First, the aiming system has been changed to select most dangerous targets first, and not the closest ones. I don't know about you, but IMO this resembles real-life more closely than just targeting whoever is the closest to you.
Second, yes, the rampages are simpler, but the missions more than make up for the simplicity of those. Plus, only the auto-aiming rampages are easier - using rifles is still difficult, and aiming a rifle in Vice City is actually harder than aiming one in GTA3. I'd say the two balance each other out.
Third, if you don't understand the concept of a "theme", please don't remark on things like fonts. Fonts are fine, and serve the theme perfectly.
Fourth, map is probably difficult to read if you're dyslexic, but that's hardly the fault of the game.
Fifth, there is a concept of "memory" and gta makes great use of it by not loading everything; instead, it loads things as it needs them. Ergo, loading screens when you go in and out of hideouts and other interior locations, like buildings. It's either that or no interiors. And I can just imagine how many people would have been whining if there were no interiors in the game. Be a man - loading time is barely two seconds.
Now, let's discuss the delicious additions:
1. At least four new motorbikes, each with fairly accurate physics and ridiculously fun control. The game could have consisted of only riding a dirtbike in the city and would have already deserved at least 4 stars.
2. Helicopters, that don't take a surgeon's accuracy to fly.
3. Diverse, vast interiors. Yes, those have loading times, but they're less than two seconds long
4. City at least twice the size of Liberty City
5. Soundtrack that makes the GTA3 soundtrack pale in comparison (as excellent as the GTA3 soundtrack was)
6. Throng of new weapons. You haven't seen a game until you've held a chainsaw in your hands
7. Missions much more diverse than the GTA3 missions
8. Guest voices (Miss Cleo's character is hilarious)
9. Aiming that resembles real life much better
10. Significantly more realistic citizens that gather in groups, talk to each other, etc...
11. Cops that don't just chase YOU
12. Continuing in the excellent tradition of GTA3, with subtle crude humor, such as calling the dirtbike "Sanchez"
13. Tire damage. This may seem like a small thing until you're running away from the cops
14. Melee weapons can now damage cars

Finally, Rockstar never wanted you (as in, the gamer) to get the idea that this was GTA4. They've openly admitted that this was more like GTA3.5, as most of the stuff the game uses is from GTA3. In my opinion, they've FAR exceeded that goal. I love GTA3, but Vice City just makes it pale in comparison.

P.S. You didn't get Godfather III - you got Scarface instead, and Scarface eats the Godfather series for breakfast.
P.P.S. This isn't just a pun - check out Diaz's mansion.

new gta. can't wait.

August 2002: Rockstar does have a lot riding on them with this new GTA, considering that 3 was such a success. So if this new one is anything like 3....oh man. Then this game is going to kick some major...b. . . =P I am ectastic about it; I cannot wait!!! It looks freaking great by the packaging image, which is taunting me....

December 2003: To update this review, now that the game is out and I have played it many, many times, I must say that it is everything GTA3 was and more. Better weapons, better transportation. If you liked GTA3, you will, no doubt, like this.

I thought grand theft auto was fun at first but after you beat it a few times it like the same darn thing over and over again. Then it just becomes one of those shoot'en up kinda game instead of all the action, the game gives you when you are doing all the crazy and insane missions for people the guy dosent evan know. But from what i heard gread theft auto vice city has awsome grafics and evan better cars and guns. And it also takes place in the 70's from what i head from other reviews. so i give it a 5 star rating for it awsome game play and all the new editions from the last game(grand theft auto 3). so after this review i hope you all go out and get a copy of Greand Theft Auto Vice City. And thanks for reading my review.

A month or so ago I got GtA3 for the PC. I loved it. This looks great. Only one problem its only for ps2 I only own PC and Xbox. I bet it will come out for PC or Xbox later but I don't wanna wait a year after it comes out to get a copy for PC or Xbox. It's Ps2 only for a year or 2 until they make a PC or Xbox versian. This might tempt me to buy a PS2 which I can easily afford. I'm a serious 11 year old gamer you loves 1st person shooters. I also argue tremendously that it doesen't cause violence. It dosen't cause violence. GTA3 is great for ages 7 and up.

Vice City is the follow-up to 2001's GTA III. GTA III was one of the best video games ever created, and now Vice City extends upon that legacy in an admirable way. Vice City is a fresh way to play the GTA series, but right off the bat, it is easy to see why Rockstar didn't call Vice City GTA IV. The styles between Vice City and GTA III are astonishingly the same. So, if you are a GTA fan who is hardcore and looking for a brand new game, you won't find that within Vice City. However, most people won't be this stingy, and if you are a casual GTA gamer like me, you will get as much enjoyment out of Vice City as you got out of GTA III, and probably more. Let's start at the basics of the game. Vice City does take place in a whole new city, Vice City. Vice City is much more colorful than Liberty City, with fancy neon lights and a tropical landscape. Vice City is based on Miami, Florida, and the entire game will look very much like Miami Vice or Scarface. Vice City also moves to a new time period, the 1980's. This is an interesting feature, and it makes the game even more fun. The city seems very much like a 1980's city, with pimps, beautiful women, hot cars, pastel-colored suits, and neon lights. Another feature to Vice City is that you can go indoors in several different areas, and now you can own properties, which were not options in GTA III. Different properties to own include a strip club, dance club, taxi business, ice cream factory, print works, and even a boatyard. There are missions involved with these, and the properties accumulate money as well. Another big feature is the updated and expanded soundtrack. The music is superb, with real hits from the 80's. You will have hits like Gary Newman's Cars, A Flock of Seagulls, and others. These are seperated into several stations, but two of the stations are chat stations. They are VCPR and K-Chat. These stations are humorous, and much better than the chat stations in GTA III. By the way, there are new radio hosts, and Lazlow has gone off to host the rock station, V-Rock. There are many more missions in Vice City, and you will do missions for a Cuban drug lord, a rock band, and even a porn director. These will build up to the finale, an intense and very fun string of missions similar to Scarface. This brings me to my next point. Vice City is just like the hot movie Scarface, and if Al Pacino ever ran out of cash, he could easily sue Vice City. So, if you are a fan of Scarface, then you will love Vice City. Now in the series, there are even more side missions. There are dirt bike tracks, selling ice cream, rampages, and the usual slurry of taxi cab, ambulance, and police missions and your service. If you put everything together, Vice City is the best game and biggest game ever made. I have had Vice City for nearly a year now, and I am only 86% completed. That should give you an idea of the sheer size of the game. It all boils down to this-If you are a fan of GTA III, you MUST buy Vice City! It will please any fan of gaming! My Rating-10!

This is not a game for underaged gamers. After that it is The best Game of all time.

Why, Because, You almost do anything you want. All types of Vehicles are under your disposle (literary).
If you could only play the Arcade at the Pizza store.

But fear not San Andreas should further satisfy our Hunger.

VICE CITY ROCKS GTA IV

when you combine elements of goodfellas with scarface and miami vice with a GREAT 80's soundtrack you get the best game ever made, period...throw in the voice over acting and the excellent storyline and you will never get tired of this game... i favor this game over the next gen GTA IV because the story is top notch and GTA IV seems to be missing something in the story, I can't relate to Niko at all...play Vice City through the first time without knowing what to expect and you will be amazed at how intricate this game really is...there's so many reviews so I am not going to go into detail about the game but I just want to advise you that I rather play this or san andreas anyday than the next gen game

Pretty cool

Ill admit, I never got into the series over the years when it was big. This is the only gta ive ever played and barely today did I give it a chance. I think the surfaced news of GTA 4 brought me to see what it was about. I did play scarface which is almost the exact same kind of game so the game play was not new to me. Its fun to reflect and play games from the past to see how far they have come in the gameplay and graphics. Cant wait for GTA 4.
