King's Quest is a classic and a must have.

From the minute I first played King's Quest, I was absolutely in love with it. The story lines are fantastic and dreamy and the characters are so modern and believable. I could play the game over and over and never get bored.

The seven King's Quests follow the royal Daventry family, beginning with King Graham and ending with princess Rosella and her mother Queen Valanice. The graphics, though old and blocky at first, morph considerably into something rich and inviting as you move from game one to seven and provide a wonderful look into the past when character development and just plain old fun were the two most important elements of gaming. Not only is it entertaining, but it puts your mind to the test as you are presented with multiple obstacles with nothing but a pile of random objects at your side.

I highly recommend this game for those who just want to have a good bit of fun. However, if graphics are all you care about, steer clear of King's Quest. Story line and characters are emphasized in a time when great graphics were unavailable.

Still in Love with them after all these years....

I still remember running King's Quest V on an MSDOS program. My dad and I would sit there and play for hours. These games bring back so many memories, and they are ultimately (I suppose) responsible for the amazing imagination I have today. I've played King's Quest VI no less than 25 times, and all the other games have received play, as well. I was very sad when I got a new computer recently, and I could not play my KQ games on it! Thus, I was extremely excited when they rereleased the games! Now I can play KQ 6 a 26th time, and catch up on the other games.

They're amazing, and they were revolutionary games when they first came out. Everyone should play them because the designers were top notch when they developed this game. Unlike many game designers of today, these designers did not skimp on plot, characterization, design, graphics, difficulty level, or anything else. These games provide hours of fun, and they never get old. I guess what C.S. Lewis said about books is true of games: "What's worth [playing] when you're 10 should be worth [playing] when you're 50!"

I have grown up with the Kings Quest series and have spent many hours trying new and creative ways to get the original games to work properly on todays computers. I was very pleased to find this title being rereleased in the windows XP format. I look at these games like some people look at old movies, they have a charm that the new games often lack. The only thing that would make my collection complete would be if the "Quest for Glory" series rereleased in Windows XP.

For those of you that enjoy adventure games and haven't yet played all of the King's Quest games, you should. The King's Quest games are really quite excellent. And as far as adventure games go, this is the series that started it all.

As for KQIX, I was also dissapointed to hear that it was forced to shutdown. However, I did discover a group that is trying to save it. You can find them at: savekqix [dot] org

It's a shame, though

One would think that Vivendi would applaud the production of KQIX, a game that doubtless would ensnare even more KQ fans, generating a whole new population of gamers who never had the chance to play KQI-VIII (or at least the first few). Instead they shut down the production within a few months of completion of a game that was poses no threat nor competition to their company whatsoever. For shame, Vivendi. Kudos to KQIX producers, however, for being gracious about it and still advocating support of Vivendi. I would be tempted to buy these games if I had any idea about the specs -- are these updated versions? Why are there no mac versions available? What KQ's does the compilation comprise? I'm pleased to see that the KQ and SQ series are not going to fade into oblivion, but wish that Vivendi had exhibited great deal more grace in their revival.

This IS simply the old games formatted to work on XP, so don't expect anything new--but to those of us who are in it purely for the nostalgia, that's perfect! I had the compilations made for Windows 95, and was disappointed when they wouldn't work properly on XP, even after downloading numerous patches, so this was the perfect solution. There are a few minor annoyances--mostly visual ones, like a bit of screen flickering during animation-heavy sequences and the fact that the game screen doesn't QUITE align correctly on the monitor--but people who have missed the games and want to relive of a bit of nostalgia will be able to overlook these flaws.

Pros: They haven't reworked the games, so anyone who was a fan of the original will be getting the same game in this set. It installs all the games onto your computer at once, and installation is less tedious than older versions. The fact that the manuals are a built-in .pdf file is both a pro and a con--it's a pain to have to print them off if you want paper copies, but on the other hand it helps keep the cost down.

Cons: A bit of jerkiness and other minor visual issues shows that they haven't QUITE conquered modern video cards, but it's fine most of the time. And Kings Quest 5 STILL has no option to switch to text, despite our highest hopes.

One of my favourite game ever, specially the king's quest VI. I have played this game 4 times and still like to play. What I like most in this gme is the narrator and the story.Once you begun, you don't want to stop.

Oh no, King Graham, stay away from the edge!

It was so much fun to play these games again after all these years. There are two major bugs in KQ7 but they are not insurmountable. Manual installation is recommended. One of the reasons the KQ 1-7 games were so much fun was because of the humor and imaginative writing and the humor. Did I mention the humor? I find Shoot Everything In Sight games rather dull and boring, so was delighted to see this reissue.
