I know what you're thinking: "Tomb Raider or Indiana Jones?" I tested both, and can easily and confidently assure to you that THIS is the one to buy: Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb.
Why? Because this is Indy's WORLD. Jungles? Tombs? Gruffy bad guys? WHY on earth is LARA CROFT in this world? This is the type of game that hands down the only one worthy of such adventures is Indiana Jones.
Indy tops the new Tomb Raider game. Gameplay: Much better. In Tomb Raider you slowly meek your way along a wall, an alley, a tiny room in an APARTMENT?? Call it "Apartment Raider" if that's what you're gonna be doing. In Indy, you're in the Jungle, jumping around, kicking bad-guy but, climbing vines, using your whip, exploring TOMBS, etc. In Indy, run up to a bad guy and duke it out Indy-style. Very cool. No stupid weapons here, just trusty sidearms, a machette, and of course the WHIP.
Music: Uses the Indy theme! Music amps up when you encounter bad guys. Cool.
Levels aren't too big in Indy's game, but I like that - quickly make headway in the game instead of moping around Lara's world.
Choose wisely. Choose Indy.

I have been waiting for a game like this for twenty years!

When I was a little boy I wanted to be an adventurer like shown on the Indiana Jones movies, finialy they have made the next best thing. I like the fist fights, and the wip, those are things Laura Croft doesn't offer. I prefur the adventerous looking man to the sexy woman (in a danjorus journey). I think that the fact that the Indiana Jones movie trilogy; being so successfil decades before Larua Croft raided her first tomb cemented Indiana Jones's place as the premire adventurer/archelogist. It also helps that this game could be Indy's fourth major adventure.

Decent game, especially found at a decent price

First of all this isn't that bad of a game but it's not worth $49, $39 or even $29. If you can find it for $20 or less (perferably less) then it's worth getting. The voice acting is good, despite the slight fuzziness the graphics have at times and no random saves the game is good, especially the story line, almost just like the movies. The main reason I give this game a 3 is because of the Kraken (not the Kraken from the Clash of the Titans movie), is a pain in the A.. literally, I tried to beat him for an hour and gave up, maybe after awhile I'll go back to the game but I'm not in a hurry. The Gates of Neptune level is pretty annoying too, the concept is cool but it can be frustrating. I recommend a strategy guide for this, especially if you're not that good at solving puzzles. If you're a fan of the Indiana Jones series, this is worth having just for that.

Great game, but without the ability to "save as you go", it seems this thing was written by a sadist.

Levels are needlessly complicated often you find yourself standing back where you started wondering where to go next. Game saves only at end of level so you are always restarting the level if you get killed which makes replay value a big zero because you have to play each level over and over. not for the casual gamer or novice but if you are willing to play slow and steady the story is good the action is fun, not a must buy, I would rent it first

The Emperor Is Rolling In His Tomb at how good this game is

If you have any hesitation as to how good or bad this game is, I will simply say that this game is the best Indiana Jones game ever. All of the classics are here: the whip, adventure hat, and all the creepy-looking baddies you could want. After you play it, you will be wishing the new movie would come out right now.

Get it. Immediately

This is a great game. If you like Indiana Jones as much as I do, (not possible, but you can try), or just like a game with a really good story and deeply immersing plot, this is your game. Gameplay is excellent, with the controls easy to master, and challenges that are tough but not impossible. This game does live up to the Indiana Jones name. Voice-acting is pretty good. If you have ears like mine for the tones of people's voices, you'll know it isn't Harrison Ford's voice, but a near-perfect wannabe. Character rendering is nice, and the graphics are very good. This is a platform game as well as action, so be prepared to jump, run, and dodge traps with your quick reflexes. And action and fighting is good too. Punch, kick, beat mercilessly, and shoot your way through hoards of ... criminals using fists, tools, and even things you break, like table legs. Use a variety of weapons (MP40, Revolver, Luger, and even your trusty whip to lay the Indy Smackdown and beat the game. This is one I highly reccomend.

Great conversion from Platform to PC

I actually am an archaeologist, so I guess I have a special "thing" for Indy. But I'm also an avid gamer, and this game delivers the best of both of my passions.

If you are looking for the realism of Doom3, forget about it. This is a fantasy-style game, with gameplay emphasized more than realism. Taking the best from games like Tomb Raider (and leaving behind the mind-numbing back-tracking and key-hunts of this predecessor), Indy and the Emperor's tomb is fun from beginning to end.

It sounds silly, but being able to drop your weapons and just pick up a chair to smash your enemies is a rush that must be appreciated. You are never powerless, as random objects can often be used to bash in your oponents, and sometimes it's just best to use your fists and elbows to smash in those Nazis.

I ocassionally had to seek out a walkthough on the internet, since some level bosses had a "trick" that I just didn't get on my own.

In some ways, I would compare this game (favorably) to playing the hobbits in LOTR ROTK, possibly mixed with the Playstation classic Tomorrow Never Dies. Wonderful environments, lots of action, low gore (for the kiddies), and generally great gameplay.

I give it four stars instead of five, simply because the game can occasionally feel formulaic (not as immersive as some more realistic titles). But don't let this stop you from buying it. You won't be disappointed.

An Indy fans dream come true

For those of you who went onto the Indiana Jones and the Emperors Tomb website at Lucasarts, you probably know how good this game looked. The awsome concept art, the fantastic screenshots, all looked like the greatest Indy game of all time was finially within our grasp. Did it deliver? I am pleased to say that for the most part, the answer is Yes.

For Indys latest foray into the video game world, Lucasarts went back in time to a pre-Temple of Doom era, where everybodys favorite archiologist is on the hunt for the "Heart of the Dragon" a mythical rock that can control the will of men. So of course, the nazis are on its trail as well, along with an evil chinese thug group named the Black Dragon. Can Indy find the rock before its too late?

The main focous for the game is its awsome fighting engine. When facing an evil thug, you have the option of punching them, grabbing them and punching them, and slaming them with an overhead slam. The fighiting is very diverse and flexable, which means that if you can smash buttons, you can fight almost any foe that comes your way. Also, you can get guns to fight, such as indys pistol, a shotgun, a submachine gun, and even a crossbow. Unfortunitly, guns are not very good at taking down bad guys. I once emptied an entire 30 shot sub-machine gun clip on a nazi, and he was still standing. Another time, 3 point blank range shotgun blasts wouldent even make a guy flinch. Very unrealistic. You can also grab objects from the enviornment to fight with, such as chairs, table legs, foot-stools, and bamboo spears. One nice touch that I liked was that Indys hat can be knocked off during a fight (Dont worry, you can get it back) A few times, when I was unable to get the hat back, I felt so guilty, I jumped off a cliff and started the level over.

The graphics for the playstation 2 version of the game are very good overall, but slightly less powerfull then the Xbox version, but thats Ok in my book. Several people have said that when more then 3 enimies show up on screen, there is massive slowdown. Yes, there is some slowdown, but maybe only 5% overall, so it does not affect my game. On Indys journeys, you will travel to the islands of ceylon, the massive castle of prauge, the underwater temples of Istanbul, huge chinese mountians, a chinese castle, and a mythicall...well, I wont spoil it. Some of these levels are an absoloute sight to behold, but I'll leave that up to you to find.

Sadly, the game does have some problems. Yes, the ever hated "No save" option is here, but since most of the levels are very short (But there are a lot of them) it shouldent be too hard. Unlike the previous game, The Infernal machine, there are no vehicle sequences, such as driving a jeep. We do get a few rail based shooting levels, involving a gondola and a cart in the streets of hong kong. There are few puzzles to be found, but most of them are quite a brain teaser. There are a few hair-tearing frustration scenes that can impede your progress because you dont know what to do next. For example, at the end of a mosqe level, Indy says that a giant head is his ticket out of here. There also happens to be a huge hole in the ground, so the natural response is to take the head and stick it in the ground. After half an hour, and about 7 restarts, I learned that you have to bring the head up as far as possible, and to the right. The boss battles are very hit and miss. Some of them are quite cool, such as Indys battle with a demon and the final level, but most of the battles are just silly and wierd, such as a battle with a frankinetien monster, and a fight with two evil twins are just plain silly and unnesicary. Likewise, a battle with a giant squid sounds cool, but due to those stupid jellyfish, it is meerly average. The plot also is meerly average and never takes off. Von beck is a lame and non-threatining villan, and it is never explained how the mirror of dreams got to all those mysterious locations. The ending is also kind of lame. Why no sunset?

Despite these flaws, Indiana Jones and the Emperors Tomb is probably Indys greatest videogame adventure, right next to "Fate of Atlantis" (Be sure to get that one, its excellent). Overall, if you love Indy, you will probably love this game. Highly recommended.

The good:
Good graphics
superb fighting engine
massive levels
the voice is pretty much dead on
some very cool moments and levels
some neat boss battles

The not so good:
The "No save anywhere" feature
some moments of hair tearing frustration
guns are not very well balanced
not much re-play value

mediocre plot, weak ending

READ THIS FIRST!!!!!

Ok, let me tell you what's good about this game before I lay the downside on you. The settings are creative and the "puzzles" are challenging. It's got the great Indiana Jones music and some cool Indy trademarks like the whip and the hat that he loses from time to time.

Now the downside. Where do I begin? The gameplay is a bit slow sometimes, it takes him too long to climb up/shimmy across things but that's not a big deal. A HUGE problem is that unlike every other game, Indy FALLS off ledges, rather than catching them. So while walking across a simple walkway, you can fall and die or fall and have to go through the entire mess that got you to the top in the first place. In a flooded underground temple in Istanbul for example, you must swim (through shark infested waters) to find a ledge to climb up on. Then you go through an obstacle course of ledges, jumps, whip swings, etc, to find your prize. Fall once, and you have to go through it all over again. You will fall many times because this Indy is too retarded to catch the ledge! BUT, it takes hours because you have to do this like 5 different times in this level, all without a save. So you can find most of the items, then take a shark bite and have to do it all over again. You keep nothing that you accomplished. I completed the previous level with somewhat low health and despite the save, I was left with this low health when I unlocked the next level. So with no means to increase my health, I kept dying after trying to perform simple tasks (or tasks that would be simple in normal games, like walking and jumping). It's got glitches too, while swimming, Indy can get stuck on a wall and if you're low on air, you'll die. I like playing games, not working them like a friggin job and that's what this one feels like. After a week of this damn Istanbul, I looked for cheat codes to help me get past and the only one out there doesn't even work. Want a great game? Get Bounty Hunter or ICO. Bounty Hunter has amazing gameplay, lots of action and great fighting. ICO has the best gameplay of any game I've ever played as well as incredible settings and intricate but not impossible puzzles and tasks. AVOID INDIANA JONES AND THE EMPEROR'S TOMB! Rent it and you'll see.
