Award winning Machinima film made with this game

I'm not a PC gamer and haven't played with a flight sim for a long time. I only know of this game from watching Bill et John, a hilariously funny aerial comedy made using Lock On: Modern Air Combat. There are 2 full episodes plus one teaser to date, and from downloading and watching these, especially Episode 2, "The Danger Attacks at Dawn", I'm ready to buy a new PC, or a new Mac Pro and Windows XP just so I can play this game. For those who are doubtful of the capabilities of this game, watch Bill et John, shot entirely within the virtual world of Lock On.

Machinima is filmaking within 3D virtual reality, usually a game. Watch and learn about Machinima at Machinima.com. Popular Machinima films and series are "Red vs. Blue", "Borg War" (Star Trek), and one of my favorites, " A Great and Majestic Empire" made inside of Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.

Poorly Designed, many flaws.

Lock On: Modern Air Combat is not worth the money and even if it were free, it wouldn't be worth your time. I bought my first FS software to fly the number one freeware aircraft simulator on the Internet - The TR-3B Flying Triangle.

I flew fighters for the Air Force in late Vietnam, specifically the F-111 and am rated commercial also. The TR-3B Flight Simulator for Microsoft's Flight Sim, is based on the writings, lectures, and TV interviews of Edgar Fouche who wrote "Alien Rapture." (See amazon)

Why? This is what the genius who developed it wrote: "For the experienced flight simmer on FS2002 PRO, I have developed this complete exotic amphibian TR-3B package, which is now available as freeware for download. It includes 3 models - the purple Astra, blue Locust and white Hellas - and as an extra 4th model the TR-3X with its own speedy attacker flight dynamics. The package includes TR-3B panel & gauges, noise cancellation sounds, fsuipc and special lights effects.

This TR-3B is a heavy tactical reconnaissance aircraft equipped with a magnetic field disruptor that reduces the weight by 89 percent (it is not the same as anti-gravity, though). It has been created for Microsoft Flight Simulator. All gauges are included.

The TR-3B can float like a speedboat at Mach 1.5 over water, fly like a heavy helicopter, like a bush plane, a business jet, like a military jet and lift like a rocket. Cruise speed is approx Mach 4.7 at FL340 and above, and approx Mach 2 at sea level. Service ceiling approx 69,000 feet ASL. Super stable. FSFREEWARE, SURCLARO, FSPLANET aircraft simulator sites have reported as many as 5000 downloads in one week!
I searched and read many many web pages about his book and the author, Edgar Fouche including; startfinish(put in the dot com.)biz/wise Click on links for Fouche and Flying Triangle. You will find his full presentation, and the download links for the TR-3B. Great Top Secret aircraft simulator which I recommend, and fantastic details on it. So try some of the free aircraft simulators instead of the poorly designed Lock On: Modern Air Combat.

best game ever ,with a few flaws

I am an serious and experianced fligth simmer.I have every simulaer and top of the line $100+ joysticks. I found this under a PC PILOT MAGAZENE ****star revue that lead me to buying this amazing sim.
If you take the time to do the tutorials this game is aweosme, with realilistic AI and hundres of modes. But it has one major flaw that led me to e-baying it: you have to memorise tons of keyboard combinations to change to a difrent gun, from AIR TO AIR ,AIR TO GROUNG,CANNONS, ect. rent it of try a frends befor you buy. UNTILL THAN KEEP AWAY!

Waste of Money So Far

I just purchased this garbage game a few days ago, so it has the patch and keycard, but it's a waste of hard drive space. I spent a lot of time configuring the game AND computer, but it still crashes and has more problems than one can imagine. The blue screen of death is common and results in a major reboot of the computer. The manual is useless as well. How anyone can say this game is great is just lucky it works on their system, which is probably 25% of the people who paid for it. Maybe one day this game will work, but it'll be a LONG time from now.

this is just a review of their ftp site

I haven't finished downloading this game yet but their FTP site is really slow. And can only handle 325 connections. Thus the link from the web site to download it didn't work, I had to go and get it the old way G.I. Joe Style. And even now I'm only getting about 30-40K down stream. [GROAN] However the screen shots look really cool.

...IF YOU GET IT TO WORK, IT'S GREAT

IT HAS SOME PROBLEMS TO GET IT TO RUN PROPERLY...START AT THE LOW DEFAULT SETTINGS FOR GRAPHICS. EVEN THEN I ONLY GOT IT TO RUN ON FAST BATTLE PLANNER AND TRAINING...BUT BELEIVE ME, IT IS AS REAL AS IT CAN GET. DEFINITELY WORTH THE $ 39. HOPE UBISOFT GET THE PATCHES OUT FAST.

Lots to learn

I'm neither a flightsim novice nor a pilot. I won't try to insult those who don't like LOMAC. This sim isn't for everyone. The documentation is lacking, and the learning curve is high. It helps to have a modern machine to run it. There is enough feedback on the web to teach you how to overcome some of the out-of-the-box problems (blue screen of death). Have patience and do the training missions, and you'll learn more each time you fly. If you don't have patience, and if you haven't the ability to learn complex 'games' then don't buy LOMAC. You'd be wasting your money. But if you're relatively smart and willing to learn, go for it! You'll be glad you did...

purchased but never played

I purchased this game because all my friends were telling me it was a great game. I purchased it and 2 days after it arrived I threw it in the trash.
I assume it is a very good game.

If you have the patience to get over the quirks especially if you own a Saitek x-52, this game is one of the best out there like MS Flight Simulator X.

Flight-Sim Enthusiasts Rejoice

I have been searching for the most realistic Flight Simulator game out there for about two years now. I have tried Microsoft Flight Simulator X and been disappointed by its lack of combat. I have tried a few WWII flight sims, but those are not quite what I was looking for. The Ace Combat series was the only game that I found which had jets shooting down jets, yet their arcade-style and unrealistic quantities of ammo let me down.

Lock-On: Modern Air Combat (LOMAC) is the most realistic jet flight simulator that I could find, and it came at an incredible price. There are only 6 planes available to fly (technically 8 or 9, but that's because there are different country variations of the Mig-29) so that's an annoyance, but it will take you just about a month and a half or longer to perfect flying just one of these planes.

The impossibility of mid-air refueling, (i.e. it's quite challenging)the struggle of carrier landings, and the ever-prominent challenge of choosing the right radar for your target all make this game one of the most realistic flight sims out there.

I encourage this game for anyone who enjoys the challenge of realistic flight-simulation.

Final statement
the campaigns are a tad short (about 7-10 missions), but you can make your own. Having only 2 US planes is an annoyance (A-10 and F-15) along with only 1 carrier plane (SU-33), but I guess can live with that. The online community is quite small, too, (16 players online at this moment, 1 PM) but there is almost always someone there. Finally, if this gets boring you can order LOMAC Flaming Cliffs the successor, or LOMAC Gold which has both the original and Flaming Cliffs for about $20.
