Awesome game!

This game is just awesome! The graphics are high quality and realistic, the gameplay is good and it is overall very fun! I enjoy playing in Sandbox mode where I can make train tracks all over the US. The downside is...you have to tell each train what cargo to tow and it takes some effort to find 2 cities that have demands for each other...
Also your trains can break down, there can be robbers, the cities grow and you can build your own map! The fun is endless!

So much charm and fun....

I write this after owning and playing Railroad Tycoon II and Railroad Tycoon III extensively. To be honest, I like RRT II better because it has a certain charm to it graphically. It is very well presented and works fine. The only thing that would make me recommend RRT III over II is the micromanagement can be a bit overwhelming in RRT II. The third game takes care of a lot of this, but at the same time, takes away some of your abitlity to manage your railroads effectively. All in all, I would say if you are playing on a laptop, go for RRT II and if you are on a desktop with a decent graphics card, then go for RRT III. Railroad Tycoon III is a very beautiful game in its own right, I just prefer the art style of Railroad Tycoon 2 :)

I thought this game was a great tycoon game. The best in fact. Except...there is so much you need to micro-manage in this game. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong - I might not have figured out how to do it automatically - but you need to set certain cars to each train each time. So if you have a passenger car set to go from Washington to Baltimore, and there is some lumber that can go as well, it won't get ship unless you click on it. I prefer RT3 because it will ship this automatically, yet you can still chose what you want to ship if you need to get certain supplies to a factory you own. I just found that to be a little frustrating. But overall, its a fun game.

Try RRT3

This is a classic version of an even more classic release, Railroad Tycoon 1. If you like more sophisticated 3D graphics, though, then try RRT3. The graphics are just amazing and the play even more variegated and fun.

This game is very fun, but you never get enough money. And it is SO boring while you wait for your funds to accumulate!

My 11-year old son loves this game, which he bought last week for 1/2 of the recommended price. This game will work with Windows XP Home Edition but may have to be run in Windows Compatibility Mode.

I remember my old 80486 DX2 66 Mhz and one my first games (with Civilization and Centurion) was Railroad Tycoon.
I really loved the idea of establishing a RR company from the beginning and laying the first tracks...
Well, this game perfected and adapted that old version while adding some new features and scenarios.
You can now play all over the world and on fantasy worlds as well.

My favorite scenario is the European where you have lots of territories and the scenery is complex (connecting Italy with Germany for instance).

You can play alone and accomplish a set of goals by a certain year or you can play against AI opponents.

I really like the game and the tutorial helps you get through most of the important things...

Excellent Follow-on to Railroad Tycoon!

If you had the privilege of playing the first version, you'll love the second. (Even if you didn't - I think newbies will like it as well). The graphics and gameplay are updated and look much more realistic. The strategy and simulation effects, while not perfect, are extremely well thought-out and implemented.

A nice feature is the "sand-box" mode for those that don't care for the excitement and complexity involved in the business side of things. It makes the game much more enjoyable for younger children. The scenarios with "medal rounds" are a nice added touch to fullfil those competitive urges.

Overall am excellent strategy and simulation game. My compliments to PopTop Software for an excellent sequel!

Railroad Tycoon 2 Platinum Edition... Something for All!

This game has everything! In this business simulation, you will become a tycoon. You will use all of your wits to outplay your opponents, and in the end you will (hopefully) outwit them all! In order to succeed, you will be required to make key decisions that will force you to evaluate the importance of particular items to particular places. You will not have enough money for everything so you will be forced to evaluate the importance of each city. Do not be fooled, the big ones are not always the best. And, you will need to invest and play the stock market.

I found this game to be addicting! Once you begin, you will fight to stay in control of your company. The games have levels that are really easy, and as you become more and more of a tycoon, there are more challenging levels ahead.

I also play Roller Coaster Tycoon, and this game is a MUCH better business simulation game, because you actually play the stock market! Lots of fun, you will play for hours and never bore...

All aboard!
