Rainbow Six - worth every dime and a little more...

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 1
Date: November 19, 1998

With its superb conflict scenarios and excellent graphics, Rainbow Six has truly gone where no game in this genre has gone before. By pushing the boundaries of realism, R6 is definitely the best buy on the market today. No more monsters from outerspace, power-ups and extra-lifes to be picked up on each level, nope - if you catch a bullet, you bite the dust and it may be sayonara for this team member for the rest of the campaign, so you better watch your six. The excellent collection of sound-fx, background sounds and graphical effects, plus the high detail level on various weapons and gear makes the feeling of combat intense and fierce. Never has the feeling of downing a bad guy been so good and liberating, knowing you survived yet again and in multi-player games not having to watch the fight from the sideline. The only reason this game is not rated 5 star supreme ruler of its class is because, this game like all others like it, could have used a little more finish. Minor graphical and AI errors, as well as bugs like being able stay under water for unlimited amount time all in all strips this game of one star. These errors is however cosmetically and does not make the game less fun to play.

So check out Rainbow Six and "Tango Down"...

Enough close to reality action & strategy

Rainbow6 maybe has not the best graphic-engine of all times, but it's enough close to reality to permit yourself to be in the action. A lot details taken from real-life situation and reality in weapons tech-data makes this game a favourite of mine. No frenetic Doom-like action, but skillfully strategy planning is required.

Great game that any age group will like!!

RB6 is a great action game. It requires quick thinking, thoughtful planning, and quick reflexes. You are equipped with everything from door charges to flashbangs. This is the most realistic shooter game yet. Its excellent graphics, great animations and realism make this one of the best games out there. If you ever get bored with the single player, you can go onto the internet, and play agianst your friends. This is a great game that will be around for a long time. Good gift idea.

A spectacular, original, intelligent game.

It's not a strategy game, it's not a first person shooter, it's a fantastic combination unlike anything I've seen before. Rainbow Six is an extremely realistic anti-terrorist game which lets you control teams of people, not just one man, in several first person infiltration missions. It would take a long time to accuratly describe the game, but I think it's enough when I say ORIGINAL. Fantastic multiplayer action too.

The tension in my shoulders didn't dissipate for 3 days

I had played the demo of this game in almost every conceivable strategic combination before getting the full release which I played to completion on the medium skill level over a long night. Most enjoyable, but the tension in my shoulders didn't dissipate for 3 days. This game caught me line and sinker in a way I haven't felt since Doom all those years ago. The quality of the real-world graphics is impressive and has enough attention to detail to keep the spell working (of course a juicy direct3d card is a must). The sound library is extensive, clear and to the layman, quite realistic. The musical score deserves a mention too for it's quality and no. of well appointed tracks. However, my longer term use of the game is limited only to pushing my team intact through the elite skill level every now and then, when my stress needs to be topped up.

THE BEST GAME I HAVE PLAYED

When I started reading the book I knew that I would have to get the game and that it wouldn't let me down. And it didn't. Great graphics. Cool weapons. Challeging missions. It had it all. The only bad part about it is there is only 17 missions.

The realism in this game is unbelievable! Though the single player campaign is awesome, this game shines in multiplayer. There is nothing like turning the corner, seeing the other guy, raising your sights to his head, pulling the trigger, and watching him fall (except maybe when you pull the trigger and nothing happens, which is when you curse and run away while reloading :-). This game is not for the youngsters, nor the squeamish, but for those of you who enjoy a tactical game that's fast paced, this is your thing.
