AOE1 vs AOE2

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 9 / 11

I have both "Age of Empires 1, Gold Edition" and "Age of Empires 2, the Age of Kings". Both are a lot of fun, especially when you know the "cheats" (hidden commands). AOE1 has more and better "cheats" and more and better built-in campaigns than AOE2, so both are equally fun to play. I almost prefer AOE1 because of more cheats and more campaigns; the additional cheats give you more variety to playing the game, and the campaigns are challenging because you sometimes have almost no units to use the cheats with, so you're forced to use strategy! Both games have their own flaws, and some nice features of AOE1 were left out of AOE2 (example, AOE1: priests automatically try to convert their attackers, AOE2: monks just stand there and get killed.) The graphics are definitely better with AOE2, but I still prefer AOE1 for fun-rating.

The Best interactive Medieval game yet!

This is the best interactive medieval civilization game I have ever played. Below are a few pros and cons---

Pros:
Builds pretty fast. No waiting 10 minutes for a mere peon(warcraft) or s.c.v.(starcraft).

Great graphics.

you dont need to cheat to win the campaigns.

interactive warfare.

wide selection of civilizations.

Cons:

Ummm......

I absoloutely love this game! It's really good,'cos you get to collect resources, make buildings, villagers and military units. And of course, fight off your nasty old enemies at the same time! You can also try and win the game, either by sending a load of troops out, destroying their civilisation,or by building a Wonder.A Wonder is like a sort of monument to your civilisation, depending on what race you are.For example,Egypians have pyramids and Romans have Colosseums.I really want to get Age II soon,so I can play that as well.

More Conveniace for the Age of Empires/Rise of Rome player

If you already own Age of empires and Rise of Rome, you will probably find this more convenient since it has both on one disk. If you werent around for the release of Age of Empires and Rise of Rome, then this is for you. I guarantee you will enjoy having online wars with some of the most historical civilizations, like the persians, romans, and egyptians. Trust me, whether you are completely new to the Age of Empire scene, or are just looking for conveniance, this is for you.

I loved this game. It's the first computer game I have tried and it is a rare occasion I ever watch television in the evening anymore. Rameses II is one of my great grandfathers so I thought it would be a kick to try this one. I am a 42 year old woman and I have to say that this game is a challenge. You have to have quite a bit of patience because you have to do each scenario several times until you actually are victorious, but it is worth the time you spend. My husband rarely gets time on his games anymore because I just have to conquer again. Ha-ha.

This is probably my favorite PC game of all time. After about a month of enjoying the game in single player, I got board. I then discovered you could play this game online against other people on the Microsoft Gaming Zone, where you can join clans, make friends, and just have fun. The multiplayer part of this game allowed me to have a year's more of great gameplay. A great game! I definetely would recommend it!

First there was goodness, then greatness.

Coming on the heels of games like Warcraft and Starcraft my inital reaction to Age of Empires was "Give me a break, not another Microsoft wannabe" but after actually trying the game, I ate crow.

Age of empires in itself is a truly challenging and enjoyable game, good for hours upon hours of building and fighting and building. This is a tacticians game if there ever was one. The attention to detail in this game has proven to be amazing for it's time, the layout of the menus and the overall game system very intuitative and easy to use.

Take that legend of a game and follow it up with the expansion set, "The Rise of Rome" where all the little annoying features are worked out and you are given more races, more deversity and greater challenge. One of the few pieces of MS software I can safely and proudly recomend. This game is a must have. Don't cheat yourself by buying Age Of Empires II, this game is the perfect prelude and well worth the time invested into game play.

Amazing Game!

When I first bought Age of Empires: Golden Edition, I thought that it was going to be "just another computer game". How very wrong I was. This game turned out to be the funnest and most exciting game I had ever played. It is amazing at all of the things that you can do, and is a true strategy game. This game is very realistic, and actually teaches you a little bit of history without you even knowing it (although nobody would buy this game for a history lesson). I say that this game is a must buy, and if I were you, I would get it in a second.

Best of it's kind!

Age of Empires Gold is simply one of the best RTSes ever made. You begin at the dawn of man. You have your primitive cavemen collect resources such as food, wood, gold, and stone. You advance through the ages and make your tribe into a mighty empire. You can choose a different civ every time you play. The 16 civs are Assyrian, Babylonian, Choson(Korean), Greek, Hittite,Minoan, Persian, Egyptian, Sumerian,Yamato(Japanese), Shang(Chinese),Phoenician, Roman, Palmyran, Carthage, and Macedonian.

You can create multiple units, such as catapults, cataphracts, centurions, and chariots. There are many, many more than this. These are just 4 of the hundreds of units they have.

This game has ultimate replayibility. 5/5

Great for all ages.

This one game represents the way PC is so incredible. This came out a while ago and it still is one of my favorites. I find it challenging. Microsoft Gaming Zone is getting really great too so you don't have to worry about it being to complex. You will become hooked and be a quick Real time strategy fan. This one is an Up-All-Nighter for you gamers. If you are into RTS or no... get this game.
