I have never played the first Hitman but I wanted to give Hitman 2 a try for $19.95. I am still playing it after several weeks now and actually its a fun game. The graphics are good and the gameplay isnt bad either. Shooting people with "ballers" is particularly fun cause they fly back about 10 simulated feet when hit. (Satisfying!)
Good sniping scenarios and some close in stuff that requires a little thought as well.
If you are looking for an entertaining game without dropping half a c-note, this is a good choice.

I just got this game with my new sound card, and I have to say I can't stop playing it. The graphics are by far the best I've ever seen. The same goes for the audio and the gameplay in general. Let me put it this way, if I was stranded on a desert island with only one thing, it would be this game. Just holding the cd would be glory enough.

I completed the last level of Hitman 2 last night and I am convinced that this may be one of the best games ever. Unlike simple FPS games that allow you to simply run through each level blowing the crap out of everything, I like the fact that you can accomplish most missions utilizing several tactics/strategies. In some levels (i.e. Basement Killing)I chose to carry my Sniper Rifle. When the opening scene ended, I was left standing in a cubicle holding this large and useless weapon only to be instantly pursued by the AI stationed throughout. I tried several times to make that work, but it did not. I tried the level again, carrying only my 9mm SD and I whizzed through the level collecting weapons along the way as needed.

I enjoyed the graphics and the storyline as well. The overall feel of the game caused me to believe that this was a major programming effort and after viewing the credits - I gained a greater respect for game programmers and their efforts to raise the bar for gamers of all ages.

The Soundtrack and Vocals were outstanding!! They added a nice "ambiance" to the game and allowed myself, the father of 2 energetic children who always want juice, sandwiches, candy, etc as soon as I sit at my PC, to relax as I thought out my next move.

I've played other 3rd person strategy/RPG in the past and "Hitman 2:Silent Assassin" has been the best!!!

Big WOW

I haven't played the first Hitman, but am very impressed with this game. I'm a huge shooter game fan (Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix is another great game in this category), and was a little rusty on not killing everybody (haven't had to be stealthy since Thief 2). Even after you get the hang of staying hidden, this game is very challenging. I don't recommend it for somebody looking for a game to relieve stress and blow people away. However, if you want an addictive, challenging game that tests your gaming skills, this is a must buy.

Very good game - poor on remaining stable

As I have progressed through the game it has gotten more stable. In the beginning it crashed on start up - had to restart several times to get it to start. Then when saving - crash. Then on loading saves - crash. It doesn't crash your OS - just the game - thankfully. At level 6 it has gotten much better. The game does bog down and run slowly at times - my system is a 900mhz with 256 RAM -

The game itself is intersting in that you don't have to be Rambo to get through a level - but you can. When you get done with a level it rates you - which can be humerous. On one level I killed everyone, just to not have to deal with any surprise attacks and it rated me "mass murderer". On another level I only killed 3 people and it rated me "professional". So, getting the target without killing many other people is the object to get a good rating. But some of the levels have snow - which is REAL difficult to shoot through.

All in all - good game - but you'll have to do some work on the .ini file at www.eidos.com under support- to get it to work better plus there is already a patch available. When I loaded that it seemed to work a little better.

Have fun and don't kill everybody!

A Step Down

I may be the only one to feel this way, but I found that "Hitman 2" didn't live up to the quality of the original. The first game was unique in style and execution, and scored extra points simply for the stealth/subterfuge aspects. Both games limit the player's freedom significantly, but it's hard to see how this could be avoided in a game supposedly about stealth.
Unfortunately, I felt much more limited in the choices I could make to complete the missions during "Hitman 2". In almost every scenario the game forced the player into a narrow variety of paths, leaving little freedom to concoct his/her own plan of attack. Basically, to complete the mission, the player has to perform "guess-and-check" actions until he/she discovers one of the few "correct" ways to proceed. This was more true in "Hitman 2" than in the first game.
Personally, I strongly disliked the (slightly) greater emphasis on story in the sequel. First, in the voice-over it was a ridiculously bad decision to give #47 a Sicilian accent. He went from sounding cold and calculating to sounding like a ridiculous parody of "Goodfellas". The character was originally a soulless, personality-free machine of a man with no real history, and I didn't like how he was suddenly allocated a whole slew of morals. Basically, he became a stock "hero"-character.
"Hitman" was a solid game, and "Hitman 2" delivers many of the same perks as its predecessor. Unfortunately, nearly everything that sets this game apart from the first is a step backward.

No direction, lots of walking

There's no real guide or help in deciding what you are suppose to do in some missions, and no explanation of scoring... can I still win if I kill everyone? (you have to go online to read that you can, but what's the reward for being stealthy? - nothing just a note at the mission end that says so.. hmph) If you want to be stealthy, be prepared to sit and watch your guy walk through desert and snow for hours.

Don't get me wrong, if you enjoy 'Thief' or sneaking around like in 'No one lives forever' it is a fun game, and it has its moments - just needed to balance all the rave reviews with some reality.

A Fantastic Game

Quite simply, Hitman 2 rocks. In fact, this is the best 3rd person action game I've played in quite some time. Heck, it's one of the best all-around action games I've ever played! My biggest complaint was that the game had to end eventually. So, what's so good about it?
· Hitman 2 offers a variety of missions that can be tackled in various ways. Do you want to break into that heavily guarded enemy base stealthily, or would you rather just mow down everyone in sight with a very large gun? Not only can you do both, but neither the stealth mode nor the action mode suffers from one getting more attention than the other.
· The game employs some of the best physics I've yet seen (even if they are purposefully exaggerated in a John Woo sort of way). Shoot a man sitting in a chair, and he'll go limp and slowly slide down in the seat until he plops right off the chair. Brilliant stuff.
· The weapon selection rocks. You can use everything from a katana to a street sweeper to dispatch your foes. Stealth kills (best used with your strangulation wire) are hard to pull off, but exciting.
· The game's missions get straight to the point. They never last a moment longer than they need to, and they never get frustrating.
· Level designs are remarkable. You will penetrate hospitals, military barracks, Japanese castles, skyscrapers and much, much more.
· The storyline and characters are compelling. The game's cut scenes have a very definite cinematic quality, and the orchestral score is pretty darn good too.
· Hitman 2 isn't exactly easy per se, but it's never frustrating. This is perhaps the best thing about the game. You very rarely wonder what you're supposed to be doing.
· Replay value is high. If you completed a mission through sheer acts of merciless brutality, then you inevitably wonder how it would have gone if you'd been subtler. And so you end up playing the mission again... and again... and again.

I could go on and on about the game's good points, but that doesn't mean we're looking at a perfect game. There are problems. For example:
· Sometimes enemy guards catch on to you far too easily. You could have killed an enemy soldier, stolen his clothes, hidden the body, and gone completely undetected, but some psychic you stroll past will sound the alarm. Annoying.
· Hitman 2 has a tendency to cheat. For example, sometimes when you kill an enemy soldier, a message will flash across the bottom of the screen warning you that the guards have found their slain comrade and are now looking for any suspicious persons. Fine - except for the fact that you killed this sentry two seconds ago, and there aren't any other guards in sight.
· The game's interface and controls are all pretty well-handled, but turning quickly to face an enemy approaching your backside is far too difficult. You generally get shot in the back several times before you can successfully spin `round to face the opposition. This is due to the insensitivity of the mouse, even at the highest sensitivity setting.
· Enemy AI could have been better. Most baddies will just charge you blindly, even as you fire into them at will. This coupled with a map that shows you every guard's position, and even the direction they're facing, makes you a little on the unstoppable side.
· Mission objectives are usually clear, but it's generally unclear whether or not the people around you will be hostile until you've gotten face-to-face with one of them. For example, in the last mission of the game, there are several hitmen that look just like you, and are even dressed in the same dark suits, but if they so much as look at you for a second, they'll open fire. Doesn't seem logical.

All in all, Hitman 2 is a game that I couldn't recommend more highly, particularly to those who enjoy more intelligent action games. Don't miss this one.

Final Grade: A (or 5 stars)
