Revenge of Drancon

Wonder Boy must save his girlfriend from Drancon, who has held her captive.

Game Gear is probably the most enjoyable handheld system commonly available, because its full-color graphics are on a decent-sized lighted screen. And the Adventure Island games are among my favorite platform games. This game was originally released to arcades, and on Sega Master System, as Wonder Boy. When released for Game Gear, in the United States, it became known as Revenge of Drancon. But when ported to Nintendo systems by Hudson Soft, it became known as Adventure Island, and the blonde-haired Wonder Boy became the dark-haired Master Higgins.

The game is a run-and-jump platformer, in the same class as Sonic the Hedgehog or Super Mario Bros. Guide Wonder Boy through woods, oceans, islands and caves, defeating bosses at the end of each 4-level world. Defeat Drancon, and save the day for Wonder Boy's girlfriend.

This is one of the greatest games ported to a hand-held. Definitely a classic.
