Best baseball game out for PS2

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 6 / 7

As a person who spent years playing nothing but the Triple Play series, it was hard for me to switch to something different. But, EA sports made it an easier decision by pretty much ruining Triple Play. So, I now had to find a replacement. All-Star Baseball was just too hard... maybe I was too dumb, but I just couldn't figure it out. So, I tried High Heat 2003. At first, I was disappointed with HH 2003 as well. But then I found this feature called the "Tuning Menu". What an amazing addition. The tuning menu lets you customize almost every aspect of the game, from how easy or hard it is to hit, to how fast the fielders get to the ball. I was sold. This feature makes the game the most realistic baseball simulation out there. Plus, if you want your games to basically be homerun derbies, you can do that too. There are just 3 things that could be improved on. First, the graphics are pretty good, but not great. Second, there is no career mode. You play a season, win the World Series, and then you have to start all over again. It would be nice to build upon you past successes and try to repeat. Third, get rid of the stupid "2 on 2 showdown". It's fun for about 5 minutes, then you realize how useless it really is. If you are still looking for a baseball game, rent the games that are out and compare them, I guarantee you will find this to be head and shoulders above the competition.

I Am the ultimate baseball reviewer.

This game is a solid game. bought it based on reviews, if you are looking for a realistic game and are not concerned with graphics, this is it. I don't even notice the graphics which aren't that bad. Higher levels of the game are tough, stat lines are very deep. games are 30 minutes tops, and stats are normal, not over the top like Triple play. haven't tried the 2 on 2 but sounds ok. Only con is the rosters and schedule, schedule is not up to date 2002 season. Rosters are last years, but if you do a fantasy draft season like me, it is down your alley, I was waiting for MLB 2003 but couldn't resist, this game is off tha hook!!!

Awesome Video Game!

This game is very realistic, and I really like it! The batting stances, mostly look real, and the rest of the game play is cool! They have the exact uniforms as the big leagues. Most players aquired or signed by teams, are on that team! The only bad things about this game, is the fact that there is NO FRANCHISE MODE! The Season is good though. There is a 2 on 2 mode. That's were you pick your favorite batter and pitcher, from the team of your choice, and you go against another team. The score counts by different areas in the field. This is a great game, and if you are a die hard baseball fan like me, GET IT! LETS GO METS!

Close to perfect

This game is very underrated from the reviews I have read. I would give it a perfect rating if not for the lack of off the field managing. The only problem I have with the entire game is the lack of injuries, no disabled list and you only get a 25 man roster (no triple A teams and a very small bench) The game play itself is tremendous, the scoring is realistic and the computer doesn't just score on homers, they will bunt runners over and score from 2nd on singles. You can also tinker with almost any aspect of the game such as how fast the pitches come in all the way to how fast the baserunners move. So in reality you can make the game as easy or as difficult as you choose. I feel this is very important because eventually in other games you always wind up killing the computer, but not here.
However, like I said, the 25 man roster stinks and injuries are a joke. They rarely ever happen and when they do it is only for one or two games. I want a game where my guy can hurt his hamstring while running to 1st and miss 2 weeks, plus I can bring up a minor leaguer to replace him. I hear that High Heat has corrected this problem in 2004's version so be patient.

IF YOU HAVE HH2002, DON'T BOTHER WITH THIS ONE!!

I enjoyed last years game but there's so little difference with this years that it's not worth the money. I'll take it back today. The players are on the teams they were on last year. The big trades that happened aren't in this game. There's no franchise mode, only season mode and they even botched that. It has the 2001 season schedule, not this years. So if it has the players on the wrong teams and the wrong schedule, why bother? As much as I wish Kenny Lofton was still on the Tribe, it just isn't right.
The graphics are a little better than they were but still not as good as All Star Baseball or even Triple Play. I don't even care about the graphics I just want this years' schedule because I like to play the game that is scheduled in real life to be played that day. Good bye, high heat.

Probably the best baseball game on the PS2

High Heat 2003 for the PS2 is a great baseball video game, despite the lack of a Franchise mode which is the biggest problem with this game. I am used to playing Sega's World Series Baseball series on the Dreamcast and personally think both series' are basically equal except that High Heat's Franchise mode is a little more in-depth.

Graphically this game is awesome. The players look like the real life players and their pitching styles and batting stances are head on.

The gameplay in this game is pretty good. Pitching involves pressing one of four buttons for a certain pitch and square if you want it to be outside of the strike zone or circle if you want it to be in the zone. One thing I think that should be in the pitching is to be able to aim where you pitch like you can in World Series Baseball. Fielding is very simple using all four buttons to throw to a certain base. And a great feature in this is being able to rob homeruns without having to press several buttons. But fielding is a pain for some people, having to use the control pad instead of the analog stick often screws you up and you can't tell where you are going. It is also almost impossible to throw out a runner attempting to steal unless you are a veteran at this game.

The Franchise mode in this game is equally as good as WSB 2K2 and better in some ways. Fro trading, to retirements, to free agent signings to rookie drafts, to minor leagues, it's all here in the Franchise Mode where you have total control over your team. You can choose to play with the real rosters or do a fantasy draft which is like being in a fantasy baseball league, except you get to play the games. This is my favorite mode in this game.

The lack of a few things in the gameplay bring my rating down from a 5 to a 4, but this is still a wise choice for PS2 owners looking for a solid baseball game.

Could be so much better...

High Heat 2003 gets its 3 stars only because it's the best baseball sim out there - by default. I really can't understand what the developers have been doing for the past year, since 2003 looks almost exactly like 2002.

Cons:

Graphics! I don't need the latest 3D graphics, but please, make some improvements. An animated crowd would be nice, as would more realistically rendered players. And please, don't allow players to walk through each other!

Scouting Reports. I know that scouts aren't always accurate in real life either, but at least they don't appear absolutely random. I'd like to use this feature of the game, but frankly it's unusable in its present form.

Windows. When you manage a team, you need lots of information at your fingertips. Thankfully, HH2003 provides. Even so, I'd like to see it allow multiple windows. It's a pain to spend so much time navigating between screens.

Pros:

Despite it's problems, High Heat is still the best baseball sim out there. It remains pretty true to the game and the stats are fairly accurate representations of real life, although HH2003 seems to be a slight step back in those terms. The biggest reason I bought this game was because it did fix most of the bugs of 2002, and allowed me to play it on Windows XP.

If you enjoy 2002, and it works, don't bother with 2003 unless you really want updated rosters.

The BEST

I think that High Heat is the best baseball game on the market. Last year I had Triple Play and this year I wanted it again until I stumbled onto this game. It has very veeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrry realistic gameplay great stadium graphics and excellent pitcher batter interface. The only thing that I dont like about this game is that the scoreboard is not in realtime and some of the faces of the players could use some work. Other that that this is the game for any baseball lover.

3DO takes High Heat Baseball Deep!!!!!!!!!!!

True baseball junkies will get their fix from High Heat. ARCADE ENTHUSIASTS NEED NOT APPLY HERE, as High Heat does a fabulous job
of modeling real pitcher/batter duels. Working the count for balls and strikes, looking for the right pitch, or throwing your "out" pitch are just not cliches in High Heat. The satisfying level of strategy and depth is carried through out the game. Realistic stats and outcomes are the norm here, and your manegerial skills will be tested. If you long for the visual gloss and arcade play of All-Star Baseball or Triple Play, then High Heat maybe a little rough on you. If you are a fan of real baseball simulations, then High Heat is a must.
