* - ONE STAR
=============

If you want the most boring, and utterly confusing / frustrating game of the year, this is the one for you....

My first encounter popping this in, was one of interest, but it quickly became clear that this game was going to be tough to follow. It's a first person shooter game{which I really can't stand}, and the graphics aren't all that impressive...

As for gameplay, it was a major struggle for the momment I was shipwrecked on the island. The characters just up and walked away from me, leaving me to sit there and try to figure out where the hell they went, and how the hell I was suppose to find whatever the hell it was I'm suppose to be looking for. I could hear them calling me in the distance, but could never figure out which direction to go in order to move the game forward...

Confusing???...This game gives you no clues, no sense of direction, and basically leaves you stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere, with nothing to do but get eaten by monsters and such. No fun at all...

I couldn't even play as KONG!! They make you search, and find KONG before actually allowing you to be able to play as KONG. LAME AS HELL best describes this game...

Go buy "Shadow Of The Colossus" if you want to experience what a great, intense, and fun game is all about. KONG SUCKS!!! AVOID...

Nice graphics, nice music but........

This game suffered the "GEORGE LUCAS SYNDROME".A lot of effects and no story at all.The typical 3D shooter, you just walk around and shoot lobsters and maggets and worms, and thats all.Very nice graphics and music, but your brains can be in the last stage of the alzheimer and you still can win the game.You dont even have to look for nothing, no trap doors or secret tunnels, just wait until the other characters tell you to move on.You stay in some scenes 2 or 3 minutes shooting worms and then a rock falls and you move on through that hole.
I just hope the movie will be better than this.

not even worth a rental.

wow, this game is bad, and i mean BAD. the graphics are "decent" - the PC king kong graphics are far better. at first it seems like the game may be going somewhere, because the script seems pretty cool, but you quickly find out the shooting is very boring (if you want a good ps2 shooting game, try timesplitters: future perfect). nonetheless i was determined to give this game a fair shot...

too bad it wouldn't let me. i kept going forward and got literally stuck by an invisible wall glitch. the woman said "follow me!" and so i did.. and i couldn't go any further through the invisible wall. oh no! my terribly subpar gaming experience was ruined by a BUG! oh well. king kong for the ps2 is a terrible game, with or without game-ruining bugs.

the PC version is another story. it's a lot more involving and has far superior graphics.

BUY IT FOR THE "FREE MOVIE TICKET!!!"...LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boy, Peter Jackson's King Kong keeps proving to be a disappointment. First, there's the movie: about one hour too long and unredeemably boring for a monster ape movie. Now, there's the game.

Maybe it's a fun game, but I played it for an hour and kept dying at the same spot. This was partly due to the handicaps that come with a first person perspective. With no peripheral vision, I often got killed by something just to my right / left that I couldn't see coming in time. Another weak spot was the lack of ammunition. Perhaps that's realistic, but it's annoying to be killed by monsters when I have a gun, but I've burned all the bullets. You can use spears, but they're hardly effective, especially when you fight five or six monsters. Plus, you don't have a health meter, so after two or three hits, you just "die" unless you can get to someplace safe and recover. Very irritating.

Even worse, I didn't get to a single Kong stage before I got too bored and frustrated to play any more. Just like the film, Kong is relegated to a secondary role in his own game.

Maybe if I'd stuck with it a little longer, I would've liked it. But a game shouldn't make you work that hard to like it. It should be entertaining, not annoying. And you shouldn't get stuck on the first level. Especially when you're an experienced gamer.

There's a lot of annoying voice acting, too. It's not the acting itself that's bad, but the sheer repetition of it. Anne must say "Oh my God," at least once a minute.

Highly recommend you skip this and find an old copy of "War of the Monsters" instead.

Good but not great

This game is pretty good. The graphics and sound is amazing. But however the game does get boring after awhile. And the game is easy. I beat it in one day. And you don't play King Kong in alot of levels. And when you are Kong the levels aren't very long. But beating up dinosaurs and other creaturs are pretty fun but that's mostly what you do. And when your Jack you get more longer and boring levels. And sometimes you don't know when your running out of ammo.And you don't always get alot of ammo. And when you have the snipper gun it takes a long time to reload. You don't want that gun when your in a dangerous situation. But when you play it you will want to go see the movie even more. The game dosn't spoil anything or give you clips of the movie like so many other games based on movies. So you won't know if much of the storyline in the game is in the movie. Anyway go rent it first before buying it.

An intense game but not enough to warrent buying

This is a good fps and it has a lot of intense moments both as Jack and Kong. It looks great and plays well. But it is short and the tasks you do in the game get old fast. You end up fighting with spears for the most part and the gun selection is minimal. Playing as kong is pretty cool but it's nothing fantastic. But something to check out as a rental.

Could have been so much more

Unlike Peter Jackson's magical remake of the classic ape romp, King Kong the video game is sadly disappointing. Combining two gameplay elements, a first person shooter and a third person adventure, King Kong provides a good amount of fun gameplay and actually has some great looking graphics for being a PS2 game, but in the long run the game is too short and too linear, which is a big disappointment for something that could have been something really special. As you've heard by now, you play as Jack in the first person shooter elements dodging dinosaurs and other monsters on Skull Island; all the while following Jack Black around. This element is fun for a while, but it becomes repetitive after a while as well. The game really kicks into high gear when you are able to play as the big ape himself in a slam bang third person beat 'em up as you swing around, go toe to toe with T-rexes, and beat your chest a lot. As the game winds up, you are Kong again in New York, leading up to it's inevitable conclusion. The sad part is, it doesn't take long to finish the game, and when playing as Kong, how linear the game really is can be seen. It's sad that King Kong is so disappointing in terms of it's length and overall delivery. However, King Kong isn't a bad game at all, and it's definitely worth a rental at least for those looking for a good action game, it's just a shame that it could have been so much more.

bad graphics

Everyone makes a big deal about graphics in video games these days. Why do the ones in King Kong stink so much? Granted, I've seen worse, but this game could totally pass for a PS1 game. The action parts offer a nice amount of excitement, though.

fun game involves lots of thinking

king kong is an incredible game with great graphics and gameplay!I haven't beat it yet because the mission I'm on doesn't even make sence.you have to get fire so you can burn some bushes blocking the path.there is fire but it's behind a waterfall so if you try to take the fire back you can't because it will get burnt out.the anoying thing is the raptors,once you kill two a few minutes later two come after you agian.i like playing as kong.you can break the jaws of the beast your fighting.you can even hear it break!another thing that stinks is you run out of ammunition alot and have to use a spear most of the time.so trying to kill some pest is really hard!overal it's a great game i don't think it's worth $50.00 so wait until it goes down to $30.00.might want to rent it first to see how it is.
