date in Winter 2001, giving them plenty of time to make it perfect. [....] I guarantee this game will blow you away!

FULLY INTERACTIVE

This game is so interactive, it lets you set power allocation to all systems, lets you speak as a "captain" making decisions instead of the computer having all the fun. A heads-up game guaranteed to spark interest in people who are looking for a real challenging game, not just another role-playing game. A must for any Star Trek collection.

Great Game!

Star Trek Bridge Commander rocks! It has sweet graphics, 16 different playable ships ranging from the Romulan Warbird and the Sovereign-Class to a shuttle(Not powerful, but fun to mess around in). It has three different outcomes, voice activation technology(Not included), and a 700+ page script. Bridge Commander has one of the most flawless multiplayer setups I've ever seen. This game is GREAT! Buy it from a store as soon as you can; the shipping wait is torture.

Fun But Limited

Although better than most Star Trek games, this one still has some problems. Chief amoung these are the linear nature (there is only one right way to complete missions), the lack of flexibility (I can only remember being asked to make 3 decisions though the whole game), no way of skipping the (interminable) dialogue and not being able save other than between missions.
On the plus side, the graphics (especially the lighting effects) are beautiful, the storyline is good and you do get the feeling of being in a large ship.
Just to address a couple of points raised by other reviewers;
1. I had no problem with the speed of the game at all. There were fairly frequent crashes though.
2. I was able to complete all the missions with the ships provided. there is some strategy needed!

Anyway, now looking forward to the expansion pack.

"The only logical thing to do"

I always loved star trek and that is the exact reason why i never had a very good game to play becouse most of the star trek games are teribble but star trek armada1/2 is an exception. It's truely a great game, it has a full 3D graphiks and excelent game interface, of course there is still place for improvement but the overall picture of the game is very good. The game is suitable not only for star trek fans but also to every RTS games lover so the only logical thing to do is to buy the game.

Poor level design & short game length.

I found this game very disappointing. The demo held promise, but the gameplay in the full version is not up to par. There are two main things that detract from the game: first, the level design is very rigid--you can't explore the levels much and the way to proceed is always very obvious (with only a couple of exceptions); second, the game stops to load every 3 to 5 minutes. I suppose this is good if you forget to save (like me), but it *constantly* interrupted the game. Some other reviews have praised the graphics, but I found them somewhat pedestrian, compared with, for example, No One Lives Forever 2, which was visually stunning. One other complaint is that the game is very short; I finished it in about 9 hours. And much of *that* time was spent wandering around the Enterprise on "information gathering missions." I suppose it would be fun if you like scanning other crew members with your tricorder! Unless you have an unlimited budget for games, you may want to spend your money on something more worthwhile.

It appears that several star trek games are being reviewed together here and this one is for bridge commander. This game puts you in command of a galaxy class star ship at the start of the game. you can give your crew orders by clicking on them and choosing from an options box. your missions are given to you be an admiral who is coordinating efforts in the system of space your ship is assigned to. you eventually get promoted to a soverigne class star ship after you complete the first few missions. you never leave the ship in this game and most of it revolves around skirmishes with varius alien ships. playing the single player mode of this game is like watching an episode of the next generation except without most of the boring sub stories. playing this game was very satisfying and seeing how you fair against some of the ships on the show with the ship of your choice in tactical simulation mode is great. the story although it may sound as if there wouldnt be one with all the ship skirmishes is actually as good as the story or better than the one in elite force.
