SWAT 3: The Best of The Best

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 3

This game, with it's new Elite Edition addon and the soon coming Game of the Year Edition, has everything a FPS (first person shooter) wants. True, it is not one of those shoot and kill games, but rather a systematic operation of a more "local" range. SWAT 3 is based on urban operations that a SWAT team would do, not the GSG9 or Navy SEALS. You must issue a compliance to suspects, no point and shoot. Main Features: EXCELLENT GRAPHICS, CUSTOMIZEABLE MODS, NEW DOWNLOADABLE MISSIONS and AWESOME MULTIPLAYER CAPABILITY. You will not regret buying this game. As a matter of fact, I am the proud owner of the original SWAT 3: CQB, and I am considering AGAIN buying SWAT Game of the Year Edition, when it is released on October 1.

Great game!

I'm one of those players who stopped playing Unreal Tournament and started looking for something better. See, I got bored with UT and Q3 because all you had to do is aim a few rockets and splash the wall with fire [at]people. So it required very little skill just the most ammo to win.

SWAT 3 is not like that at all! This game is worth the money for single player, but I found most fun by playing online! Setup a ..match or a team ..match, and carefully move around looking for the bad (or good) guys.. One shot ..can take your enemy down... or a few shots..! There is no rocket launcher, so you will have to aim and have skill to win - so if you like winning with no skill, stick to Quake or UT for the most part.

My only complaint about this game is that you have to play on Sierra's network. For the most part it is decent, but I'd like to set my own server up for it...

Buy it, you won't be dissapointed... unless you are expecting Quake with police uniforms.

CLOSEST YOU WILL GET TO CQB!!! FROM A MARINES EYE VIEW

I am a US Marine and have been trained in CQB by DEA, Navy Seals, Delta Force, and alot more other organizations. This is the closest you will ever get besides being in a stack and doing the real thing. The weapons are not some made up [junk] they are what we really use. The terms are the same and the way they move, along with how they perfrom. If you want the best game ever made BUY THIS ONE!

Good gameplay, runs on almost all systems, etc.

SWAT 3 has great gameplay, combined with good controls and a realistic AI. Also worth noting is that the AI enemies are placed in random locations throughout the maps, allowing for more interesting replays of missions (the bad guys aren't always in the same spot!).

Another thing that's worth noting is that the game will run on almost any system (Celeron processor? No problem!). I've personally observed it running at fast rates on fairly old computers that have Celeron processors.

The only downside to the game is its infamous last mission. The last mission tries to force the player to move quickly through the map (due to a timer), in a failed attempt to delay the time that it takes for someone to complete the game. This only results in the last mission not encouraging the player traits that are so heavily encouraged in previous missions: patience and strategy.

Over all, though, it's a great game. I highly recommend that you buy it.

Hmmm.....

It's a great game...but steep system requirements, if you want the game to look it's best that is. BUT, it is a great FPS/counter-terrorism simulation. You don't just cap everything in sight, you sneak, you look, you THINK! Although some of the mission goals are vague, it's all good. I only recommend this game to fans of Rainbow Six & Rogue Spear. You Unreal Tournament & Quake 3 players out there might find this game slow & tedious...

Yo recomiendo este juego de acción y estrategia en 1a. persona. Tiene muchas opciones que permiten hacer de este juego mucho mas agradable y entretenido. Proporciona muchas horas de entretenimiento y es bastante adictivo. Es una buena compra!

Great missions, wonderful setup, but awful action...

I bought 2 copies of the game... one for me and one for my friend. I shoved the CD into my system and installed, no prob. i got into the game, and i began the first mission... there was a realistic voice briefing me and it all was so amazing...until i got to the mission action. the actual action was slow, pixelated, and non-userfriendly. I can understand ther being a multitude of weapons, but having to memorize 12 buttons for equipment alone? also, i found that the levels became disorienting when dark rooms were present. In reality, if you took the mission setup from SWAT and the action from Rainbow 6, you would have yourself the most kickass game ever seen....

overall, i don't recommend this game to anyone... it needs better controls, smoother graphics, and a more detailed storyline.

and no, it is not my system.... i have a Pentium 3, 128 megs, 8meg vid card, and 800 megahertz packed into my desktop puppy.

Great Idea-Flawed Game

If you're looking, as I was, for a Counterstrike substitute, keep looking. Ultimately what kills this game is playability. The game play is not engaging. Graphics are lacking a bit--look at the way that everything LOOKS like a flat surface with a texture layed on it. Ultimately thats not a big complaint though, it looks passable. It's just not that fun.

Little Improvement.

I have played both the original SWAT 3 and the Elite edition. The only real improvement are the new maps they provide. The new maps are great when you first play, but then since you know the area, you can get through it O.K. There are modifications you can get by downloading them. There is a multiplayer feature in which I have not gotten through yet, but it is still a good game to play. You don't need the original SWAT 3 to play. All the missions are still here in the Elite edition. IF you already have the Original SWAT 3 don't bother getting this. Only get this if you want the new missions and/or the multi-player features.

A great tactical combat game!

Buy this game right now. No other commpany could make a better game dealing with Swat tactics. They even brought in Darryl Gates who headed the damn thing up in real life. Awesome graphics and game control.
