ok Finally a good pirate game that didnt need a movie to get created. very fun multi player options and Many ships to choose from to go head to head against one another in this title. you adventure as Kat a notorious pirate (how she got to be notorious i dunno) that must go to a variety of islands and different land zones to complete various platformer type objectives while using hack n slash rpg style elements.

Graphics: 4 stars (could have been better but its old)
Sound: 3 stars (water and cannons sound good enemies dont.)
Overall: multiplayer adds a star making this one a 4 star purchase. (might want to rent first due to current pricing.)

One of the most underrated games for the PS2 along with Beyond Good and Evil. This game is a lot of fun as you explore islands for treasure, fight giant crabs, pirates, and other evil doers, and best of all, fight on the open sea with cannons blazing! I love pirate games and there are few out there that satisfy. If you like Pirates of the Carribean then get this game. The only complaint I have is the ending was sort of a let down (I like a good long FMV). Otherwise, worth its weight in gold.

The game is addictive..... I find myself going back to it, to wage another battle with a Manowar or to hunt for more treasure.
The only frustrating thing I find is that sometimes the camera is difficult for me to direct in the direction most helpful while I am in combat.

buy this game for the ship battle

A very boring game. Nothing to do but run around and become bored. The sea battles are nothing to brag about as they are boring as well except they have more noise when a ship blows up. Got to the end of this game and thought, "wow, I never knew it was so cool to be bored."
Same enemies over and over again, except at sea, as the game progresses, one runs into more and more ships.
But on the upside, the game is like a Disney trip. At Disney land, you can stand in a long line and be bored and when you get to your ride, you are too tired to be excited. Same in this game, spend all day running around and when you get into a battle it is so boring that you might feel like saying, "wow, this is so cool to be bored."
This game wouldn't hold the attention of a 4 year old. In fact this game made me think I had ADD.
Rent this first, and then if you think it is cool to be bored, buy it.

I'm having fun

The game doesn't have that many options and it's kind of repidative but I'm having fun playing it. Basically you're a girl pirate you have a ship and a sword and your dad dies. Ya kinda sucky but you start going around beating people down.

The ship concept is awesome, basically you start out with a ship with 2 cannons then you get more money and your ship gets bigger and you get alot more cannons. How many more cannons you ask? Well a big boat holds 50 cannons per side, not bad... Oh ya you get different thingies (Sorry can't remember what they're called) to put on the front of your boat. Like one lets you ram other evil boats, one lets you shoot lightning cannons balls etc...

I like the ship concept better then playing as the girl, but shes pretty cool, she gets two swords and you get different betters swords as the game progresses. The fighting style is like fencing, it looks pretty cool

Well that's all I have, I liked it and had fun playing it.

Flawed but entertaining

This game is good fun if you like Pirate games. It is flawed - sometimes frustrating, too linear, and a[crummy]story, but if you like pirates, then the graphics and sounds are great fun.

My biggest peeve is the ridiculous attempt to make the main character to be a 'goody' - you're a PIRATE for crying out loud! I suppose it was felt that it was immoral or dangerous for kids to play the role of a 'baddy'. The crazy thing is that in removing the historical context of story, the moral, historical and geographical lessons kids/adults might learn is lost. Or maybe this is what the establishment wants...

The three men in the house (30 something/5/2 LOVE this game! It was such a hit as a rental we HAD to buy it. The game has a lot of depth..lots of items to collect from many islands to complete the game(my husband loved this as it was more complex). My 2 year old and 5 year old love to just do sea battles against each other picking their color "sails" and type of boats to fire cannons at and out manuever/ram each other. It is worth the [$$] in entertainment value (our most played game by far)and a MUST have in your PS2 collection at [$$]! I like the beautiful graphics at sea..but am only a spectator.

Pirates-legend of a less than average platformer

Stupid. When you start out you realize that you're a GIRL pirate. Normally this wouldn't bother me, but the feminine voice overs are awful. You beat an island and it's like "Find your mother's grave," and when that's done, it says "Liberate your fathers FOrtress." and it does that with no story progression. This game has no storyline, it ... DOnt buy it.

Simply a fun and wonderful game

The best way i can describe Pirates "The Legend of Black Kat" is to say it is akin to going on a very long disney ride. This game is that fun. It is perfect for those who do not want the overly complex challenges that so many newer games have. While still challenging, the game actuallyn allows you to just sit back and enjoy its beauty.

As mentioned in other reviews, you have both land and see battles. The land battles feature some very simple to use but extremely fun, sword techniques. One improvment I would suggest is to have a sprint button..many times you want to be able to move faster but cannot. You also have many special weapons on land including this really awesome mini barrel bombs that you need to really time to maximum the effect. The graphics are so nice that you may just want to explore each island for sheer sightseeing enjoyment.

The sea battles are awesome. You literally shoot cannonballs and watch them soar into the distance..trying to shoot at the right angle for a connection. It is truly addicting and you have limitless angles from which to view.

Overall this is just a wonderful game that truly lets you escape to a fantasy world.

I give it my highest recommendation
