I have played, and owned almost every good military sim on the market since the year 2000 when I started becoming interested in turning my simple desktop PC into a full-blown, afterburning sim station! I'm also a commercial pilot so I am very critical about games that claim to be "sims" but are actually just games. When this game came out the reviews had me extremely excited about something that was supposed to be even better than Falcon 4.0! Yeah Right! If there is one thing that every serious sim must have it is a fully-clickable cockpit. I'm not going to try and memorize a couple hundred different key combinations for one sim! Sure the graphics are good if you can get the game to run at a descent frame rate, but we all know that physics, not graphics make a great sim. Falcon 4 and the Janes games are still king after all these years!

BEST BOREDOM SIMULATOR!

This is one of the worst games I've played. I was expecting to blow things up and scream thru the air with awesome special effects, something like in Ace Combat for PS2. Instead, I got dozens and dozens of tedious little keyboard buttons I had to learn (joystick is pretty much useless in this game), slowest gameplay, NO ACTION, boring scenes, ugliest user interface and maps!

Try accelerating/throttling the jets in this simulator; you can barely tell the difference. Feels like you are watching some slow-motion video thru out the entire simulation.

There's no way flying any JET aircraft can be this boring. C'mon, I'm flying fighter jets, not some lame aircraft from Microsoft Flight Simulator! Some realistic simulator this is. However, I think this game is a great BOREDOM SIMULATOR.

I'm running Athlon XP 2800+ 512MB DDR with super fast ATI Radeon AIW 9700! Well beyond recommended system requirements! But this game crawls, with occasional choppy pauses. To top it all off, it takes forever to load. Playing and waiting for this game is incredibly stressful. Biggest waste of my money and time! NEGATIVE 2000 STARS!

why do people write obvious lies with their 1 star review?

here's one example ...."I carried my computer to a professional programer and he said he called the company and they said with all the pacthes (witch were about several hundred) it still might not work."

there is one patch, and it helps, but the game ran fine out of the box for me. Some people NEED the patch though: it helps those with win98/ME or NF2 mobo's in particular. If you don't have a high end PC you'll have to turn the graphics options down. Some of the graphics options are so advanced (the planes cast shadows on themselves) that this game will look good for years.

What you get is a flight sim, so expect to have to learn to fly and fight in each aircraft as if it was completely different from the last... well a10's and SU33's are pretty different after all.

At the moment with Patch 1.01 we get excellent multiplayer, realistic aircraft to fly, beautiful graphics, and a full featured, but easy to use mission creator that will give this sim endless scope.

On the down side the patch has messed up the training missions, but they are still usuable. With the post-release support we are seeing I would expect new training missions to be released soon. The manual leaves a lot to be desired (and it leaves a lot to be learned), bu tht esim itelf more than makes up for this.

Buggier Than A Roach Motel

After trying the Demo, placing this sim on pre-order, having the release date pushed out a few times and waiting months for what I thought (acording to all the Internet Buzz) was going to be an A+ flight sim (Finally!), I am unfortunately very disappointed. This sim is in no way ready for release. This reminds me of the original Falcon 3.0, a great sim in-the-making but never quite made into a great sim.

My system is a P4 3.06, Radeon 9800pro, 1GB Ultra RAM, SB Audigy 2 Platinum, 2x 120 GB drives, Win XP, Direct X 9b - cutting edge. Sim still wont run for long without KaBoom.

I even reloaded the sim twice, re-installed DirectX 9b, verified all drivers current. I went so far as to load it on my old Dell 8100 P4 1.5, GeForce2 Ultra, 512 MB, SB Live Platinum, Win XP, DX9b - No-Go there either. It runs for a short while but never completes a mission without some strange crash. The User Interface is very sslllooowww to respond as well.

Here are some of the probs encountered so far, but I suspect there are 100's of bugs in this code:
* Slow/sluggish response for random periods of time.
* Sound card "feedback". Sounds just stop randomly and a terrible hissing feedback blasts you until you kill the sim.
* Video problems, many, many video problems.
* Dumps to desktop.

Not really a bug, but it sucks anyway:
* Documentation sucks big-time. There are dozens of cockpit controls but NO docs on them. You have to go into the OPTIONS screen to even see what your controls are mapped to and you cannot do that without dumping the sim in progress.

This is a sim with TONS of potential. The graphics are great and it has a good "feel". I wish I could say more good about this sim but I am not able to complete even a single simple mission to be able to tell. This could be a winner, though, if patches fix the numerous issues, but I seriously doubt that they will ever sufficiently "patch" this for all systems out there.

This sim is not release ready and should have spent months more in Dev and weeks more in playtest. It is very disappointing after so long a wait.

I have a pretty updated PC with 6 different flight simulator games. My machine has 1.6 Ghz 512 RAM, video card with 126 MB mem and this much advertised Flight sim. is not working. Takes for ever to load it. Once you in a flight mode there is no access to the necessery key stroke unless you get out of the flight mode and get back to the option window OR you memorize (I count it)139 differente key stroke variations. Hardware acceleration have to be turned of ect...ect. The joy stick can only be programed (it is pre programed)to basic flight movement. Everything works off the keyboard. It was an absolute waist of money. This PC game is a joke

i could not be happier

Don't buy it unless you know it works on with your hardware. Don't believe the pumpers on this site - on an AMD2700+ with a 512M memory, GF4 Ti4400 (W98SE) it does not rock. It does not even crawl. It may be the OS, it may be the graphic card, or anything else - I don't care. I buy a game expecting it to work right out of the box. With normal QA such product simply does not leave the doors. No wonder the release date was pushed back so many times. Still, they just could not fix it. Dont' get me wrong, I would love to play it (had the Flanker versions 2 .. 2.5), but got tired after trying for two days.
- With W98SE don't even dream of starting it without the patch (have no idea if anybody made it work on a W95 at all)
- Subsequent starts of the same mission after a while result in slowing down the game to unlpayable. Get out, restart the OS (just the game won't do...) - yes, perfect gaming experience :(
- Frequent crashes of the system (why not when you finally managed to get the bad guys) are just by far too annoying.

Summary - I would have agreed on getting something less shiny but working. It may have been a financial issue, contracts, etc, but the game was released in a pre-alpha stage. If you have the "wrong hardware" you will be disappointed. Just like I was seing this quality after the Flanker :( Whoever made it work on his PC have fun, there is an increasing number of people who feel the brand burned. I will think twice before buying anything from them. It was a bad call.

One star goes for the idea. :(

PS: If it's the OS don't be ashamed to write on the box the requiremens...

Demanding Game Requires Intelligence and Ability to Read

Amazing when I read people giving this fantastic simulation low ratings because they can't run it properly and they mention their hardware in their reviews which include video cards that do not meet the minimum specs that are PRINTED ON THE BOX!!! If you are can't read or you have trouble reading instructions and Read Me files then don't bother with this game. If you are look for a console shoot 'em up game then pass on this simulation that takes intelligence to run.

This is the best modern combat flight sim I have EVER played. Those of you having problems obviously don't know what you are doing.

Just a game, definately no sim

Very poorly put together, feels half done, flight models are just way off track, feels like an aircade game.

As a current fast jet pilot, this game doesn't capture any of the experience of flying a modern combat jet. Campaign is attrocious it's you vs the world in scripted missions that get boring very quickly (assuming you have a supercomputer that you can get it playing in any reasonable graphical detail without huge stutters etc). Many other sims that are much older do a much better job.

Thumbs down.

Can't believe I waited a year for this crap

This game will not run on windows ME. You will need something equivelant or better than big blue. You might then be able to get atari graphics. One big stink.
