An Epic Marvel that will probably be over looked.

Combining elements of Pikmin with traditional platformers plus an awesome cartoon look Herdy Gerdy is for the hardcore elite gamer. The style and feel of this game brings you back some of your favorite animated movies and giving you control the whole time. With absolutely amazing levels, sprawling with lush detail flooded with characters. The characters are well animated and each with their own unique personalities. The gameplay deep and immersive constantly challenging and only hindered a few times by the camera getting caught up here and there. A definite plus is the there is a bit of length to this platformer, about 20+ hours, rarely seen in games of this caliber. The one draw back is there is soooo much detail that the game has some pretty mean load times, but once you get in to the game you'll begin not to notice. This game is at least worth a rental, but whether you buy or rent give the some time its a little slow going at first but well worth your efforts in the end.

Tons of bugs and little to no QA - Don't buy!

Bugs:

A) The runtime slows incredibly when you have too many Doops running around (bad processing).

B) Caught a Gromp and the gate didn't go up. The Gromp was caught and the menu showed it as caught, but the animation didn't match (Mideen level).

C) The bee in Valley Floor gets stuck in a loop by the bridge.

Actual bad design issues:

A) Almost three minutes to load for just the title screen. And about one minute between each level.

B) Random camera angles which seem to switch for no reason, leading to running basically blind.

C) Several times music does not change to note whether or not a Gromp is around. Even if it's hitting your head off, no music change.

These are just a few of the problems and bugs found in just two days of playing (approximately eight hours between two people). Do not recommend for the above reasons. My fiance and I tend to think that the company was so eager to get this title on the shelf that they did little to no QA. When you can find that many problems in under ten hours, you know something's really wrong. I agree that the animation is quite fetching ....

Great Puzzle Game. Fun. Frustrating

This game is really intriguing. It has the feel of a mario world but expands beyond that to include difficult puzzle solving. You have to herd various creatures into their pens. Simple, but far from easy. the land scape is varied and requires some thinking just to get from point a to point b. the animals themselves all have different attributes, which you must learn in order to herd them. some will eat others, some can fly, some can swim, etc.

the major draw back is the camera angles are terrible ... sometimes you will have no idea of where you are, and what is chasing you.

the graphics are not stellar -- truly a first generation game. they are pretty humorous, however. lots of little details. the landscape is especially nice to look at

all in all, it is clever, hard, fun. i would recommend it.

Great Puzzle Game

Herdy Gerdy is a brilliant puzzle game with a theme geared more towards children and gameplay more for experienced gamers. You play as a young boy name herdy whos father has fallen asleep and cannot wake up because of a curse put upon him. Gerdy soon learns who has put this curse on his father and what he must do to help get rid of it. He must prove himsxelf worthy of being a great herder and make it to the final herding tournament and defeat the evil Sadorf who has cursed his father. The gameplay ranges from easy to challenging as you progress along your journey to the tournament herding as many creatures as you can into their pens while avoiding obstacles and predators who like to eat the creatures. Once you have herded enough creatures you will be aloud to challenge the evil Sadorf in the final tournament to release his evil curse put upon his father. The game becomes quite challenging and frustrating at times largely due to choppy graphics and some poor camera angles in the game. but the game always manages to keep your interest and maintain its fun. Despite the games minor flaws if your up for a fun challenge in this puzzle adventure than I recommend you give this game a try. This is the type of game that when you beat it you really deserve a pat on the back and feel a sense of accomplishment. Overall GREAT GAME!!!

Great for the little ones with hours of play!

Yes, yes, the camera angles are screwy but once you get used to it (like any game) the game flows well. It is definitely geared to a younger audience and will keep a little one entertained for hours.

A perfect title for you "no gun rule" homes.

I'm a dad of 3 children under 6 years old and I myself love video games. My 5 year old son loves them also and my 3 year old girl loves to watch, so, violent, scary games usually aren't the best idea.
The skill required is a little beyond my 5 year old's capabilities except for the first 3 levels, which lets me play!
It's my first PS2 game to own and we love it. You play as a boy named Herdy that has to round up various creatures in order to advance to higher levels. The way you do it reminds me of that old puzzle of getting the hen, the cat, and the feed bag to the other side of the river without having anything get eaten.
The graphics give the game and animated feel. The levels are 3D, free roaming and expansive. The characters are fun and the action is great.
For younger gameers, it could help them to think outside of the box and realize that achieving a goal isn't as easy as it may first appear. For $20, you can't go wrong.
If you can't get past the faulty camera or long load times, either design your own game or don't buy it.
My kids and I also like Jak and Daxter.

Great game for all those Moms who don't want the violence

This is a very clever game and beautifully illustrated. Overall, I really liked the game and the strategy involved. It's not much on the replay though. But this is a great game for girls and an even better game for the younger set. Moms can be happy that the point of the game is save the characters not kill them.

Great potential, yet far from adequate

It only took me a few hours to realize that Herdy Gerdy wasn't the game for me. The camera, as many others before have mentioned, moves practically uncontrollably around Gerdy, making gameplay irritating and much less fun than it would be otherwise.
Although the premise is interesting, original, and fun, the irritating controlls and agrivating excess camera motion make for an unpleasant gaming experience. Also, spending at least half an hour herding animals and solving puzzles to open a door that requires 50% completion, only to not be able to find the door you have opened, often times leaving the level and losing all your progress, gets very annoying. After taking all the animals halfway across a level, it is no fun to go back through to do it all over again.
This game may be good for kids in homes with no violence rules, but I miss the days where chances were any game you pick up met that description. If you're looking for a good, non-violent game, pick up a Lemmings title, not this.

Fun for short periods of time

I bought this game a couple of years ago, because I read good things about it. I played it for about half an hour and was sick as a dog. I love puzzle games, but the way that the camera angle constantly changes it is nothing short of nauseating. My mother-in-law and I both have this game, and have had to leave it on the shelf, because we get sick from playing. This is not the only game that does this to me, so I've had to be very selective in what games I select to buy and play. I don't recall this being a problem in the past, but I'm sure that there are several out there, that wouldn't expect a video game to make them sick, but beware if you have any type of motion sickness whatsoever, this game is not for you.

what a diasappointment

Like many, I have looked forward to this release for quite a while. I saw pictures of the amazing graphics and art direction and thought that this would be a truly unique adventure.
Needles to say it was a huge disappointment. The ggraphics were great in concept but in execution they were grainy and lifeless. The cutscenes were blurry and the voice animation did not match. Worst of all, the camera movement was so incredibly frustrating that I gave up realizing that this was a game that was released half-assed.

All this aside, one might think that the gameplay could save this title. Negative on that one too! I found no amusment in running after cutle little animals a billion times in order for them to follow me.

I thought this game would be a more relaxed version of Zelda or something. In reality it was a headache. I resold it the next day.

I know you might be reading this thinking, "thats just one opinion, I should see for myself" I implore you not to. This review is as objective as it can be.

Sorry to dissapoint...
