Tons of bugs and little to no QA - Don't buy!

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 5 / 6

Bugs:

A) The runtime slows incredibly when you have too many Doops running around (bad processing).

B) Caught a Gromp and the gate didn't go up. The Gromp was caught and the menu showed it as caught, but the animation didn't match (Mideen level).

C) The bee in Valley Floor gets stuck in a loop by the bridge.

Actual bad design issues:

A) Almost three minutes to load for just the title screen. And about one minute between each level.

B) Random camera angles which seem to switch for no reason, leading to running basically blind.

C) Several times music does not change to note whether or not a Gromp is around. Even if it's hitting your head off, no music change.

These are just a few of the problems and bugs found in just two days of playing (approximately eight hours between two people). Do not recommend for the above reasons. My fiance and I tend to think that the company was so eager to get this title on the shelf that they did little to no QA. When you can find that many problems in under ten hours, you know something's really wrong. I agree that the animation is quite fetching ....

what a diasappointment

Like many, I have looked forward to this release for quite a while. I saw pictures of the amazing graphics and art direction and thought that this would be a truly unique adventure.
Needles to say it was a huge disappointment. The ggraphics were great in concept but in execution they were grainy and lifeless. The cutscenes were blurry and the voice animation did not match. Worst of all, the camera movement was so incredibly frustrating that I gave up realizing that this was a game that was released half-assed.

All this aside, one might think that the gameplay could save this title. Negative on that one too! I found no amusment in running after cutle little animals a billion times in order for them to follow me.

I thought this game would be a more relaxed version of Zelda or something. In reality it was a headache. I resold it the next day.

I know you might be reading this thinking, "thats just one opinion, I should see for myself" I implore you not to. This review is as objective as it can be.

Sorry to dissapoint...

Worse PS2 Game Ever

This is the worse PS2 game I've ever played. The graphics are 3rd rate and are far below many PSOne games.

The camera movement was so jerky that it hurt my eyes after about 5 minutes of play. My son and I stopped playing and never had an interest in playing again.

There are much better games available like FFX.

great art direction, questionable gameplay

I must first admit that I haven't spent a weekend playing HERDY GERDY. I tried it for a few hours and here's my reaction:

The art direction on this game is really great. CORE should be really proud of themselves. Particularly the cinematics...I'm impressed with the amount of facial animation they put into lil' Gerdy.

The person who says this game has the worst graphics ever has no idea what he's talking about. This game has a great, traditional animation feel without the obligatory toon-shaded lines. I was really impressed.

I found the gameplay, however, to be a bit frustrating. The herding aspect proved tricky, and I found myself getting more disinterested than compelled to keep on going.

In fact, I was more interested in just watching than playing. But maybe that's because I'm a little bit older. The mixed reviews are probably going to kill this game, but if you're an animator or art director worth your salt, you'll be sure to pick up this game and give it a good look.

Fun for short periods of time

I bought this game a couple of years ago, because I read good things about it. I played it for about half an hour and was sick as a dog. I love puzzle games, but the way that the camera angle constantly changes it is nothing short of nauseating. My mother-in-law and I both have this game, and have had to leave it on the shelf, because we get sick from playing. This is not the only game that does this to me, so I've had to be very selective in what games I select to buy and play. I don't recall this being a problem in the past, but I'm sure that there are several out there, that wouldn't expect a video game to make them sick, but beware if you have any type of motion sickness whatsoever, this game is not for you.

Herdy Gerdy

I'm not a "gamer" by any means, but this game was all right. I had to get something because I've already played the more popular adventure games. As almost everyone comments, the loading is very slow and the camera angles are messed up. Good game if you want to play for several hours. The pace is slow which is great for me, but I could see how most would get bored. Basically, if you just want to roam around and herd animals, this game is for you. If you actually want any action, look elsewhere.

Great potential, yet far from adequate

It only took me a few hours to realize that Herdy Gerdy wasn't the game for me. The camera, as many others before have mentioned, moves practically uncontrollably around Gerdy, making gameplay irritating and much less fun than it would be otherwise.
Although the premise is interesting, original, and fun, the irritating controlls and agrivating excess camera motion make for an unpleasant gaming experience. Also, spending at least half an hour herding animals and solving puzzles to open a door that requires 50% completion, only to not be able to find the door you have opened, often times leaving the level and losing all your progress, gets very annoying. After taking all the animals halfway across a level, it is no fun to go back through to do it all over again.
This game may be good for kids in homes with no violence rules, but I miss the days where chances were any game you pick up met that description. If you're looking for a good, non-violent game, pick up a Lemmings title, not this.

Mediocre!

Herdy Gerdy was a fun game, don't get me wrong, but it's far from perfect. First of all the gameplay consists of herding animals with various types of objects. The storyline actually isn't so bad and the music is great(different from any other game), but the game can get boring pretty fast. Its a bit to hard and that is what makes this game so frusturating. When I first got this game, I played it quite often and got about 33% done. But then I got stuck and, no matter how many times I'd try, I could not get past that part. I sometimes still will go back to playing that game but I have never been able to get past the part I got stuck at about 2 years ago. On the other hand, this game is a nice wholesome game that is suitable for younger kids.

Gorgeous title with everything you need in an adventure...

I had my doubts about buying Herdy Gerdy after the relatively low advertising and publicity it was given. Not to mention that previews of the game are scarce and it looks as though many people will end up passing this one up. Don't.

Imagine a Saturday morning cartoon (not today's cartoons, I'm talking 80s here) done completely in watercolor and you'll have a good understanding of the graphics. For those who have played Ico, you will recognize the similarity in colors and styles used, only Herdy Gerdy is a little more 'toony.'

The gameplay runs smoothly, and once you get the hang of herding the creatures it isn't nearly as hard as it could have been. Voice acting is good for a game, and the environments are wonderful. Amazingly you don't get bored herding creature after creature, and there are also extras to be unlocked on the main menu. All in all it's a great game. The reason for only four stars? Painfully slow loading times between levels and, though the story is original, it isn't that involving. However if you beat MGS2 and GTA3, or if those aren't your speed, then this is a great title to play for fun.

Great for the little ones with hours of play!

Yes, yes, the camera angles are screwy but once you get used to it (like any game) the game flows well. It is definitely geared to a younger audience and will keep a little one entertained for hours.
