I bought Full Spectrum Warrior for $20.00, so it's cheaper than the usual $50.00 for newly released games.

I finished the game in about 2 days of steady play. After completion you are awarded 3 bonus epilogue missions. I have not completed these missions as of yet.

There are 2 squads, Alpha and Bravo.
Both squads are made up of a Team leader, rifleman, grenade launcher and SAW (squad automatic weapon)

You can direct each squad (A & B) and switch between the 2 using the Triangle button. You can't control an individual squad member as far as movement, only the entire squad.

The object of each mission is similar, flank and out maneuver various "terrorists" set in the mythical country of Zekistan. (see Iraq) It's obvious the bad guys are Muslims because of the odd chanting back ground music in the game.

Moving the 2 squads gets very tedious after awhile. This game is not a conventional shooter, it's more about strategy really. Sticking to cover is the best way to beat the game. Moving a squad in an open area is a great way to get a team member killed. The death of 1 of your squad members is a failed mission and you go back to the save point.

Save points are pretty consistent, move around take out some terrorists and you get a save point. Also in the game are various Casevac areas where a wounded soldier can get healed and you can restock on ammo.

The graphics are sub-par at best, but the CG intro and exit movies are good. Control of the squad is complicated but once you get the hang of it, it's kind of fun to move around and out flank a bad guy. On a couple missions 2 Delta Rangers join your Teams as squad "Charlie" They have laser equipped sniper rifles and quickly kill any terrorists in your way. Advice to anyone, use the Rangers and save alot of time. The accuracy of the normal Alpha and Bravo squads is inconsistent. Either the shoot a guy way far away or miss someone 10 yards in front of them. The best way to avoid getting killed is to stay behind cover at all times.

The 1 hour intro training game, called MOUT, is recommended before playing real missions. Maneuvering the 2 teams requires a learning curve.

So all in all, this is a strategy game, not a flat out run around and shoot stuff kind of game. The environment is closed and there's not much room for movement or exploring, the missions are linear, so replay value is somewhat low.

It seems from my mediocre review that I didn't like the game. The playability factor is good, it's fun to play, and requires a little thought instead of just fast hand-eye coordination. I liked the realistic dialouge filled with cuss words. I think real soldiers probably talk like that.

"Attention Bravo team, Move!"

"That's a kill"

*** out of *****

This is a War / Stratetgy Game... Not for everyone.

A word of warning for future buyers of this game: "Don't buy this if you're not a wargamer or a military strategy / tactics freak."

This game is all about tactics and its correct execution. It actually reminds me of the Close Combat Series in the PC (a top-view RTS game where you command World War 2 squads via mouse-pointing and setting their behavior). Because of technolgical advancement, we now have a 3D Close Combat game in the form of Full Spectrum warrior.

Like close combat, the goal of the game is proper positioning. What makes the game more challenging is keeping your men alive. Once someone dies, the game is over. The controls may not be intuitive at first, especially when you're used to First Person Shooters. But there are actually 5 training missions where you can practice them. Think of it as controlling the game with a mouse -- with the X Button acting as the Left Mouse Button. I think this will help a lot in understanding the controls. My only gripe about the controls is that the cursor does not pass through obstacles which makes commanding a pain sometimes.

The game mechanics are great as it forces you to THINK of ways to outflank the enemy while under fire without losing any of your troops. Brute force does not work in this game, as even one enemy can withstand the full firepower of your squad as long as he is entrenched properly. And charging head-on without suppression fire or smoke is suicide.

Graphics is so-so. Although I think that Pandemic's Star Wars Battlefront for the PS2 had great graphics, this game falls short. The backgroud is kind of bland and flat most of the time. I guess they have to compromise between map size (maps in the game are large) and detail because of the PS2's limitation. Troop rendering is good enough, but not as elaborate as SOCOM or Borthers In Arms.

Sound is also average. Gunshots don't sound as convincing as Brother In Arms. Although you can hear some of your troops wise-cracking once in a while, you'll sometimes get annoyed as they also do it at the same time you are recieving a radio message from HQ. This makes it difficult for you to understand the HQ message.

Conclusion:

Gameplay-wise, I guess this game is a treat for the wargamers.
Gaphics-wise, it's good enough, but I've seen better.
Sound-wise, same as above. I've seen better.

Again, I'd only recommend this game for hardcore wargamers who does't care about graphics and First Person Shooters.
For those who wants a great First Person Shooter with squad tactics and great graphics, you'd be better off picking up SOCOM. I'd also recommend Brothers In Arms (which I think is the best among the lot) but the game is not for everyone as well.

Atrocious

At 15 bucks, you'd think this game would at least be worth trying out -- it's not. Save your money and go buy 3 extra value meals instead. I'll give you the big gaming innovation for free:

1. Establish a base of fire
2. Flank left or right
3. Repeat 18 million times

Here's the problem -- you can do the same thing in the "Conflict" series of games, or in Brothers in Arms, and it's a lot more fun for a couple of reasons.

1. In those games you get to participate in the action, while in this one you just move your fire times through from one incredibly obvious pile of boxes to the next. It's as boring as it sounds.
2. In those games your base of fire elements actually kill people who stand up and run around. In this game, your elite soldiers can't hit an enemy standing 30 feet away with his entire torso exposed. You HAVE to find an "exposed" flank. This is profoundly irritating, and I would usually just solve the problem by tossing a grenade at the bad guy and getting it over with.

Long story short, this game is crap. It's boring, it's unrealistic, and it's major innovations are already incorporated into other, better games.

less like war, more like battle chess..

If you buy this game hoping to go out on the battle field to kick some ass like the Terminator you will be dissapointed.

I really liked this game. It has a chess like strategy to it. You control 2 (4 man) teams (sometimes a 3rd team) and you have to position the teams correctly and use the right weapons to succeed. If you have patience then this is a good game for you.

Yes, the enemies are much harder to kill then in real life, but they had to make the game challenging. This game teaches strategy that can be applied to real life or other war video games

When you first put in this game, the cutscenes are incredibly realistic and stunning. Not only are the cinematics done with beautiful backrounds, models, colors, and a great sense that you're really in this war, but the sound voices are perfectly done during the introduction of the characters. The game really does provide an excellent first approach to suck you into this
experience.
However, I couldn't wait after the cutscenes to see how the gameplay was set up. Unfortunately, this is where the creators really dropped the ball. What kind of a war game is it if you can't shoot? When you can't run by yourself? Also, the gameplay gets utterly repetitive, moving quickly from hiding spot to hiding spot, shooting attacking enemies. As soon as you start, the controls will feel so awkward and it'll take a while to learn. Last, I don't enjoy the fact that the game doesn't even have a tutorial to teach you the controls. When you are supposed to be hunting down all your targets, chances are, you'll be completely clueless as what to do. This game has a great presentation, but not the gameplay to compete with other war games. However, while it isn't so terrible all around, it at least deserves a 3 out of 5.

This game sucks!!!!!

This has got to be the worst game I have ever played. They used false advertising. It said Shooter as the genre. YOU DONT EVEN AIM OR SHOOT THE GUN. You tell the 8 soldiers you control to shoot the bad guys but they cant even aim good and they dont shoot unless you tell them to. Even if they are going to die they dont shoot. You cant even walk around you tell the soldiers where to go. Also on the box it says its based on a army training thing. I thought it would be a action packed shooter because thats what it looked like on the box, but I was wrong. There is no action at all, you just move around while you see a couple bad guys who just wound half your guys. I rented this game from Blockbuster, went home and put it in my PS2, played it for 25 minutes then brought it back to Blockbuster. If all US army soldiers trained on something like this the US army would be the worst army in the world.

If you want a realistic war game buy this one. It is a really good game. It reallys shows what its like in a war. The missions just heaped one on top of the other. It is hard because you don't actually shoot but that helps addto the realisticness because you can't just kill a guy and live forever. To beat this game you have to have either alot of strategy or be really lucky. Do not let an eight year old get this! There is alot of cussing and it probably isn't good for young kids to see peoples brains getting blown out.

This game "Full Spectrum Warrior" is a very well designed, fun, strategic game. As you can see this other person who left a review "Joey", this guy who sounds like a 6 year old has not one clue what he is talking about. Sounds like this kid thinks the game makes you try to think to much. Probably sucks at the game. Well anyway back to the game: You play it in 3rd person view. This game takes place somewhere in the middle east. In it you control 2 squads of 4 soldiers in each squad. To move you have like a cursor on the ground and you can position your soldiers against walls, behind cover etc.... That is the key to this game "COVER" You can't just unrealisically run into a group of 20 heavily armed enemy soldiers and take them all out, which this kid Joey probably thought he could do casue he has no sense of brains. "Duh duh, im gonna kill some bad guys, duh duh, i'll kill them single handed duh duh." Nah, real life doesn't work that way and this game doesn't work that way either! You might be asking yourself "Hey! Why does this guy hate that kid Joey for writing a review?" Well i'll tell you why, because 6 year olds like that should not be allowd to write bad reviews about great games that regular gamers would love. Ok, anyway back to the game and the realism. Cover is the main concept. You have to move from wall to wall and cover to cover. You usally have to get to corners of walls and there is a special postion to place your troops in against a corner. So the team leader looks out from the cornor and will tell you if there are enemy which you can see yourself. You have many options to do. The enemy is useally in trenched and behind cover himself, so thats why that idiot was saying they weren't hitting him. This is where brains and stratagy comes into play. With one squad you lay down surpressing fire on the enemy to keep his head down and with the other squad, go through ally ways and flank the enemy taking him out easily. That is another key in this game (Using the 2 squads to work together) It seems simple but it gets harder when the enemy has RPGs and 50. Cals. This one part of the game I was at, I made a mistake and went to a bunch of sand bags for cover and I got pinned down by a heavy machine gun and my squad couldn't move so I needed to move my other squad around on the enemys flank(with the help of a smoke gernade) and I took him out reliving my Alpha Squad. GREAT GAME!!!!!! Great graphics and a realistic enviorment (by that I mean if you take cover behind a car and the enemy starts shooting at you the car windows will get shot out and bullet holes all over the car and the tires will flatten) anyway so for people who have brains and great challenge and love for strategic war games, this is the game for you.....great price too!!!! :-) Trust me, you'll have a lot of fun with this game. Oh and there is a great story to the game. Oh and there are online multiplayer games.

this game is a waste of money, you would expect a game with as much hipe as this to at least be moderatly entertaining i was a huge fan of socom us navy seals and this was supposed to be better i played it at my friends house and we were clueless you cant even move your charector you direct it with a cursor thats the 1st of many awful things about this game secondly you cant shoot for your self you can only suppress who buys a war game to sit and watch seriously youd have to be a die hard fan to even but up with this game i tryed so hard to like but it was so tiring i eventually got the hang of moving the man but he says the same thing over and over i have never been more bored in my life this game is a pathetic equse for a war game if u want a high quality war game i recomend socum us navy seals 1 and 2 which involves tactics as well as all out war fare. Lastly you cant kill an enemy you can just supress his i thought 4 high trained soldiers could take out 1 third world merciary well they cant they all die in a pixelated shower of blood
