Don't Let the Teen Rating Scare You....Good for Kids!

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 68 / 72

This game is classic! I just bought it, and it cracks me up. The humor is a little off color, hence the Teen rating, but it isn't anything worse than cartoons kids would see on Saturday mornings.

The graphics and sounds are good, and somewhat realistic. The game centers around Jake the dog, whom you direct to complete various tasks to collect bones. The jokes will crack adults up, and kids will like the running around as different kids of dogs.

The key to the game is smell-o-vision, where the view switches to first person and now smells are visible as colored clouds. You need to collect different colored clouds to compete in challenges, like tug of war and peeing competitions! Once you win a competition, you can then play as that breed of dog (e.g. chihuahua, mini-doberman, husky).

At $20, this is s a great game for kids and adults.

Great!

This game is great I just got it and it is very fun. The game is also fun for kids just don't listen to the teen rating. The game is very funny and the levels are huge. The game is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. There are 3 areas with levels. I'm not sure how many levels there are in an area but there is like 40 levels total. The main thing you do is collect bones. You get to interact with people and sometimes do something for them like finding something for them or doing tricks for them, you also get bones for doing something for them. You can also enter smellovision mode that is first person and you collect different color smells that look like clouds. When you collect enough of the same color smell you get to compete with a dog like peeing contests or races etc. Sometimes you have to compete with the dog more than one time but if you complete one challenge with the dog you can control it and do things that Jake can't do. You see Jake's girlfreind got kidnapped and now he has to save her. When you collect enough bones in the area you get transported to another area. You can also do tricks like poop, fart, pee, sit etc. Oh and sometimes when you collect enough smells you get a bone. The cutscenes have really good graphics and so does the game, the dogs look realistic, but the graphics aren't the best but still good. I recommend everyone to get this game.

Alright, to get started, many of you people out there have probably never heard of this game before. Well, that's probably because of the lack of coverage it's getting. Personally, I think this game is pretty good (not the best but far from the worst).

You play as a dog who's friend has been dognapped and it's up to you to find him. You travel through around 40 different levels each getting progrssivly harder as you go. Along the way you can collect bones for diffent items to aid you on your quest. In total, I think, there are 150 bones to collect. You can also interact with many of the diffent townspeople you meet over the different areas. There is also a feature called smell-o-vision that puts you into a first person view mode. In this mode, you "smell" different scents that are displayed as different colors to find hidden items. You can also perform different dog tricks such as lay down, sit, shacke, and the more imature of moves which i will not mention but let's just say you can use these moves to mark teritory (if you know what i mean).

The presentation of Dog's Life (and by that i mean graphics) is nothing spectacular but they are good none the less. The fur on the dog moves with the different motions that you make him do. The textures are simple and look pretty good but again it's nothing too exciting.

This game is fun but a little too easy and sort of short depending on your level of skill at video games. For instance i'm sort of a hardcore gamer and have played through this game in a couple of hours (maybe 2) but for someone with less skill it will take a little longer, and even though this game seems like it is advertised to the younger crowd, the older audience will get a kick out of it as well. It's no huge challenge but it is a good, fun, game to play.

Overall, i think Dog's Life deserves an 8 out of 10 for it's gameplay and fun factor but not for its actuall itensity. For people that want a masivly large challenge, look elsewhere, but for people that want to sit down and play something for a couple of hours, Dog's Life will certainly keep you entertained.

I am glad I bought this game

I bought this game for my daughter, who is a dog lover, for Christmas without her asking for it. She absolutely loves this game!!! I was a little hesitant on buying it since it had the teen rating but after reading the reviews of others, I figured I was pretty safe. The worst the dog does is goes to the bathroom. I could never understand why my kids liked to sit around and "watch" other kids play games. However, I actually enjoy sitting down and watching my daughter play this game. The dog (Jake) has tasks to complete in order to collect a bone as a reward. The tasks are complicated enough for young children to feel challenged but not too complicated as to they get frustrated and give up. I would like to see other animal versions come out as well.

Fun, amusing game.

I am a teenager, and I really enjoyed this game. In Dogs Life, you control a dog, Jake, who is trying to find his friend. If you win some of the games, you can control another dog for a limited amount of time. Here are some of the pros and cons of the game:

Pros:
*easy to move Jake around.
*if you are bored, you can always collect smells
*you can meet and talk to different people
*you can use or not use a memory card and it is fun both ways

Cons:
*is not really that inappropriate to be rated teen
*you sometimes have to find items for someone like eggs or batteries and that can get a little tiresome.

Here are some cool hints for you!

1. If you want to get clean but there is no groomer around, just go back and fourth into a river and keep jumping into it. You don't get as clean as the groomer's but it works.
2. At the chicken farm, to get the papers the guy want. use the bulldog and go into the chicken coops.
3. In a race against another dog, if you get behind, jump forward and get ahead.

Really Fun

((This is actually Barb's daughter, but I'm over 13 so I didn't want to use the kid's review form...))

This game is really fun! I just got it today in the mail, and I was plesently surprised, when, after a few hours of playing, it showed that it's not just one of those you can beat them in two hours kind of game. Of course, everyone's level of video game playing is different, but so far I'd guess I'm only 1/3 of the way done. The missions aren't impossible or frustrating, except sometimes if you don't know where you are, and you can always choose not to urinate (and the like) if you don't want to.

The controls are easy to use, except for maybe the different 'special' type combos, but those are soon memorized. The 'smell-o-vision' is a key factor in the game, as I think it's been mentioned before... Once in this mode, you collect different colored scent clouds, and also, sometimes there will be a glowing pillar of light; I'd suggest checking those out ;).

Depending on the number of bones you have (which you receive by completing missions and the like) different dogs will react differently to you. If you have less bones, the dog may act aggresive, and you might not be able to get into some nifty spots. But if you have more bones, you are the dominant dog, and thus the other dog yields to you; usually. As long as you have a good number higher bones than the other dog.

All in all, I'd give this game a 5 out of 5 stars; it's really fun!

*A few player-to-player hints; to get clean, you can just take a swim, then climb out of the water and shake off. A few shakes, and you're as good as new! Or, of course, you can just go to the Poodle Parlor, or other places like that, though I'm not sure where or what they are, if there are any...
And make sure when you're searching for scent clouds, you look ALL over, and I mean everywhere. You never know where they might be :).*

I'm 13 and i bought Dog's Life 2 days ago. I played it 4 about 3 hours, and completed it in a day!!! theres not much 2 do when you finish the game, apart from collect smells??? and find bones u mite have missed.
THE TEEN RATING IS COMPLETLY WRONG the worst of this game is the peeing and pooing but honestly, kids get that on saturday morning tv shows!!! the graphics are ok, but not great, and the dog is very lovable.

Gud points:
* you get 2 play as a really cute dog
* you can go wherever you want, no boundaries!!!
* you get 2 pee and poo everywhere (what other game lets you do that!)
* you get 2 chase chickens!!!! hahaha

bad:
* graphics are a bit bricky (the peoples mouths don't move when they speak?????!!!!!)
* how many times does this dog get hungry!!! you have 2 feed it about every 3 seconds!!!!
* very crude humour for younger kids, but apart from that it's a GREAT GAME!!!

Great Game, Great Graphics, Fun!

This game is fun for everyone. Dogs life is fun and exciting. You get to explore around like a dog in three huge levels Clarksville, The Alps, and Boomcity. Your objective is to find and save Daisy, because she has been dognapped by two guys working for miss Peaches for some mysterious reason. You also have to collect bones to get respect from other dogs. To earn bones you can do various tasks for people. Smellovision is fun too. Smellovision lets you collect sents and smells. Some smells offers you to race againt the neighborhood dog or to get a free bone.
In conclusion Dogs Life is really fun with geat graphics, exciting story line, and loads of suprises! I would recomend this game for people who really like dogs.

Dog's Life is a game for animal lovers, no doubt. the gaphics are so-so and the humour is cringy, but apart from that it's a pretty good game. the teen rating is totally wrong, and this game is great 4 kids, apart from the cringy jokes.
The dog is cute enough (not as cute as my dog) but the people look like torn out pieces of cardboard of a cornflake box. easy gameplay (took me a day 2 complete) and is chalenging for younger gamers i suppose. I think the teen rating is only because of the dog can pee and poo and fart (eww gross)
overall though a cute, decent game suitable for under 13 year olds I'd say.
