Very great western based game

whoa... when i first bought this game i was kinda scared that it might not be very good.but when i played it i was amazed. This game has a large variety of pistols , rifles , and projectiles. the only bad thing about it is that it is waaaaaaaaay too short. Rockstar should have put more work into this game. But with Grand Theft Auto San Andreas coming out by the same company it gives us more to look forward to.

What a fun game!!

This game is so fun. I haven't beaten it just yet because I don't get to play very often but if I played 24/7 I would probably beat it in a weekend. The levels are a bit short but still fun to play. Multiplayer just adds to the fun. If you have one of those multiplayer adapter things you can play up to 4 players.

Now for the controls. Some of the reviews you will read below will say that the controls are horrible and complicated. That is a bunch of BS. The controls are simple. You move your character with one control stick, not both, which I think is easier than using both control sticks. To shoot, you hold L1 then fire with R1. Is that very difficult to do? I don't think so. You don't really use X, triangle, square, and circle that much.

The levels are a bit short. Each level goes by quickly and the bosses are easy to beat. Some levels are harder than others but each level is pretty straightforward in what you need to do to complete it. You will play maybe 5 or 6 characters throughout the game but you are mostly one character. The graphics aren't stunning. The cutscenes are grainy and made to look like a very old western movie. Play graphics are average with not alot of small detail.

To review, Red Dead Revolver is a very fun western that has alot to unlock in multiplayer, which is also really fun (you don't go against stupid computer controlled enemies). There is a wide variety of guns from rifles to shotguns to handguns to knives and dynamite. Graphics are not impressing but don't let that discourage you from playing this game. I give it 4 stars overall because the levels could have been longer and the graphics could have been better, but other than that, Rockstar did a great job with this game.

I highly recomend this game. Fun 3rd person shooter with lots of violence and blood :) Good job Rockstar for making the first western game (the only one I've ever seen).

Entertaining, highly amusing, but too short.

This game was a long time in the making, and given the cultural popularity of the Western genre, it is surprising that a Western-themed video game should take so long to come to market. I had this game for a long time, but only recently got to play it, and when I finally got into it, it was enormously entertaining and I loved a lot of the spaghetti-western themed humor and musical score.

In the game, you will control a variety of characters (many of whom are introduced in the superb opening sequence, which plays much like the opening credits of a Sergio Leone western). Most of the time, you will play the part of Red Harlow, a half-breed bounty hunter on a mission to hunt down his parents' murderers. (Sound familiar?) You'll also get a chance to control a variety of other Western archetypes, such as the expert pistoleer English dandy, the sharpshooting, spitfire rancher's daughter, the Indian cousin of Red Harlow (who dresses like an Iroquois instead of a Sioux or other Plains Indian - but I'm nitpicking), the Negro Buffalo soldier, and you even get to play a bad guy when you assume the role of a renegade Mexican general.

The gameplay itself took a little time to get used to. For instance, to draw your gun, you must press a button down, and keep it held down while pressing another button to shoot. If you let go of the button which draws your gun, your character will holster his gun again. This was one of the quirks which made for an initially difficult learning curve. However, once the controls are mastered, combat is actually surprisingly easy. You can duck, hide behond cover, dive/roll, and jump. When guns are holstered, you can even punch and kick - and one of my favorite sequences in the whole game is the bar brawl (more stereotypical western scenes!) where you cannot use your guns, but must use fists and feet (and occassionally broken whiskey bottles) to fight your way to safety.

In addition to "normal" combat, there is a "showdown" mode which is dedicated to quick-drawing against one or more opponents. The highlight for this feature is a "tournament" (which seems inspired by the movie "The Quick and the Dead") where you battle ever-faster enemies until you win. This mode is sometimes very frustrating as you may have to replay again and again.

Overall, the graphics are okay - what helps make this title is the fact that the makers put in a grainy, old-style matinee look (like the game was a movie being played on an old-style (and worn out) projector, complete with hairlines and picture moving off-center at times. This little touch was very endearing.

While this title may not have a lot of replay value, it's still immensely fun and I would recommend it highly.

Great Western

This game is awesome. Theres a variety of places to go to. There's riding horseback, stages, and railroads but theres way too few of levels with that. They should have gotten rid of midget clowns its annoying to have those there considering it only takes one headshot for them. The way the levels are is kind of wierd since getting further into the levels shouldn't be there. Example chapter 15 will be hard but then chapter 17 will be easy. However i enjoyed this game a lot and u should too. It probaly shouldn't be rated M blood does come after almost every shot but its not much and doesn't stain anything. I reccomend this to anyone.

No other game looks or plays like this; The missions and locations are varied and colorful; The villians range from a fat guy with dynamite strapped to his person to corrupt law officials; And, as usual, Rockstar keeps the game play challenging but not overly frustrating; Lots of unlockables offer high replay. This is one of the most unique and best looking games on any system, period. I still throw this one in every 6 months for another go thru. The story is straightforward and engaging; Lots of really interesting concepts(machinegun in the coffin, crazy midgets, that whole 'dead-eye' thing...)and it controls very well. Another great game from an outstanding company. Hopefully a sequel is in the works.

THE GAME GUN AND RED DEAD REVOLVER CAME OUT AROUND THE SAME TIME AND ALL THOUGH BOTH GAMES ARE PRETTY MUCH THE SAME THEY BOTH ARE ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME GAME. BUT REALLY FUN. I WISH THEY HAD COLABORATED THE STORY'S ARE SLIGHTLY DIFFERNT BUT I REALLY ENJOYED BOTH. I FELT THAT ALL AROUND RED DEAD REVOLVER WAS A REALLY GOOD GAME. GOOD STORY, GREAT GRAPHICS, ORIGINIAL AND PACKED WITH HUMOR! CANT GO WRONG IN THE SALON'S EITHER! LOTS OF SIDE MISSIONS TO DO AS WELL I ONLY DING THE GAME ON BEING TOO MUCH LIKE GUN AND VISE VERSA!

Dissapointing

I thought that this game was going to be awesome. I was very dissapointed. The controls get very annoying and the gameplay is very redundant. There is no real strategy, you basically run around and shoot. The game is way too easy. I beat it in 4 days only playing about an hour or so a night. They could have made this game a lot better.

Red Dead isn't worth your time

I didn't expect Red Dead Revolver to be a western version of Grand Theft Auto. But I did expect the game to be much more enjoyable than it was. I'm not a skilled gamer but I was able to complete it in about 10 hours. The game play for the levels is frequently too easy. The showdowns were a neat idea but don't work. They go from being too easy to win (I won the first couple doing them the wrong way) to insanely difficult. Also, the story line jumps around a bit when introducing some characters. It reaches the extent where at one point you play one of the bad guys. It's fun but doesn't make sense in terms of the story line.

The various guys, the Western nostalga and the Dead Eye feature don't make up for the games shortcomings. They just help give it two stars instead of one.

As for the multiplayer mode, play it with friends only. It's incredibly buggy. The computer controled characters get stuck in many of the screens. Also, they aren't very good at recognizing when you're behind them shooting them. If someone's hiding behind a barn and you're standing behind them shooting them, after a few bullets in the chest they should realize they're getting shot.

Rockstar's done a great job with the GTA franchise and games like Manhunt. They didn't do a good job with Red Dead Revolver. It feels like a game that they pushed out the door long before it was ready.

I got this game basically because of the company that made it: Rockstar Games. I loved the free form gameplay and non-linear storyline of the Grand Theft Auto series so I was hoping RDR would be similar. The graphics and visual style of the game are very cool, but I grew tired of the game at about Chapter 4 or 5. It just got repetitive and boring. So when I died I opted for the "No" when it asks if you want to continue and went to do something else. If you like walking around a set path and shooting stream after stream of bad guys, you will like this game. If you wanted a wild west GTA style game (like I did) look elsewhere.

best game ever
