A shame to our civilization

this game depicks people being brutaly murderd by swat teams. I think that this is not just only the most violent game i half ever played, but its full of bugs that have crashed my computer a few times. I recomend that parents keep their kids away from them getting use to killing people.

Rainbow 6 freezes on even the most updated computers

Excitment, Suspense, and Action all combine in order of this thrilling computer game. As you install this game on your computer in which you have a 3D video card a 200 megahertz pentium processor, 32Mb RAM, over 8 Gb hard drive space, a 24x speed CD rom processor, and a 28.8 kbps modem, you find yourself drooling over the options as you read your manual. You then watch the first scenes in awe that such a great storyline is built in a game, and you think to yourself as you prepare your team of specialists to enter the first mission that this game is too good to be true. Well unfortunately it is. This is the excitment part. Next comes suspense when your computer unexpectadly and randomly freezes throughout the menu and first mission. The suspense is will it freeze before or after the menu? Will you be inside the first mission when it happens? Then comes action. After trying nonestop for 2 hours everything in your power to maximize free resources so this program can work, you pick up your 30 pound computer chair and throw it at the monitor of your computer out of frustration. I am just hoping now that I can get it to work correctly by the time I update the number of MB Ram that I have. I just have to say thank you Tom Clancy for letting me waste $40. I would've been better off burning those 2 $20 bills, the fire doesn't freeze on you half way through the show.

Too Much Planning -- Not Enough Game Play

This was more boring than fun. It took too much time to plan out the missions. And the actual game play with action did not last very long. I thought this game was pretty boring. If you like to plan out your missions it might be fun. But I prefer going straingt to the action.

Hasn't stood the test of time.

When the game Rainbow Six came out, it was praised for being so revolutionary, realistic, and grondbreaking. Unfortunetly, not only were these claims exaggerated, but the game does not look nearly as good now as it did in 1997.

Frankly, the graphics weren't terribly good in 1997 either. Games like Half-Life and Total Annihilation were coming out at the same time, and they still look great today. Moreover, there never was much semblance of a plot, and the AI (both friendly and enemy) is abyssmal.
However, the game is still enjoyable, the levels still unique and well-designed, the weapons (although with the notable exception of the shotgun they all function essentially the same way) fun to use.
Although the original rainbow six pales in comparison to essentially every game that has followed it, it isnt a bad thng to pick up in a bargain bin for some quick entertainment. 5/10

Rainbow Six provides a good mix of action and strategy....

The first thing you will notice about Rainbow Six is it's graphics. While they are impressive the first time around, it will soon become second nature as you get pulled into the addictive gameplay. Offering a great mix of action, strategy, and espoinage, Rainbow doesn't disappoint. After playing through it and beating it, however, i have to admit it has some major flaws. The frame rate can get really grouchy at times, and the action (which is supposed to be very good), is extremely confusing if you haven't studied youre attack plan. A worthy game, though nothing to write home about.

This game is awesome!

I don't know what the other guy is on. This game is sweet and so are the graphics. By the way, It's not one-hit-kills, b/c you have armor. This is both a stragedy game and a doom-type game in one. I thought the only bad thing about this game is the other people. They sometimes get stuck and stuff but you can swap your controller guy to the leader of that group to solve the disputes. Other than that, they're not bad (I could take 'em). Have fun!

Yard Sale Deal

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 3 / 3

I picked this up at a yard sale along with the expansion pack (eagle watch) and the hint book. All 3 items are now bundled as a "gold edition". While it is a few years old, I was quickly amazed by how the real the scenarios were set up. The game itself plays like Thief, that is, hiding and sneaking and taking your shots when you can. If you are used to playing Doom/Quake/Unreal style of combat games and want fast and furios non-stop blowup action this game is not for you. You may have to sit and wait a minute or two for a guard to complete his patrol to line up a shot 50 yards away, only to miss him by inches. The overall graphics and sound are good for the date of this game. There isn't any theme music or background music. If you are near the ocean, that's what you hear... the waves. If you are in a dam, you will hear the deafening turbines spinning, and not the guard sneaking up on you from behind. Well thought out and well executed. As I write this, Rainbow Six 3 has been released and I am looking forward to Rogue Spear and other missions. My only serious complaint of this game is that, on occasion, the A.I. will do some strange things with the targets (like run into a corner and stand silently, instead of fleeing or firing back) Also, from time to time should you fail to meet and objective the mission will end suddenly and you may not understand why you failed the mission. The game simply will inform you that you did not complete a given task. (frusturating)

Short but sweet

OK, most people probably wont take me seriously, when I say: THIS GAME WAS TOO SHORT. Well trust me, when you get this game, you will see what I mean. Although the AI isn't the best, this game presents a great challenge. As you work your way through the missions, you will get caught up in the complex story line, full of twists. This game gets your adrenaline flowing. Choose your anti-terrorist team from a list of experts, your weapons, your gear, and make a plan. You can send one team of your strike force around the back of a building while you storm the front, or do any number of other plans. This game was EXCELLENT. While it is a great game though, I can't give it five stars, because the AI has room for improvement, and because it is too short.

Rainbow Six/----->

Rainbow Six really brought me into computer gaming. Before I never played games on computers. Now that I've played and owned this I play this and Rogue Spear, (the sequal), all the time. The game really brought a new setting to all gamers. Your free in the enviroment, the action is intense and challenging, the terrorists are out and dangerous. Everything is perfect. It's like your there. The game has great graphics and non-stop action. It's intense and you sit on the edge of your seat the whole time. The weapons in this game don't have the great collection like Rogue Spear does, but once your in the setting your weapons don't matter that much. If you like first person shooters or any swat team type of games than you'll like this. It's a classic. BUY IT!

Rainbow Six - worth every dime and a little more...

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 1

With its superb conflict scenarios and excellent graphics, Rainbow Six has truly gone where no game in this genre has gone before. By pushing the boundaries of realism, R6 is definitely the best buy on the market today. No more monsters from outerspace, power-ups and extra-lifes to be picked up on each level, nope - if you catch a bullet, you bite the dust and it may be sayonara for this team member for the rest of the campaign, so you better watch your six. The excellent collection of sound-fx, background sounds and graphical effects, plus the high detail level on various weapons and gear makes the feeling of combat intense and fierce. Never has the feeling of downing a bad guy been so good and liberating, knowing you survived yet again and in multi-player games not having to watch the fight from the sideline. The only reason this game is not rated 5 star supreme ruler of its class is because, this game like all others like it, could have used a little more finish. Minor graphical and AI errors, as well as bugs like being able stay under water for unlimited amount time all in all strips this game of one star. These errors is however cosmetically and does not make the game less fun to play.

So check out Rainbow Six and "Tango Down"...
