the Spirit of vengence rides again !!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 12 / 14

I loved the ghost rider film. it was well cast and the special effects were fantastic...and it had a well written story.. action packed fun! the first marvel film of the year and its raising hell..(this film is wayy better than daredevil)

fast forward to the ghost rider the game based on the movie..all i can say is..awesome! first, its a original story written by the series writers so you are in for a treat... second the graphics are quality playstation 2 fare..one thing though..why didnt they also release this for the playstation 3 and xbox 360? the action is a intense..a high quality "button masher" and the levels where you drive the hell cycle are incredible..

for you newbies out there, the ghost riders story is basically put , you are hell's bounty hunter out to defeat the demons loose in our world..while fighting to save your beloved roxanne(johnnys long time love) but once you make the pact with the devil your soul is his..and you have to become the spirit of vengence at night dishing out justice...

the game plays like god of war(only without those annoying mini puzzles) if you ever played g.o.w ..you know how to play Ghost rider..so it will feel natural. i dont know why some people are ripping on this game sure they used the GOW engine it makes perfect sense, but its done in the mighty marvel style..and its very entertaining...oh, and the rider looks awesome..the flames and details are done really well.. and the rider has thar same demonic voice.. if you liked the movie..grab this game..i had to go to 3 stores before i finally found a copy...

Ghost rider, has some insane attack moves as well as all his famous weapons from the comics..including the hellfire shotgun(johnny blaze's weapon of choice if you read the comics..you know what im talking about) ..and the famoue CHAINS(love these) add to that you also have the rider's famous penance stare. if you dont know what that is..the penance stare is when ghost rider captures you then looks you dead center in your eyes and enflicts on you all the pain and suffering you have caused people in your life..and you usually go insane after that..but in the game it is also a incredible super combo move.. which is a nice touch...

this game is a great stress reliever after work thats for sure..(i get a kick out of the move where ghost rider yells "come here!" and pulls the demon to him with his chain and does a incredible finishing move)

also you get to unlock lots of hidden goodies such as the comics, making of, and a few surprises..

the movie, is a hit( cant wait for ghost rider 2) the game is top notch, dont listen to those negative reviewers check this out for yourself.. and burn some rubber and kick some demon butt with the spirit of vengence... its a wild ride...

side note, ghost rider was one of marvel's b list characters until the smash hit 1990s series put him back on the map. and he now has a movie.. now marvel is working on a live action Moon Knight television series..and someday hopefully a movie and a stellar game. its a great time to be a marvel fan.. nuff said.

Surprisingly Good

This game is surprisingly good. The controls are very similar to "God Of War" and are easy to learn. Some levels are combat-driven and others are manuevering around on your bike. The game is definitely a button-masher as there is no puzzle solving whatsoever but it moves along at a good pace and the combo moves are easy to learn. Leveling up is easy (and again very similar to "God Of War") as you collect souls to purchase items as you go. The plot of the game is a bit thin and probably only fans of the comic series will really know what is going on but the game is less about plot and more about action. The look of the game is less than stellar though, while the main character looks good as do most of the backgrounds, many of the enemies are very generic and you'll see the same ones repeatedly. The fixed camera angle can prove problematic at times and if there are multiple characters on screen simultaneously, there can be a few pixelation issues. Overall though, the game is fast paced and addictive. If you are a fan of this type of game you're likely to enjoy it.

This game is a must buy if you are an old fan of ol' Flamehead. Plays similarly to God of War. THe riding sequences are fun and intense and there are plenty of old villians from the series that will leave you with a sense of nostalgia.
MUCH better than I was expecting.

My 7 year old son loves this game. He saw the movie and thinks the game's special effects are great.
Fast moving action and lots of fighting.
Please make sure that your your child does not play this game for longer than 1 hour per day. The fast moving pace and fighting can become very addictive.

we purchased this for our grandson because 1. he loved the movie 2. flaming skulls, zombies and motorcycles are a huge interest for this 9 year old. his 6 year old brother has done well on most of the levels but it is not designed for his age group because a more advanced skill in reading is required to advance in the game. but they both say it is one of their favorite games so far.

Acceptable...

First of all, let me tell you I love comic books(I'm more of DC fan, though)! This game is okay. It can get extremely repetitive and that is the most major flaw of this game. Another flaw would be the difficulty. It's waaay too easy! I have beaten this game twice already (and I did it in one weekend)! The graphics are okay and the voice acting is pretty cheesy. The best thing about the game are the extras. You have a bunch of comic books in the game and you have a lot of sweet costumes (and characters) to play as. Sadly, there really is no need to play with these costumes or characters because the story mode is pretty pointless. The final negative thing is there is no level select!!!! It drives me crazy how a game that is not open-world (oh by the way, this game should've been open world.. think about it) cannot have a level select. There is no excuse. Other than the things I mentioned, this game is okay. Acceptable, as the title says.

Very fun game

This is an EXTREMELY fun game. The graphics are fantastic, and the variety between attacking on foot and riding the motorcycle is perfect. I think my only complaint is that some of the demons you fight get a bit monotonous after a while, but it is still a lot of fun and much better than a lot of similar games out there. I've heard others complain that this game is too similar to some others but, as I haven't played those others, all I know is that this game is just visually cool and simply a lot of fun to play. Highly recommended.

Vengeance Flows Through Me!

Normally, games based on movies tend to be a bit lacking, but Marvel does tend to do a decent job with their's (The first "Hulk" being the exception there). Ghost Rider falls into that niche of being decent, and maybe even a bit of a fun game.

The game starts off after the movie, with Johnny using his powers for good, and refusing to be Mephistopheles' little errand boy. But the Rider is dragged into Hell, and is told that he's the only one that could prevent Armageddon and send an army of rogue demons back to Hell. Once his girlfriend, Roxanne, is threatened, Ghost Rider reluctantly hunts down the demons and prevent the end of everything.

The game borrows a lot of elements from games like God of War and Devil May Cry. Tends to remind me of Evil Dead: Regeneration, also. Once you get all the moves unlocked, the fighting becomes the highlight of the game. The combos can be easily triggered, and it's fun to see Ghost Rider use the variety of finishing moves for the elemental demons, and using his signature weapons and abilities (His chains, the Hellfire Shotgun, and the Penance Stare). And the Boss battles, I thought, were very challenging (for some reason, I really enjoyed fighting against Scarecrow). Plus, one of the unlockables has you playing the entire game as Blade. That's so damn cool!

The game does fall short in a few areas, too. The motorcycle stages can be a lot of fun, but at times hard to control. And another thing. The game... can be finished in 3 and half hours. I bought the game last night and started playing it this afternoon and I finished a half hour ago. Sure, there are additional characters (Blade, Vengeance, Ghost Rider 2099), but I don't know if that would make the game have that much higher a replay value. And the game's cinematics were basically comic frames, no CGI movies.

One thing annoyed me little, one of the unlockables had pics from the movie, but one guy was absent. No pics of Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze, and none of Ghost Rider. Why? I mean, he is the star of the movie, right?

Overall, I'd say the game makes a terrific rental, but only hard core fans of the comic, movie, and maybe just Marvel alltogether should buy it. The game is fun, even if it felt a bit rushed.
