Great missions, wonderful setup, but awful action...

I bought 2 copies of the game... one for me and one for my friend. I shoved the CD into my system and installed, no prob. i got into the game, and i began the first mission... there was a realistic voice briefing me and it all was so amazing...until i got to the mission action. the actual action was slow, pixelated, and non-userfriendly. I can understand ther being a multitude of weapons, but having to memorize 12 buttons for equipment alone? also, i found that the levels became disorienting when dark rooms were present. In reality, if you took the mission setup from SWAT and the action from Rainbow 6, you would have yourself the most kickass game ever seen....

overall, i don't recommend this game to anyone... it needs better controls, smoother graphics, and a more detailed storyline.

and no, it is not my system.... i have a Pentium 3, 128 megs, 8meg vid card, and 800 megahertz packed into my desktop puppy.

Great Idea-Flawed Game

If you're looking, as I was, for a Counterstrike substitute, keep looking. Ultimately what kills this game is playability. The game play is not engaging. Graphics are lacking a bit--look at the way that everything LOOKS like a flat surface with a texture layed on it. Ultimately thats not a big complaint though, it looks passable. It's just not that fun.

I don't recomemd you buy it,comparing to Metalgear and...

Comparing with Metalgear solid or Half-life,this game is not good. as:

1) It is slow and boring. 2) The graphy and charactors look more like 2D. 3) The Brief at the begining of every mission is incorrect sometime, for example,it tell you there are 3 suspects, but at the end the report show you've shoot down 9 suspects. 4) As a team leader(player),you give orders ( like "fall in" )to your elements, but they often don't fellow you and walk by themself or stand alone...

Great addition...

We had been waiting a long time for this. We wanted the multiplayer version so bad. In this version comes some great levels even one where you can play paintball games. The only thing I dont like about this type of game is that it is a little violent for kids but its great for a teen or adult who likes the first person shooters.

Great Game

SWAT 3 is a good game. The game play is fun and the graphics are great. It has realistic missions and characters (suspects, hostages). The only thing I really didn't like about it was the crosshairs for the guns. It would have been nice if they included just a plain dot. They have an option where you can choose which crosshair to use, but the dot for a crosshair that they had was way too small for my liking. Another thing that was hard about the game is the gradients. It jumps from easy missions to hard ones. I found myself wanting to bust my monitor, but I decided to take a break before I lost my temper. Overall a very fun game with great scenerios.

Little Improvement.

I have played both the original SWAT 3 and the Elite edition. The only real improvement are the new maps they provide. The new maps are great when you first play, but then since you know the area, you can get through it O.K. There are modifications you can get by downloading them. There is a multiplayer feature in which I have not gotten through yet, but it is still a good game to play. You don't need the original SWAT 3 to play. All the missions are still here in the Elite edition. IF you already have the Original SWAT 3 don't bother getting this. Only get this if you want the new missions and/or the multi-player features.

Awesome game

This game is great because of this...

1)More of a CT unit than a police squad, but still a lot of fun. 2)You can blow people away with an okay assortment of weapons. 3)You can shoot thru doors and blast people thru some walls even. 4)The AI is good, but not great (better than Deus EX or IGI)

This is what sucked about the game...

1)Guns don't jam 2)CS is to powerful 3)The bad guys will walk around sometimes even after you tell them to freeze at gun point 4)Your team members get stuck or won't go where you tell them to sometimes. (even if you're highley repected by them) 5)Flashbangs are a joke in this. 6)The weapon assortment sucks in campaign mode 7)Multiplayer sucks over the internet.

Good gameplay, runs on almost all systems, etc.

SWAT 3 has great gameplay, combined with good controls and a realistic AI. Also worth noting is that the AI enemies are placed in random locations throughout the maps, allowing for more interesting replays of missions (the bad guys aren't always in the same spot!).

Another thing that's worth noting is that the game will run on almost any system (Celeron processor? No problem!). I've personally observed it running at fast rates on fairly old computers that have Celeron processors.

The only downside to the game is its infamous last mission. The last mission tries to force the player to move quickly through the map (due to a timer), in a failed attempt to delay the time that it takes for someone to complete the game. This only results in the last mission not encouraging the player traits that are so heavily encouraged in previous missions: patience and strategy.

Over all, though, it's a great game. I highly recommend that you buy it.

A good solid FPS

Lots of people want those games where you just shoot everything in sight. Some people like teamwork and strategy. SWAT 3 delivers both in a good form. It comes from a more realistic perspective, no health and ammo powerups around the corner guys! It is fairly flexible in single player mode, with 7 different weapons to choose from. You can also get the low down on all of your other gear too! Single player is more teamwork than shoot 'em up. However in multiplayer you can play deathmatches(of course!). Also you can choose from over 50 weapons in multiplayer. The only things wrong with SWAT are: 1. The storyline in single player isn't detailed enough for me. I might be picky though! :) 2. In multiplayer Co-op, after you finish a mission, you are taken back to the main lobby. If you want to do the next mission with the same guys, you gotta set the game up all over again! 3. No game controller support!! ( I have the Gravis Eliminator, and it comes with software you can use so you can use it)

Overall a very good game, but these small problems made me give it a 4.

Oh by the way, my uncle is in SWAT. And he is on the cover too! (No kidding!)

Hmmm.....

It's a great game...but steep system requirements, if you want the game to look it's best that is. BUT, it is a great FPS/counter-terrorism simulation. You don't just cap everything in sight, you sneak, you look, you THINK! Although some of the mission goals are vague, it's all good. I only recommend this game to fans of Rainbow Six & Rogue Spear. You Unreal Tournament & Quake 3 players out there might find this game slow & tedious...
