Awesome and no more price gougers!

This game was a mega sleeper hit for turn based strategy/RPG fans.WHile the graphics were nothing to right home about the depth to this game was unmacthed by any other in its genre. This game was in limited supply and sold out fast and price gougers here were fetching upwards of 200 dollars for a new sealed game.Unlike many gaming companies,Atlus took a big risk on behalf of its faithful and decided to rerelease this game to combat the gamers being price gouged to obtain a new copy.If they printed too many new copies they could have taken a heavy financial hit.If you have had interest in this series do get this game while its back at an affordable price.Atlus didn't have to rerelease it and could have left us stuck paying 200 dollars to gte it.I say we reward Atlus not just because of what they did but because this is one of the best turn base strategy games you can find on the marekt. While part 2 improves on game play it doesn't match the first in terms of its classic humor and cast of character.Get your copies before it sells out again and the leeches push the price back up.I wish more gaming companies would do this to crush the profiteers price gouging business.

A gallant try.

But the characters are too small on the screen, multiple views during combat still dont show certain angles that are needed, and the cuteness level of the game is way more than I thought it would be and too much to play for long periods of time. Rent it first before buying is what I should have done and I would have saved 50$. Otherwise the game is good but just not a good or large enough interface.

The Best!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone who doesn't like this game is either an idiot, senile, or dumb. Don't listen to the idiot who gave this game 3 out of 5 stars down there. The Geo Panel system is not hard to understand if you listen to the tutorials, ass! Besides, the Geo Panels are a miniscule part of this wonderful game!

Wonderful graphics, an entertaining and often funny story, a great soundtrack, a whole schmorgasborg of side-quests, plus a brilliant fighting system make this work of art a definite platinum-class game!

Probably the best thing about this game is the fighting system. It's basically the FF Tactics engine, but with everything fixed and then some. You get to execute individual commands without having to end your turn, you get an awesome combo system which adds an extra level of strategy that'll have you relishing your carefully planned attacks every time, you get awesome magic and special attacks for each character, and of course the Geo Panels add that little oomph that's a welcome change to this type of RPG.

Another plus is the Master/Apprentice system where you can learn magic and special attacks from enemies you've beaten by making them your underling. You can either amass a huge-ass army of minions or power up a select few. There's so much you can do in this game it's unbelieveable. You can literally spend hundreds of hours leveling up your characters, your apprentices, and your items. But the leveling up is actually fun! I've played so many RPGs where I dreaded leveling up my characters just to fight the next boss, but in this game I WANT to level up my characters. It's so hard to stop sometimes because there's so much you can make your characters do in battle.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that you can level up any item you have by going inside it and defeating the monsters that live in it. There are a hundred levels in each item and each floor is just like a regular battle. The monsters get harder as you go further down, but the item gets stronger, too. And you can level up any item from simple health drinks to powerful weapons and armor. It's way cool.

It really is remarkable that someone could actually make a game this fun and with so much to keep you entertained. Any Tactics fan or RPG fan or any gamer for that matter should definitely own this masterpiece.

Too early, but i try to give ppl a hint..........

well, what do we know about this game, almost nothing eh? but i do have been looking for information and pics. and the whole idea is like an advanced Final Fantasy Tatics. why is it advanced? because knowing that Final Fantasy Tatics was a real good game and it was on PS1 imagine what it will be like a Final Fantasy game for PS2, the 2d graphics will look better, and the animations i bet it will be better too.....of course the story is different, but the fight are pretty much FFT. so i suggest to all the FFT Fans to buy this game........or peharps at least look for information about it.

Let me just start by saying that I have been a huge Disgaea fan since the beginning. I preordered this game at a local Gamecrazy. To be completely honest I had five bucks left from a purchase and I just told the employee (a friend of mine) to put it on an RPG that would be coming out soon. I bought it the day it came out, not knowing just how incredible this game is. I took it home and played it, for what felt like an hour, but what really was six.
The plot was hilarious. This was the first game I had to stop playing so I could stop laughing. There is a point in the game where the player's team has to fight a team of Power Ranger-ish do-gooders and the "prizm rangers" go into a fancy formation, stating their names and such. Mid-flourish Etna, the cynical anti-servant of the hero, pulls out a handgun and caps the yellow "prizm ranger", dropping him instantly. Both the "prizm ranger"'s and Etna's response is priceless, I'll leave you to hear it. Hilarity aside Disgaea is also very moving emotionaly. You won't miss anything in this game.
Graphically Disgaea does exactly what it is meant to do...*hears from the reviewers "OMGZ!!1 WTF?! They'r all leik...flat! That suxors!1"* It's a tactical RPG and I don't expect it to break current physics engine limits. Would it be nice to have 3D effects? Sure. Am I going to knock the game because it doesn't have them? Nope.
Now let's talk about gameplay: I gave it five stars for a reason folks. Combat is done on grid based battle fields of varying sizes. Units take up one or more square on the grid and each unit has attacks, magic, items, and everything else you attribute to the traditional RPG. On the hero's team you deploy units from a central square at a predetermined location on the map. Your units can be a huge variety of classes. Fighter, archer, thief, ninja, skulls (male wizards), witches (female wizards), samurai, and more. Classes improve as you level which is reflected in a change in title and better advancement capabilities (better stats and weapon skilks). While we're on the subject on advancement let me mention the massive level cap...or lack there of. You can literally level characters to level 10,000 and higher, then "Reincarnate" them down to level one with partially reduced stats to do it all over again and make a living, sword wielding, power house. Due to a neat plot design that states all items have a mini-universe inside of them with people and worlds. You can go into items and defeat the people inside, master maps, and make the items more powerful by 'leveling' it which increases its related stats accordingly (swords get more attack, armor gets more defense, glasses give more accuracy).

All in all, you have to play it to believe me when I say: if you like tactical RPG or RPGs in general you will love Disgaea: Hour of Darkness. I can sum up every detail of this game and still only touch on it lightly. It's when you play the game and see how the plot, the characters, the combat engine, the graphics, the voice overs, and the replayability interact that you truely appreciate this game.

It made me cry

This is the most amazing game i have ever played and yet I am not done with it yet. I have had this game since 2003 and I've been playing it on and off since then. After three years of playing I had a serious file on my memory card. Then in this past year my memory card was left in a friend's room and it fell in the trash can. I cried. This is by far the most amazing game I've ever played (sorry for being redundant). From the humorous storyline to the huge job system and the nigh-flawless gameplay this is definitely a great addition to any RPG lover's library.
