Amusing Game

My girlfriend bought Pimp My Ride for me for my birthday (for PS2), I wasn't even aware it was coming out (and like most of you, i had a lot of trouble finding any information on it after she told me she reserved a copy for me). But i've been playing it for the past 2 days or so and I find it to be pretty fun... The best way i can explain it is that it's like a cross between Need For Speed Underground (as far as the customizing), any of the Grand Theft Auto games after #3 (as far as driving around town and people trying to leap out of your way and being able to smash stuff on the side of the road and whatnot... if you've ever played Midnight Club, that might be a better comparison), and Dance Dance Revolution or Guitar Hero because of some of the games you play to get money to do the pimping... i mostly say that because it's got button combinations you have to hit within a certain amount of time to complete the task.

I was mildly dissapointed that all the cars in the game are made up for the game... i guess maybe they couldn't get licensing from real car companies, but all the cars in the game are loosely based on real cars (VW Microbus, Dodge Caravan, Older Mustang, etc.)

If you're not a fan of Xzibit's music (or rap in general), it'll probably annoy you as far as that goes... I've also noticed that the soundtrack is very limited, seems that it's only got 3 or 4 songs looping continuously... and if you're in the middle of a song and you do a 10-second "holla" mission (or anything else like that) the music track starts over at the beginning.

I really don't play with my PS2 too much... I'm not really what you'd call an "avid" gamer, i usually have other (better) things to do, but I've been playing this game for about 2 days straight, and in that amount of time managed to beat the game.

The biggest real complaint I have about it is that it gets kinda repetitive... after you figure out the sequence of how everything works, it's really easy to just keep using that same sequence over and over to keep completing missions...

But, if i were to give this game a rating, i'd give it a 4/5. Very entertaining, not perfect, but it got me hooked for a couple days and it's pretty rare for a game to do that to me... however now that I've beaten the game (and got perfect scores on all of the cars) there's nothing to keep me playing it.

not what i expected

when i got the game, i expected a kinda cool custom car game. but all it is a bunch of mini-games that never change and very bad car controlls...

when you have to make money in the first half, you play mini-games that involve "ghostriding". VERY BAD. Driving controlls are terible. and you always seem to crashed in a lightpost every 5 seconds.

The pimping process is kinda cool. but you only have 2 min. to pimp out sombody's car. and your going againts a rival pimper. but some of the car add-ons are cool

Bottom line: not that great, but fun pimping process. PS: there are only 2 mini-games that go on through out the whole game

Cheesy, but could be worth it as long as you buy it used

Thankfully, I received this game as a gift and didn't have to see fifty of my own dollars go into this incredibly cheesy. I have every respect for the couple of people on here who've complained that it was a waste of dough. It is if you pay fifty bucks for this cheapo game that obviously wasn't that great of an effort to make. Buy it used for twenty-five dollars or less.

The game is basically like Need for Speed Underground without all of the free-roam activities. The entire game is set out for you so you can really only do one thing at a time: whatever they make you do. The game is repetitive, the levels are all the same, and the skill level never really advances beyond easy. That said, it does have a great sort of arcade style personality and yet remains true to the show on MTV with loads of cool and unique gadgets that you can put into the contestant's cars that match with their profiles. The game is a tight-wadded bit of fun for a lazy Sunday afternoon, with nothing that's going to be appropriate for a serious day of gaming. The player does bear witness to some amusing lines from Xzibit and the really moronic characters featured in the game. It's cheap entertainment but don't expect it to change your life in any way. It is fairly fun, but not as fun as a lot of other games I have and it certainly doesn't break any barriers.
