There are many things that made this game special to me: pictures of a real place, immersive atmosphere and sounds, original story. You decide as a tourist to have a vacation in Capri. On the way to your hotel, the screen swirls, almost all the people disappear, and you find out that your hotel is closed. Now the locals recognise you as a local resident. They request you to run errands for them and tell you about various features of the island and its history. This premise for a game may seem boring until you learn that you ended up in a different dimension and you must go back to your world before it's too late. At this point the game becomes much more interesting. There are plenty of puzzles to solve, you find a lot of strange machinery. The conclusion of the game is great as all of the pieces fell into place. This is a first-person perspective game and each scene is a color digitized photograph of the real Capri. Overall this game has some flaws but it's a step in the right direction for more adventure games to come. I would recommend to anyone that has ever liked either an adventure game or Capri. I find this game very valuable for its educational value.

I stumbled on this game by total accident. Without much expectation, I found myself totally amazed by how much fun this game is! The game is simply ADDICTIVE. It is very different from other adventure games I've played, such as Syberia and Black Mirror. The pictures of Capri island were breathtakingly gorgeous. I love the encounter of real Italian locals, hear their voice and the other natural sounds of the environment. The plot was quite challenging. It warms up slowly. But as soon as you got into the puzzles and riddles, you can't pull yourself out of it. It is definitely a fun storyline. I would recommend this game to anyone, especially if you are looking for both a cultural and adventurous experience. Plus, the soundtrack is great as well!

Great game!

This game is great for the thinking minds. The logics are well-thought out and the game is surprisingly fun for a point and click adventure. You are given a vast amount of land to explore and occasional environmental objects to interact with. You meet (real Capri's) villagers once in a while. This gives the game a very nice touch and enhances the realism of the exploration. It was nice to include both English and Italian voices. The reason this game can disappoint is that in the beginning it's hard and a bit confusing. But once you get into the game it is very challenging and I really enjoyed it. Patience is the key with this game, if you are not the patient type this isn't the game for you. The concept is intriguing. Scenery of Capri is simply breathtaking. All through the game, you could feel playing the game. Overall, Capri is simple and organic, It's worth buying it for the scenery, logics and the surprisingly good non-linear game-play.

This is not a blockbuster...

I have always been on the lookout for special things, be it adventure games or independent movies. They remind me of the fresh creativity and subtle sensitivity that we hardly get from blockbusters these days. So when I saw Capri winning the "Best Independent Game in 2003" prize from JustAdventure, I immediately bought it. And guess what?

This game is worth every penny.

It is surely not flashy. It has a simple intuitive interface and the graphics is made with pictures. But you do not need a fancy graphics here. I was immediately absorbed by the orginal storyline. While playing, I had the feeling of being there, in the magical Mediterrean island, far from the noise and the stress of my daily life. It was a lot of fun to hear folkstown speaking and listen to the sound of nature. And quite pleasantly, I found myself learning a great
deal of Capri and the Italian people. When I finished the game -which was not easy at all - I felt so bad. Strangely, without being there, I missed Capri! The good news is that along with the game, there is also a tourist visit part. I can always go back and just wander around the island!

While some people might prefer the big productions with more violent, flashy features, there are plenty of people like me that will value the little gems like Capri. I have also read similar opinions on Game Chronicle, PC-Gamer, JustAdventure and so on. So if you are looking for something unusual, special, fun and challenging, this game is for you.

not at all what I expected...

I really, really wish that I had read some reviews of this game before I bought it, because now I can't return it. I could have spent my money on something much better than this string of snapshots with voiceovers attatched. If this game were freeware, I probably would have liked it, but it's not. Instead, it's a twenty dollar game that plays like freeware and has packaging like Myst.

Incidentally, it was the references to Myst on the packaging that led me to buy this game. The packaging says, "Think Myst but in a real location" (Quandary). True, like this game, Myst was basically snapshots of a fictional world that you could occaisionally interact with, much like this game, but there's a few big differences between Myst and this game. Myst never really felt like a string of snapshots to me, because the world it depicted was so beautiful and mysterious, and the puzzles were so engaging. Capri is beautiful, but moving through it is confusing and frusterating. There are so many places where one street looks just like another, which makes getting turned around or lost really easy, unless you check the map every step of the way, and doing that just makes the game feel even more clunky. I enjoyed the scenery in Myst, but I could care less about the many, many snapshots of streets that A Quiet Weekend in Capri includes. There should really be a better way to navigate the world of this game. I haven't finished this game yet, but the puzzles mostly seem to involve doing errands for people, which, combined with the frusterating navigation, becomes incredibly tedious. The people themselves are another annoying aspect of the game. It's impossible to talk to any of them, which seems odd for a game that takes pride in being located in a real place. You'd think being able to talk to people would add to the reality of it. The people themselves are also snapshots, by the way. They are never animated, even when they're talking - even Myst animated talking people. There are, in fact, very few animations in this game.

This game has, for me, redefined bad games. I cannot believe that someone allowed this game to be released. It's amazing to me that someone seriously thought that basing a game off of thousands of touristy photographs would be a good idea - and some of the photos aren't even all that good, blurry, with bad composition, or lens flares. My plan is to sell this game as soon as I can. Although I can't get cash from any of the places in my area, I can get game credit. The next time around, I'll make sure I thoroughly research the game before I buy it. This game may cost only twenty dollars, but it's a waste of every one of those dollars. Do yourself a favor and get something better. If you want to try this game, wait until it hits the bargain bins.

I've been playing Capri for just about 3 weeks now and I have to say that I haven't enjoyed a game this much in years. It's a great combination of exploration and puzzle solving; Capri is not spoon-feeding you. This game is not for people who can't deal with a challenge. The game play is fluid and captivating. The controls are very simple and intuitive. Beautiful music, rich sound effects for environmental stuff. I'd recommend this game to anyone who's interested in taking a step outside the norm for a video game.

A cool game!

I have read that this game is considered as a Myst-real-location from reviews on adventure game sites. It is partly true because it gives the same atmosphere as Myst. But it uses real-life photos rather than computer generated graphics.
When I played the game, I felt totally immersed in the real-life setting of the island. This is something I like very much, considering that I probably wouldn't get to go to Capri myself in the foreseeable future. The storyline is rather unconventional. It also has a good sense of humor at many places. The only thing I hope they had done more is to give me more "save slots".

Overall it is one of the best games I've played recently. I really told all my friends about it. It is definitely a cool game to own! -- Especially considering that you also get to have a completely navigatable guide of Capri!

I found this game very enjoyable. The game has nice pictures and the sound is pretty immersive. The voice acting has italian accent though. The gameplay revolves around puzzle solving. Overall I found this game well balanced... the puzzle are always logical. Some of them are really hard! A must buy for point and click fans and well worth a try for those wanting to try a title from the genre out....

Very good graphical adventure

A Quiet weekend in Capri is a very good graphical adventure. The world is composed of thousands of photographs and it is very pleasing to the eyes. The music is great and is, by itself, the atmosphere in this game. Great job on the sounds too. Some of the puzzles can be really hard. Some of them generate real satisfaction and are all very logical. If you get stuck, just look into a walkthrough to solve the problem and then continue without it. Most of the puzzles are simple and easy to solve. Talk to people, grab all the things you can, observe the scenery (which is gorgeous) and investigate the items in the inventory bag. Some of them look really weird! Although there is no pixel hunting, often you might to not to take notice of some important thing... so be careful! If you do like adventure games, this is a fine game for you!!

A new kind of game

Weekend in Capri uses pictures instead of rendered graphics. To my knowledge this is the first example of adventure game made with real pictures. I thought this was a great idea and that's why I bought Capri. At the very beginning I just started wandering around. The place and the pictures were so gorgeous, the natural sounds so immersive that I felt like exploring a new world. After a while I made up my mind. I am playing this game to solve a mystery! And slowly I started figuring out what was the game about: try to find your way back to your original world. It took me a while, but once I got into it, I found the storyline really intriguing and entertaining. Overall I had a lot of fun with this game. Highly recommended.
