Impossible to Install

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 6 / 11

Received game yesterday. Went into loop when disc 1 inserted.
Could only stop by powering down. Tried disabling auto
insertion notification on CD drive and running setup.exe.
System (Win98SE) said "setup.exe not a valid win32 app."
Tried naked boot of win98 (run msconfig and eliminate running
autoexec.bat, config.sys and all the startup group items).
Still says "setup.exe not a valid win32 app."
Noted that the date on this setup.exe is 10/2/98 while the
date on the earlier Beyond Atlantis is 1/13/99. Why use an
older setup.exe? Dreamcatcher customer service no help
and no call back.

Beautiful graphics, good puzzles, very enjoyable to play!

Atlantis 3, Beyond Atlantis II
As the previous Atlantis games, this game contains beautiful graphics. The storyline is enjoyable, not in the least because of our feisty heroine and the beautiful scenes she encounters. The puzzles are interesting and not too difficult or too easy. The game is wonderfully easy to operate, not a mouse click too much is needed, many compliments for that! Also nice is the story in a story, where the hero suddenly is a male.
Any downsides: Very annoying is the puzzle that relies on motoric skill or luck (throwing the rock at the tiger). The end of the story is somewhat of an anticlimax. And there seem to be a few sides of the Cristal unused, suggesting that the makers of the game got fed up, and did not want to venture into more different worlds?
But overall, one of the best adventure games around!

It's a very nice game

This is a aventure / magic game, you will go trought different worlds: Sahara in the future, ancient Egypt, Paleolithic, etc.
The game is excellent if you like to use your brain and explore, if you like violence maybe is not OK. I have a medium performance system and it's working nice, no delays, no crashes (I have a W2K system). The puzzles are medium level. This is a very well trainig for your mind and exploration capabilities. I am a RTS player, and I don't know a lot of adeventure games, but i love Beyond Atlantis. Search internet using the key "Atlantis 3" and you will find more details.

Fun Game but too SHORT!

I really liked this game- great graphics and storyline- sort of ties in with Beyond Atlantis 1. But the game is short- Beyond Atlantis 1 took MUCH longer, and I loved that about it. This game is great, but I couldn't believe it ended so fast. Needed to be longer- definitely.

Install problems, game made no sense

I agree with others who had install problems. I also could not get the first CD to be recognised or install the game on my machine. I luckily have two computers and tried the install on the other (Windows ME instead of Windows 98SE) and it worked.

Then I had to try and figure out the stupid puzzles. I did not find them intuitive at all. Some were easy, others made no sense. I agree that the graphics were stunning, but I play games to PLAY, not look at pretty pictures. If you want to rate that way, 5 stars for looks, 1 star for substance.

A lot of good stuff ... and some truly awful elements!

All in all, this is a fairly decent adventure game, with exceptional graphics and a sooth game play. I resorted to a walk through several times but it was mainly sheer impatience on my part rather than extreme difficulty in the puzzles. Most are rather straight forward, although some involve pixel hunting that can cause terminal squinting.

The premise is not as bad as I've seen in other games and anyone who looks for great "plotlines" in a game is usually disappointed. Suffice it to say, you visit several different worlds and need to accomplish various tasks in each. My favorite was the icy Siberian type locale, which boasted a few interesting and unusual "puzzles."

Characters range from the very boring and stilted heroine (with the absolute WORST voice acting I've ever heard ... it was almost enough to make me want to mute the whole thing and just read the subtitles) to a hilarious mummy who helps her out during the Egyptian phase of the game.

Bottom line is that the game kept me entertained for a few hours (it is actually quite a short game, although as I said, I cheated a few times to hurry things along). But don't expect it to win any 'game of the year' awards.

Sheer disappoinment

After the brilliance of Beyond Atlantis (Atlantis 2), I fought hard to get a copy of BA2...... Whoa, what a disappointment! From the wooden voice over delivery of the principal (I am an Acting and Voice coach so have a little experience here) to the uninspired plot, worlds, and game in general. Additionally, the game ran very roughly on my computers (new one, well within the min. req)and failed to keep my interest. Did finish it, though-- in only a few hours. If you must play this game, wait until it hits your local electronics discount store in the $4.99 bin.

The Bagdad Magic Garden makes the game special

This game has one special level that makes the game sparkle and stand out for it's originality. In search of a Black Rose, the plot within the plot unfolds, in a magical midnight garden filled with strange creatures, seductive Harem girls, and a tower to the stars.

Another highly original repeating theme is the crystal skull, where you travel through brain synapses in search of the secret passage directions.

I highly recommend this game. I really enjoyed the middle sequence of jumping from small little islands up into a floating island. (Can anyone say Schizm, but with a flair of fun. Schizm was sooooo joyless).

Anyway, this game is worth every penny, and hey, some of the acting is excellent (It must be hard to transcribe French to English, and make the words fit. I can't imagine trying to voice over animation in different languages).

Beyond Atlantis 2 is beyond all expectations!

Stop what you're doing and buy this game. Seriously. But beware... once you play it, other character-based adventure games will seem like Pinball with Regis and Kathie Lee.

I bought Beyond Atlantis 2 on a whim, and was more than pleasantly surprised when I discovered that it is the most clever, involved, challenging, and beautifully designed program I have ever put inside my PC. Each world is like an entire game unto itself-- and the soundtrack is comprised of a rich variety (probably 20 or more tracks!) of well-composed, Moby-esque music that I would actually purchase on its own if it was available.
The graphics are amAZing, and the scenery and action so flawless and fun to watch that at times this game holds the entertainment value of a movie.

Again, I assert: buy this game, buy this game, please trust me and buy this game.

p.s. I haven't played Beyond Atlantis (the original) yet, but hopefully it's just as good! Now ordering...

Enjoyable Game from a 40 yr old

I'll admit to using walkthroughs right off because more often than not I either get lost, or the puzzles frustrate the heck out of me and I'm short-tempered. Even with a walk-through this was fun for me. My reason for buying a game like this is because of the landscapes and the animated sequences. In this game, they are beautiful! As an artist, though, my one complaint extends to the heroine herself - her hands/wrists/arms never quite moved naturally. It was kind of creepy.

I've read several reviews where folks didn't much care for the heroine's "deadpan" and "monotone" voice. Honestly, I don't think it was her problem. The dialogue she had to work with didn't really give her much of a chance to emote.

Either way, for me those negatives did not deter from enjoying the game. If you want a game where you can just relax and get lost for awhile, I believe this is a good one.
