I'll make it short...One of the best games I own, great graphics and sound, doesn't get old...Plain brilliant! It improves on the two towers and its waaaay better than the third age.You get tons of characters to chose from once you beat the game, and I've played it over and over again to level up all the characters! If you want a Lord of the Rings game this is definetly the best one.

Nice...

I'm really sick of all of these people writing reviews that say things like "This game will be five stars when it comes out." If you haven't played it yet shut your mouth. Anyway, I have played it. For the first time in a long time I spent full price for this video game when it came out. It was well worth it. I give it 5 stars, though it does have a few things tht sort of bug me. First of all there is some repetition and some imbalences between the characters. For instance all of the characters have their strengthes and weaknesses and a "special move" The special move for Aragorn, Gimli, and Legolas are all the same as well as the special move for Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin. Kind of dumb. Also, if you get all characters to lvl 10 Aragorn Legolas and Gandalf would destroy all the others. The dwarf is dirt slow with a short reach and crappy ranged capabilities. The hobbits are....the hobbits. True-it is a short game but it's a lot of fun. I personally will take quality over quantity anyway of the week. The environments are great as well as the voice acting. Graphic are nice as always along with the movie to game transitions. The only funnny graphics flaw is that it will show, for instance, Aragorn's face up close and he will shout something but his mouth and face don't move at all. A little known fact about Aragorn (and the other characters who have the same malfunction) is that he is actually a part-time ventriloquist! I shouldn't bash the game though, I seriously recommend buying it. It may be hack and slash but its the best hack and slash I have ever seen. By the way...if you are going to buy it then make sure to have someone else who likes to play because Co-Op is a blast. The only problem I see with it is the fact that it isnt split-screen (which is a good thing) so understandably 2 characters can't be X amount of distance away from each-other at any given time. This is fine except that sometimes to have to get somewhere to the right very quickly and the other person is still beheading some orcs over to the left. This can get obnoxious but nothing the programmers could have done about it . Oh-before I finish....cover your ears during the cutscenes unless you want to SPOIL THE MOVIE! Unless you have read the book like me you will not want to do it. Maybe don't even buy the game until the film hits theatres Dec. 17.

Fun, challenging game...

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is a pretty good game from EA. Worth a rent and maybe a buy if your fan of the series (which I am). I'm satisfied with my buy. The game in nothing epic, but overall very fun and extremely challenging the first time through.
Graphics: The Graphics are incredibly detailed. The backgrounds are amazing, the makers of this game spent a lot of time with detail if this game and it shows. When things break apart or explode, you see every piece crumble and hit the ground, like when towers collapse over you in fierce battles. Although in some places, there is unacceptable slowdown, or lag. The framerate suffers.
Replay Value: You wouldn't think this game has replay value but it does. The levels are simply fun and a worthy of multiple plays, plus there are plenty of unlockable features such as interviews and production art. There is also a new co-op mode where two players can play at the same time. As you would suspect it is extremely fun. It adds hours of gameplay.
There are 6 playable characters. They are Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Frodo, Sam, and best of all... Gandalf. There are also 3 unlockable characters. There are 15 levels and a secret level.
Pretty good game, give it a try.

Great game to a point.

I loved the movie. I got this game for christmas and I am not dissapointed. However, EA games is really falling apart. I honestly don't know how hard it is to make a game not bad.

The game is a hack and slash. Hit a constantly and your pretty much good. The levels are extremely well done but just man after man after man. The graphics are really good though. Lots of action.

There are quite a few problems though. One, your allies do nothing. The path of the king levels are you with legolas and gimli. They do nothing and it is all you. Another huge problem is some levels are stupid. The path of the king levels are boring. It isn't fun hacking the dead over and over because it feels meaningless. Then it comes to the worst level of the game, the dead king. You beat him(a hard battle) then you run to the exit. I fight and get outnumbered 50 to one but I still beat the undead somehow. Still, if you've played it numerous times then you will know what I am talking about. Sometimes random rocks fall and kill you. There is NOTHING you can do. I have played the level a billion times because I just die to some random rock falling or because I go a little backwards.

The game does have its good points. Good characters, some extras, and awesome environments(with the exclusion of the first few aragorn levels). The bad points though greatly overshadow the good. Once you beat the dead king level though, you probably won't play it again. Besides, the game is kinda short so 50 dollars is still a little high. Once it goes down to like 30, then buy it.

Lord Of The Rings 1+2 were the best movies + games I've ever seen/played. After seeing the game preview I knew I needed this game. If you liked the Two Towers then you're sure to love this one. I also know the Hobbit is coming out, but I don't recomend it [it looks childish]. If you're a Lord of the Rings fan or not you're sure to love this game.

Special features include

- More characters then the last game

- 1 or more players

- Harder, more challenging levels

- More levels and bosses

This game rocks!

I love this game because it is just like the movie! You feel like you are in the game.
If the orcs in the movie scare you don't buy this, but if you are ok with the movie this game is a must.
The graphics are so good in this game that sometimes I think that it is a movie clip. You can be Gandolf, Frodo, Aragorn, and more!

Entertaining but I beat it in a week

I thought this game was much easier than the Two Towers. I liked how you can play as nine different characters instead of just Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli. Gandalf is the best character becasue he can shoot power blast out of his staff. The levels really follow the book and the movie really well. They started the Hobbbits path with escape from Oglislith only because they wouldn't have had many other levels with them. The Black Gate is a great level and I'm so happy none of the orcs have sheilds besides the big ones. I was really disappointed that all four hobbits are basically the same and they're all pretty weak. I wish they had had Eomer in it because he's so cool. I also thought it was way too easy and you should probably and if you don't like to play games over and over well you wont like this one. The secret level stunk too. A good game but too easy.

Overall a pretty good video game

Return of the King was a fantastic moives. The money it made at the box office and the 11 for 11 at the Oscars all speaks merit. The video game isn't a disappointment either.

The story to the game is the same as it is in the movie and follows it very closely. In the game there are three paths you must take. You can be either Aaragorn, Gimli, or Legolas working your way to Minas Tirith. You must recruit the army of the dead along the way. After that you work your way to the black gate to make a last stand.

There is the path of the wizard. In this you get to play as Gandalf. You go to Isengard, and then on to the battle of Minas Tirith. Gandald is an awesome character.

The third path is that of the Hobbits. You play as Sam and you must help Frodo. You escape from Osgiliath, Work your way through Shaleobs Lair, then onto Morus Mongol, and finally Mt.Doom where you must destroy the ring.

The single player mode is alright. This isn't the hardest game in the world. It took me a little over a week to take out the single player mode. You can change the difficulty setting which does make the game harder.

Co-op mode is fun. In this mode you getto play with another human being and there are two characters instead of one. Me and my brother had a lot of fun playing this mode and beat the game in a little over a day in this mode.

The specials in the game are kind of neat. As you progress along you unlock interviews with the stars talking about the game and the movie. There are some specials on the making of it, and it's kind of interesting. The video looks alright and it's provided by DivX.

I was a little disappointed with the secrets in the game. The two secret levels stink, but I liked all the special characters. The Hobbits are all the same, but Feramir is cool. I also like how you can mix and match your characters on levels after you've beaten the game.

This is a good game. I'm glad we own it, and I've enjoyed many hours playing it. I wouldn't pay more than $30 for it, but if you can find it for under that, you have a sure fire winner. It's a good game.

Hail to the king, baby!

I am a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings Series, and this game is almost as enjoyable as its movie counterpart. It combines great levels with insaane co-op gameplay to make an awesome game. Here is my overview of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
I don't have to review the storyline; it's Lord of the Rings, people! There's nothing to it. The gameplay is awesome. It actually proves that another beat-em up with a lot of combos can be fun. The section where you buy the upgrades is much more organized than that of Fantastic Four (see my review on that game). The co-op gameplay is extremely fun if you play with a friend. However, during co-op, the camera gets really frustrating because both players play on one screen. The graphics on this game look as if the movie's CGI team designed them (that's a good thing). But the camera is far away from the player so you really cant get a good view of the fighting or the character's face. I completed this game in about three weeks and i still pop the CD into my Gamecube from time to time.
This is a great game for any Lord of the Rings fan and, if the camera was a bit better, I would give this game five stars. I recommend this game to anyone.

I will admit, I am slightly biased, because nothing about The Lord of the Rings appeals to me. However, I played through the first two games, and found them ejoyable and stunningly rendered.

Yet this third installment offers absolutely nothing new. If you have played "Fellowship" and "Towers," you will know what this game is, what it will look like, and how it will play. Nothing has changed. The graphics are beautiful, but we have seen that in the last two. If something happens twice, it ceases to be amazing.

I tried not to let my bias affect my view. I could not, however, enjoy playing the same game for the third time.
