5 Stars to Red Octane for helping Withrdawl Symptoms

I loved it, being a child of the 80's this set has my favorite songs of all of them. Yes, I squeled with delight when I saw Skid Row & Poison (maybe admitting this doesnt look good). Anyway like the game states, it's an 'encore' edition. I wasnt expecting a whole lot of new characters, themes etc., so there is no dissapointment on my end.

Loved a few of the new sets, the rainbow look made me laugh.

Worth the $50.00??? Heck ya!

Guitar Hero II part deux

This game is pretty much Guitar Hero II with half the characters dressed in 80's clothing and different songs. There's two fewer venues to make up for having ten less songs.

I wouldn't recommend this unless you are really tired of the first two installments and can't wait for Guitar Hero III in October.

It's fun and a solid game, but I'm not sure it's really worth $50.

Not that great

Dissapointed by the amount of songs, was really surprised when in the 6th level the game was done. Also, there are no songs to buy in the store what so ever. Didnt really like the songs, but that is pretty much how i felt about the other games. Otherwise, was decent. Would get it as a gift but wouldnt spend my owm money on this game.

What a disappointment

This game brings nothing new to the table. It is nothing more than a rehash of Guitar Hero 2 with only 30 songs. Guitar Hero 2 boasted over 60 for the same price. The game delivers on only one front - it features the same gameplay as Guitar Hero 2, complete with the excellent co-op mode and very helpful Practice Mode. The intro animation, the unlockable instruments, all of the backgrounds, and a fair amount of the art was lifted shamelessly from Guitar Hero 2.

I would recommend this game only to people who love 80s music. Fans of the genre will be disappointed by how little this title offers for the price.

Very dissapointing

I would have to say to anyone interested in this game, borrow it from your buddy. Like most people who where interested in the game I had to rush out and get it. It has 30 songs in it that were ok. I woul have to say there were only a few songs that I thought were great but not enough to want me to keep the game. I beat it in one weekend and traded it in. The game is no where near worth the price. You can't buy any songs, you can buy one extra character "grim" but I would have to say the original grim reaper looks much better than the one here and in Guitar Hero II. You can buy several guitar skins but who is really looking at the skins while you are playing the game anyway.
All I can say is disappointing for the price, now if they offered the game for maybe $20 bucks this review might be a little nicer, but it is missing over half the goodies from the first game! Again just borrow your buddies, or better yet rent it for a few days. There aren't any songs that are really worth keeping the game for. Hope this helps.

Expect New Music, But Not Significant Changes

This game is worth buying if you're looking for a change of pace in song options, otherwise its exactly the same as Guitar Hero 2. There was definitely so much more that could have been done with this game- its apparent that its creation was rushed just to release it sooner. For example, the venues, characters, guitars, and other features that can be unlocked are identical to Guitar Hero 2. Overall, I recommend this game to any Guitar Hero fans interested in a different music selection, otherwise the new features (or lack thereof) may be disappointing.

GH Addict is disappointed

This game only comes with 30 songs, not a lot of thought behind the notes on hard and expert, and paying the same price for this game vs. the others is just not worth it. I've played both GH1&2 and beaten both and still love those games, but some of the covers really didn't sound like I expected, and why oh why did they change the key of I Wanna Rock?! That's the song to sell this game and its not even right. I'm very disappointed in this release and going to watch more closely before I buy another GH game.

Guitar Hero Encore: Rock the 80's

I was sorta peeved at this game. It appears that Harmonix was just trying to get a Ghero 2.5 out to hold the fans over until #3. If you are a fan of 80's Pop music this Ghero is for you. I however am in to metal. Encore served up a good dose with Iron Maiden - Wrathchild, Dio - Holydiver, Judas Priest - Electric Eye. There are no new gameplay features. At the end of the single player When I went to spend my cash on new songs, I was abashed to find no unlockable songs atleast on the PS2 version.

Overall this will probably be the least played Ghero game, Don't pass it up if you are into the 80's pop music or just want a small dose of Metal from the 80's.

Boring songs

Besides the complaing about the price and lack of...well everything, my biggest complaint is that the songs on here, may be fun to listen to on the radio, but are super boring/annoying to play. Besides "Only a Lad" "Play with me" and a very few others these are just really strange choices. I mean Flock of Seagulls? Come On! Shouldn't that be on Keyboard Hero or something... I had to turn off "Because it's midnight" I was so bored with it.
I've played Guitar Hero, and own Guitar Hero 2, and if you don't own the latter, GET IT. Totally awesome. Tons of songs, super fun to play. Really great.
Anyway, here's to hoping Guitar Hero 3 blows me away.

More Guitar Hero 2...

This is pretty much exactly what I hoped it would be: More songs for Guitar Hero 2, and - for me personally - songs I like better and songs that seem to be cooler to play. So that's great.

The bad news is that this game has exactly the same flaw as Guitar Hero 2: When you get stuck on a song, there isn't a good way to move on. I just blasted through the first 20 (or so) songs on expert mode and only had to repeat 3 or 4 of them. No problem there at all. And then, all of a sudden, one of the songs I just could not get through. Not sure whether it is a balancing issue, actually. It might just be that it is a song that for some reason is hard for me (and might be easy for others). But in any event: I now probably spend 3/4 of my time with this game on this one song that I do not like and cannot do. And I have no way to get passed it, since I have to complete it to unlock more songs. This very issue means that you might end up spending the vast majority of your time with this game on a song you do not like. Bummer.

Other than that, this is the same Guitar Hero that we have come to love. It is a great game, and in the big picture, the issue I describe above is not a deal breaker. But I wish they gave me a few wildcards or perhaps unlock one more track after I tried 20 times, or something like that, to remove the frustration...
