Really.. there isn't much of anything wrong with this game. I wont go so far as to say it's PERFECT but it takes a certain type of game to come close to that, and this is certainly it.

You really do feel like you're IN the world you're playing in here, and just to keep the review short and sweet-
Buy this game. It's a MUST have.

Game blows

GTA IV was a huge disapointment got bored after playing for 30 minuted, nowhere near as engaging as the past ones and the characters aren't all that appealing or likable.

A Great Game, but....

Well, the wait if finally over and boy was it a wait. A little off subject here, but if you ever decide to pre-order, use Amazon. SCREW Gamestop. I got the game a day earlier, but here is the catcher, I couldn't get to the post office in time to pick it up so I had to wait another day, lol.

Anyhow, after finally picking up my special edition copy I must say, for a special edition, it was worth it. The bag, the game art book, CD, and safe deposit box (which I have no idea what I'm going to do with, lol) with key was worth the extra $30. I did expect a bigger library of music and a strategy guide would have been nice.

Pros: The game itself is awesome. If you like the past GTA's you won't be disappointed with this game. It's San Andreas with more, much more. It's so open it's rediculous. The story line is engaging. I was up till 2am playing and would have kept playing if I didn't have to be up in the morning. I won't go into great detail. Just know, if you are a fan, you won't be disappointed. If you've never played the series and are looking for a reason to play, here is your reason. The game will make you feel stupid for never playing in the first place.

Cons: My first con is the graphics. I really expected a better appearance for a PS3 game. Next, there has been talks about game freezes. I experienced it once after installation, but it's been fine afterwards. I also have a first gen, 60GB system. Rumors have been circulating that that was the main system with the freezing problem. I haven't experienced it but once myself. Played a good 3 hours with no problems. Just a heads up. Controls aren't perfect, but I think with time, you can get used to them.

I will say, easily, this is a must buy. I haven't put in a whole lot of time which is the reason I gave it 4 stars. This is based off of what I've experienced thus far. If I get to experience what I've been reading about for months, I would easily give this a 5 star. Time, a lot of time will tell, lol.

Excellent Gameplay but...

First off, the game is super-fun! Isn't that what games are all about? The lack of the 5th star in my review is for the semi-Next-gen graphics on the character models. The city looks amazing but the character models seem like polished versions of the ones from the previous games. The fingers are bulky (I HATE that in games - is it so hard to spend a little extra time on appendages?) and the faces are, with the exception of Niko, just okay. I can't conceive them spending so much time building the gameplay, story, missions, and the city but pretty much ignoring the characters who, for me, are why I am playing.

Other than that, this game is a worthy next step in the series. After all, we are still early in the next generation. I imagine the sequels will fix most of the problems I have with the game much like San Andreas did with GTA3.

A great addition to the GTA line, but with some of the same problems

I've put a good number of hours with GTA IV under my belt by now, and have come to the conclusion that it lives up to expectations (which are very high), but doesn't quite exceed them.

GTA IV has all the free-roaming mayhem and distractions as every incarnation of the GTA series since GTA 3. The game looks great compared to its younger brethren and the characters and storyline are every bit as developed as one can come to expect.

For all it's freedom and fun though it does have some issues, which hopefully can be addressed through some updates down the road. The framerate of the graphics do lag at times, and generally are a bit less smooth than I would hope. This has been an issue with GTA since it went 3D, and is an acceptable tradeoff for the downright massive realm in which you are immersed; however with the horsepower of the PS3 behind it I really was hoping for a smoother ride.

There are a couple of bugs in the game as well, such as the controller-button-map display "rolling" and never actually giving you a clue as to what button does what. This is far from a show-stopper, and made me laugh when I found it.

Overall I'd recommend this game to any PS3 owner that isn't afraid of a M-rated game. Frankly it rocks, and as with all other GTA games it's likely to make a large withdrawal from my freetime for the next several months.

I can't stop playing it!

I've been on the GTA games since it became 3D and always liked how each games progressed. This is no exception, this games tops them all. The gameplay is really fun. You pretty much make things happen on your own by use of your cell phone. From making dates, recieving work, calling for a ride, ect. I'm having a bit of trouble signing to the multiplayer but the single player mode is holding me over until then. If you are a GTA fan then you want to add this to your collection.

Never Ending!

I hate buying games that once i beat i never play again. THIS GAME CAN AND WILL NEVER END!!!!! Even if you beat the story, (which would take days upon days if you have a life) the game has much more to see and do. The mini games are also alot of fun. If you get bored you can drive to the bowling alley, play darts, go to the strip club, and more. Its even a good time to drive around and get into police chases. I would also like to add if you have kids, you may want a different game.

Good details and graphics

Well, I bought the game when it came out. I have to say that this game is very good, so far. I just have to get used to the controls. I've noticed that some of buttons that was used to do actions in the previous GTA titles, they've changed. I mention details that make the game spectacular. First, there is the cell phone. You can actually dial it like a real phone. You can receive text-messages, and you can even change your ring tone. Out of curiosity, I even dialed 911 and was able to choose whether I wanted a police, firefighter or ambulance to come to my location. Very neat. Also, I randomly killed a man. When I when to get his money, I noticed that I actually walked on top of him and he moved. I've never seen a game where someone can walk on a dead body and it actually moves. Lots of detail there. Also, I like how the GPS system lets you know that it is going to a certain destination. That GPS comes in handy. Didn't you hate having to remember locations in the previous GTA games? Also, when cops are after you, you can hear them saying the location that you are headed in. People who reviewed this game said that the graphics are almost like PS2. I don't agree. The graphics and the lighting is exceptional. When I was in a car, I was driving under a bridge and I could see the moving shadows of the train riding by. This game is top-notch. I've just started, but I know that they'll be lots of drama. Drama is the name of the GTA game. This is likely to be the best, as far as a story line goes.

How to fix most freezing

My game was stuck this morning (5/3/08) loading into the game.

After multiple tries- still no luck.

YOU NEED TO LOG OUT OF PSN OR DISCONNECT FROM INTERNET- then you'll be ok!

As far as the game- I'll review it later.

But this fix really works.

Good luck!

Awesome after all

I got GTA 4 yesterday, and i found a loading problem; so to solve this problem just: Erase all of the GTA content recorded on PS3 Hard disc, Saved data, etc. Then reset it by pressing on/off buttom for 5 seconds, turn it on go to Settings and deactivate the Network connection and the Media content sevice, after this you can start again the installation and that's it. I worked for me. Now waiting for a patch!!

After this, i must say that i'm really impressed by the game,it's full of details and much more realistic tha ever.

Awesome Game!!!
