Serious 3D fighting Gone Wacky !

Just from the Title, one who is familiar with the state of fighting games on the saturn can tell that this game is a tad silly. The name refers to the fact that Saturn has three "remix" fighting games (maybe more I don't quite remember). These include Virtua Fighter Remix, Toshinden Remix, and Toshinden URA (I don't know what URA Stands for so don't ask), all of which are slightly changed remakes of older games. Fighters Megamix is in the true sense of the word a big sloppy mixture. Specifically a mixture of Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter. There are eleven Characters from both games, and 10 "hidden" Characters from various other sega games, but I won't tell you what they are, that would ruin the suprise. In short, it's kind of like Sega's 3D version of Marvel Versus Capcom.

The gameplay, like the character selection, is an odd mix of fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter. In the options mode you can either choose to play in Virtua Fighter mode, a sort of strange amalagamation of mostly Virtua Fighter and some moves which make use of the walls that apear in fighting Vipers with a lack of ringouts in other levels, and fighting vipers mode, where everything plays almost exactly like Fighting Vipers except fo the ocasional level with no walls.

The game itself is divided into four modes. First is one player mode, where the player chooses a course consisting of 6 opponents and a seventh "secret" boss. There are 9 courses in all each with a theme of it's own such as the Fighting Vipers Course (all fighting vipers) the girls Course (all female opponents) the Muscle Course (all heavy hitters) etc.. By completing a course, a secret is unlocked, usually a "hidden" character (this reminds me alot of Tekken 3). The Second Mode is Survival mode, where the player is given one life and a time limit and must defeat as many consecutive enemies in a row as he can. You can choose between a 5 minute game, a 10 and a 15 minute game. Making records and beating certain scores in these various games unlocks secrets in the option menu. The next mode is for pure fun, The VS mode, this is where you can set up a fight with the computer or a friend, set the rules and many other options. Playing this mode unlocks very few secrets. The final Mode is the Training mode where the player can practing performing his moves on a dummy character. This training mode is much more interactive than training modes in other games of this type as the computer will show you all the moves one at a time on the bottom of the screen and test you to perform it, in otherwords, press the correct sequence and the game will give you a bing noise and change the move being shown. There is one secret in volved in this mode.

All in all this game will keep you occupied for quite a long time and the sheer amount of variety in characters raises the replay value exponentially. But what's best about the game is the wacky feeling you get from the odd assortment of hidden characters which starkly contrast the serious looking Characters of Virtua Fighter. Many of the hidden characters are just plain silly and some of them are harder to use than standard characters. I highly recommend this game to all saturn owners who have just a mild interest in fighting games

The Best 3-D Fighter For The Saturn! Buy It NOW!!

The title of this review pretty much says it all, with all 11 Virtua Fighter 2 chacters(who have been given VF3 moves)& all 11 charaters from the first fighting vipers plus BOTH fighting engines from the games this would have been worth the buy. IT GETS BETTER!!! 32 backgrounds, Amazing graphix, Lighting effects, hidden costumes and 12, yes 12 hidden chacters!! (NOTE:there may be 13 but I've only unlocked 12)thats 34 charactors in one 3-D fighter!!! Now that is more incentive to buy right? IT GETS BETTER STILL. A large variety of songs for the backgrounds, hidden options, a training mode complete with moves lists for the initial 22 characters(:(sorry none for the hidden fighters:()a team battle mode ala VF2 and finally no cheep virtua fighter ringouts!!Add cage matches and this becomes a very intence fighting experance! The down side, while some of the best graphix to appear on the Saturn it still suffers from the occasional misssing pixel during the win poses(pretty much every 3-D fighter on the system does), and a few of the backgrounds (3-5)do have some slight(and i do mean slight)slowdown problems. Once you play the game for about 10 minutes you really don't notice any of this. As stated before The Best 3-D Fighter For The Saturn! BUY IT NOW!!
