Encore = More of the Same

Guitar Hero easily is one of the most famous games out there right now. With its unique controller and the ability to Rock like a Rockstar, everyone can get into it and become a Guitar Hero. The franchise continues in Guitar Hero Encore: Rock the 80's. The song selections are good, but not great; there are a few other 80's songs I believe could have been added to make it better, but the included ones are not bad by a long shot. The gameplay and set up is much like that of Guitar Hero II, if not exactly the same, which is a relief since II has a better Multiplayer function, especially when you have two people playing who do not have the same skill level.

I think the biggest disappointment with Rock the 80's is the lack of things to unlock. The characters you start out with are the characters you have for the rest of the life of the game; beating the game doesn't get you any special guitars or songs.

Understand that this game is still fun and the music is still great, but if you are looking to buy just one Guitar Hero, I would leave this one off your list; the replay factor just isn't there when there is nothing new to strive for.

Guitar Hero takes over the 80's

This is an excellent game, I love the 80's music and the combination of Guitar Hero and this music merge perfectly. There is no many differences between Guitar Hero II and this one but the music worth the try. If you are into the 80's music you will enjoy this game

LOVE IT!

I am an over-30 year old mom who has never enjoyed video games, until now. This game is super fun, all of the Guitar Hero editions are fun. Guitar Hero is the best video game EVER!!! It is always fun, but definitely better playing face-off with a friend (or one of your kids!) so buy 2 guitars!

Let's Call This Game What it is....An Expansion Pack.

I have the first 2 Guitar Hero games for PS2 and was excited at the prospect of an all 80's installment. But this game ultimately falls flat for a couple reasons. First it seems like they didn't put any effort into this game whatsoever. All the venues, menu screens, and character outfits are identical to Guitar Hero 2 with some minuscule tweaks. In fact, they took options away from GH2 in that there are fewer characters and, as far as I could tell, no additional outfits to buy.
Now let's talk about the track list. Pitiful. 30 songs and that's it. There were a couple of good songs to choose from like "Holy Diver", "I Wanna Rock", and "Ballroom Blitz". But for the most part the track list is extremely disappointing considering the fact that we are talking about 80's music, an era that has no shortage of great guitar songs. That's not even mentioning the fact that many of the songs are painfully bad covers, and just plain don't sound good.
There is no question that this game is an expansion pack, plain and simple, and paying $50 for it is outrageous. At MOST, I would pay $25, that's if it's brand new, and not in some pre-played bargain bin.

Only 30 songs, gets old quickly

I was really looking forward to this game as I'm in the 80s generation. But, the 30 songs just aren't enough (especially when you compare it to GH1 or GH2 with nearly double that). I found that in the first day of owning this one, I had mastered (on Medium) all of the songs. It got old quickly. I can't say that for GH1 or 2.

Good, but too expensive

This game is just as fun as Guitar Hero II. It also looks a lot like Guitar Hero II. As a matter of fact, it's the same game as Guitar Hero II, except with different songs and costumes. There are fewer characters, no bonus songs, and very few unlockables. It's pretty much the PS2 equivalent of an expansion pack. I'm not a big fan of 80's music, either, but when you play a song on Guitar Hero, you tend to like it better than if you'd just heard it on the radio. So, it's great, but it's the same price as Guitar Hero II, which is ridiculous, because you get half as much as you do from Guitar Hero II. Unacceptable. But if you can get it cheap, do it.

These people are NUTS. BEST SETLIST!

This game is overpriced, but seriously, DLC on the newe games is 1.99 or more per song, so this isn't bad. But the setlist is top notch, and I don't need to unlock new characters. It is an encore pack, overpriced, but totally worth it! Wrathchild, Electric Eye...

Must Play for Guitar Hero players

This game is really an expansion pack of Guitar Hero 2. Has some good metal songs: Bang your Head, Round and Round, Balls to the Walls, 18 and life, Seventeen, etc. But, too many of the songs are obsecure (for the 80's) songs. Why did they choose a Scorpions ballad and Radar Love by White Lion?

Were the developers of this game born in the late 80's. They definetely should have included Cinderella, Motley Crue, Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode, and Guns N Roses.

Also, I still dont know why the couldnt license more of the original songs. I doubt WHITE LION, Ratt, and the Scorpions are so wealthy they would have turned down free money.

Still, it is a must own game for all Guitar Hero Players. ROCK ON, DUDES.

Could have been better.

I love the GH games to death, though I was admittedly a bit disappointed with this one. It was obviously just an expansion, but all they really did was add a few (and I stress the word few) new songs, and did a little twist on the colour scheme of the UI. They REMOVED characters and added VERY tacky outfits to them (yes, I know the 80s were tacky but these outfits were just POORLY designed).

They didn't even remove/change any of the guitars so it was a bit weird to be playing a game set in the 80s but still using the same exact guitars.

The only other problem that I had with it was the store. Since they removed things, you have all this extra money at the end that you don't know what to do with! LOL I was somewhat amused.

Guitar Hero Encore Rocks the 80's

I highly recommend this game to those who love to rock out with Guitar Hero and those who love the 80's. If you are a die hard fan of Guitar Hero like me, then you will buy this game just because it's an opportunity to play new songs. This game invites a new generation to the game and lets them see just how awesome (and somewhat challenging) the game really is, they wont be laughing when they are missing all the notes that you breeze by. I'd say the game is more difficult compared to the previous 2 games but that makes it even more awesome. So overall I say if you like Guitar Hero, get the game.
