I want a refund!

This game has a lot of problems. The track-laying tool is so unwieldy as to be almost useless in steep terrain. There is no help facility (you have to go to the manual), and no "undo" tool. You can only run 6 cars per train. If you want a car to stay with the train, you have to re-enter it at every station. The program emphasizes business/money aspects, not operations or engineering. To succeed, you have to deal with non-railroad aspects such as investing in other companies' stocks. Try Zoo Tycoon instead.

Not enough money

This game is very fun, but you never get enough money. And it is SO boring while you wait for your funds to accumulate!

Railroad Tycoon 2 Platinum Edition... Something for All!

This game has everything! In this business simulation, you will become a tycoon. You will use all of your wits to outplay your opponents, and in the end you will (hopefully) outwit them all! In order to succeed, you will be required to make key decisions that will force you to evaluate the importance of particular items to particular places. You will not have enough money for everything so you will be forced to evaluate the importance of each city. Do not be fooled, the big ones are not always the best. And, you will need to invest and play the stock market.

I found this game to be addicting! Once you begin, you will fight to stay in control of your company. The games have levels that are really easy, and as you become more and more of a tycoon, there are more challenging levels ahead.

I also play Roller Coaster Tycoon, and this game is a MUCH better business simulation game, because you actually play the stock market! Lots of fun, you will play for hours and never bore...

All aboard!

My 11-year old son loves this game, which he bought last week for 1/2 of the recommended price. This game will work with Windows XP Home Edition but may have to be run in Windows Compatibility Mode.

Fun but...

I thought this game was a great tycoon game. The best in fact. Except...there is so much you need to micro-manage in this game. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong - I might not have figured out how to do it automatically - but you need to set certain cars to each train each time. So if you have a passenger car set to go from Washington to Baltimore, and there is some lumber that can go as well, it won't get ship unless you click on it. I prefer RT3 because it will ship this automatically, yet you can still chose what you want to ship if you need to get certain supplies to a factory you own. I just found that to be a little frustrating. But overall, its a fun game.

So much charm and fun....

I write this after owning and playing Railroad Tycoon II and Railroad Tycoon III extensively. To be honest, I like RRT II better because it has a certain charm to it graphically. It is very well presented and works fine. The only thing that would make me recommend RRT III over II is the micromanagement can be a bit overwhelming in RRT II. The third game takes care of a lot of this, but at the same time, takes away some of your abitlity to manage your railroads effectively. All in all, I would say if you are playing on a laptop, go for RRT II and if you are on a desktop with a decent graphics card, then go for RRT III. Railroad Tycoon III is a very beautiful game in its own right, I just prefer the art style of Railroad Tycoon 2 :)

Still number 1!

If you have Railroad Tycoon Gold, there is no need to buy this one. There isn't anything new except for a few new maps. That was disapointing to me. But if you have neither of the previous Railroad Tycoons, this game is by far the most entertaining game I own.

If you like economic type games, one that tests your skills in owning your own business, then this is the game for you.

Also, the stock market effect in this game is awesome. Very good game and one that is addictive.

The graphics are excellent and the levels of difficulty are fairly easy to down right impossible.

If you do not have this game, I highly reccomend it!

Fantastic

I first played RR Tycoon 2 Platinum at a friend's house and was hooked. This is a game that gives you the player a realistic and challenging railroading experience and at the same time does not overwhelm you with details. The scenarios in this game are fantastic, the only problem I have is that you can't build tunnels or stone bridges in the 1830's for the 1st scenario with the B and O. Other than those small problems this game is great!

A definite must buy!

This game is about almost all of the aspects of running a railroad empire, you build stations and lay track that connects them, then you buy a locomotive and decide(depending on circumstances) what cargo to haul. You have a LOT of locomotives to choose from(steam, diesel, electric) and about 28 cargo cars, a diner and a caboose. However, this game does not neglect the financial aspects of running a business. There is what we can call the second part of the game- the stock market. It can make or brake you and your company. You can buy out a company or be taken over, or you can earn cash from dividends. For those people who are not entirely excited about stock market, the game gives you an option to turn OFF most of the aspects of the stock market.

A definite plus for parents concerned about the violence in today's video games, I can say with confidence that YOU CANNOT KILL anyone in this game. Nobody can die or be killed, no cussing occurs and blood is ever spilled. For some people it is a plus. For me it is a great relaxant to see trains chugging from station to station. ...things.

Great strategy & lots of fun

A thinking man's video game. Lots of strategy, good graphics, engrossing. No one dies, but there's plenty of violent business competition. My 10 year old loves it and is learning the principles of economics too.
